OPEN: Cloudreach Event

WHO: Anyone at Skyhold
WHAT: Cloudreach showers bring weird shit.
WHEN: Cloudreach 15 onward
WHERE: Skyhold
NOTES: For information about the illness, its effects, and its cure, please make sure to also read the OOC Post.

This high in the mountains, snowstorms are to be expected. But this one is large and lingering, hanging over the valley and the fortress for days. In Skyhold, with its eternal spring, the snow becomes rain before it hits the ground, leaving inhabitants and visitors to wade through puddles and mud in the courtyards. In the valley, snow and ice accumulate under cloud cover—and worse, when the clouds finally thin, a whole winter's accumulation of snow begins to melt in the sunlight.

Within a day, the ground is sodden and mucky enough to give the survivors of the Fallow Mire (or Ferelden in general) unpleasant flashbacks, and those who live in tents are issued additional hastily-constructed wooden pallets to raise their floors above the mud. It is worse outside the fortress: streams and rivers have overflowed their banks, rapids run twice as fast as normal, and flash flooding has made even road travel treacherous.

On Cloudreach 17 a mudslide buries the pass into Skyhold from the west, and on the 19th a sheet of snow loosened from a mountainside collapses into the shadowed passage from the east. An Inquisition supply caravan is caught in the latter, scattering wagons and goods across the hillside and leaving a dozen people and horses in need of rescue and medical care.

Healers may find themselves stretched thin, as in addition to the usual rash of blisters and sniffles that come from days of rain and flooding, an illness begins to sweep through Skyhold's ranks from around the 16th onward. It's marked first by climbing fever, then by flashes at the edges of vision—green light and jagged formations that aren't there, beings of light and shadow gathering around people or clustering in corners—and distant voices, coherent for brief moments if you're quiet and still and not trying too hard to listen.

He's all too familiar with how noisy the spirits are, a number of them muttering behind him - they had been louder but it seemed when he was near others they died off a bit.

"Drown them out. So you're going to go drink?" He raises a brow at that, more so when Cyril comes over and wraps an arm around him. As much as he enjoys the attention he knows what the elf is trying to do though - nice try.

"You guys are in no condition to be walking around as you are." He raises a brow at how both Korrin and Cyril seem to be struggling to stay on their feet and leaning slightly. "I can't on good judgement let you go." There's a long moment as he just looks at them, but eventually he sighs, shoulders slouching a bit.

"I'll help you where you need to go, and back if there isn't someone who can watch you in your own beds. You have to promise me you'll actually stay in bed then." Seriously it was not safe for them to be walking around, they've already found a number of people huddling in corners because they couldn't make it where ever they wanted to go.

Korrin starts to nod to what Cyril's saying, though that seems to be a bad idea as she winces, somewhat lightheaded. Instead, she takes note of the attention Sam's garnered, eyeing the spirits -minus Fortitude- with a wary gaze. If there's one thing she does not want to handle right now, it's more spirits.

But they've been caught, and Sam's option is likely the only way they'll be able to proceed from this point. She relaxes slightly, able to focus enough to respond. "...alright. It's just to my place, to get my stash. You know the stuff. Even a little will knock us right out and spare you from dealing with us for a while.

Can Fortitude get the others to be quiet, though? All that chatter's not helping."

Those who are seeing things - and should probably be in bed - will notice a form standing around Sam and following him around, or other figures gathering around where he's trying to rest.

Cyril grins widely when Sam agrees to help them. He chuckles a bit at Korrin's insistence that Fortitude help them out a bit. He focuses on Sam for right now and then leans up to kiss him a bit on the cheek.

He likely wouldn't have done that if he was in his right mind. "You're the best," he tells Sam. "Come on, lets go to your place before someone else not as great as Sam tries to stop us."

Korrin was not having a good time with the spirits it seemed. Well no one was, but those not used to dealing with them certainly so. They got a little annoying, but it was no worse than it had been in the Fallow Mire really. He feels bad for his friend but he cannot help but smile just a bit at the request.

"Sure, Korrin. I'll try-" The words fall away when he feels Cyril tug at him a bit, which has him leaning down to see what he wanted, only to have his eyes widen slightly at the kiss being planted on his cheek. Being touched was a rather normal thing when around Cyril, but at the most it was usually a hug. He can feel his cheeks growing hotter - not just from his own fever - from that, and being called the 'best'

There's a moment when he just stares down at Cyril, eventually giving a sigh and then looking back to Korrin. "I can't promise it'll be able to keep them all quiet, but Fortitude will try. Right?" The question is asked as he looks over his shoulder, finding Fortitude and watching as the spirit just gives a nod of its head.

