"It's easy to pick things apart in retrospect," he starts, after a bit of a sigh. "Things don't always go to plan. We got what we needed to get done. We did the best we could with what we had to us."

Could they have prepared better? Yeah, maybe. But he's been locked in a cage for a month, feelings his muscles rot, and he sips the beer with a quiet sigh.

He does it anyway, despite often telling himself and others not to. It's hard to avoid. But they really need to move on as best as they can. He takes a sip of his drink, and considers things. "We accomplished what we sought to do, anyway... but we should have gone back for you sooner." Though they'd had no idea of his status for a while there, if he'd even still lived.