"Do you need a hand getting there?" he asks, turning back to Korrin and raising his brows at the fact she wasn't standing quite straight.

The cheek kiss prompts a brief smirk from Korrin, who might have given in to more amusement at Sam's reaction if she had the energy. As it is, she relaxes a bit at that promise to at least try, casting a grateful look to his spirit companion. And then she reluctantly nods, hating to admit it but it's easier to do so with a friend than just a healer. "I might. If I start wobbling just steady me. I'd hate to tip over and all on anyone."

"We can all just sort of lean on each other when needed then?" Cyril suggests, still grinning over how red Sam was. "Which way to your room?"

Seeing Korrin smirk and Cyril grin certainly doesn't help with his blushing, but considering previous conversations he's just going to chalk it up another one of Cyril's attempts to do just that. "We'll take it slow so that you have less of a chance to do that, Korrin."

Sam takes a couple moments then to make sure the two of them were steady enough - and also with a blanket to help stave off the mild chill in the air. "Yeah, which way is your room?" He doesn't recall ever asking or finding that out.

"A mobile leaning pile? So dignified, that." Not that Korrin gives a nug's ass about dignity right now, they're way beyond that point. It takes a moment for her to respond to the questions, as she glances around and frowns, finally pointing. "...that way. Ugh, fucking fever. It's messing with my internal compass."

Cyril nods. "I know what you mean," he says as they start off towards her room. "When I first came down with it..." A pause for him to gather his thoughts. "I'm surprised I didn't end up walking off the ramparts I was so mixed around."

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-04-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"You two are filling me with such confidence right now," he sighs, though he cannot help but smile slightly as well - hearing about almost walking off the ramparts is kind of serious. Sam makes sure that he isn't moving too fast, keeping between the both of them and watching for if they start to wobble. "I thought you didn't have any more of that stuff, Korrin."
gatheringstorm: (so drunk)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-04-28 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"The ramparts? Great, now I'm going to worry about doing that. Maybe I'll just have to borrow Lux and have him snap at me whenever I misstep. If he can even be bribed to go out in this, that is." Korrin does her best to keep pace, as she usually does for everyone not her kind. It's easier to slip back into old habits, though, so she has to concentrate to do this right now. "Just got some in, from Lena. It's not a lot, so I was just going to save it for a really bad day. I think this counts."
samahl: (Default)

[personal profile] samahl 2016-04-28 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is definitely a bad day," Cyril agrees. "And I guess that's a sign we should be grateful you want to share with us, if there isn't much of it."

Occasionally, he puts a hand out to steady himself against Sam, but otherwise he seems to be handling this whole 'walking' thing well enough.

"Honestly Korrin if you're that bad you should be staying in bed. Or at the very least going no where near the ramparts." He was really did not want to hear about someone falling off a wall or anything, less so people he knew. "Well with how you two are you shouldn't need a whole lot, and I'm certainly not having any." It would be rather bad that one of the healers up and drank themselves into a drunk coma, not to mention he was keeping an eye on the two of them.

Noticing just how much Cyril was using him to steady himself, Sam reaches out to place a hand on the elf's back. "You doing alright so far Korrin?" She looked like she was having to think more about things than normal, but she hadn't lurched forward or anything yet.
gatheringstorm: (um....)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-04-29 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"You have as much as you need, Cyril. And I wouldn't go to the ramparts on purpose." But in her mind-fogged state, seeking to find that one area that will mystically be free of spirits and demons to overhear? Yeah, it could happen. "Besides, that's the whole point of this, to find something to keep me in bed. Knocking me out is the only way, even with Fortitude's help."

She nods respectfully to Sam's spirit helper, though nearly stumbles as a result. Remember, mobile leaning platform. "You tell me, Sam. As long as I'm not knocking you or Cyril over, I hope that means I'm doing alright. But now comes the tricky part." Stairs.
samahl: (experienced)

[personal profile] samahl 2016-05-13 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I think you're doing fine," Cyril says, because honestly she's managing well enough. It was a stumble when she nodded to the spirit, not a fall. But then there are stairs and they look so ominous.

"Though it might have been even better if you could move your room to the ground floor."
el_tybs: Evan Antin (Default)

[personal profile] el_tybs 2016-05-13 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Sam leans a bit when Korrin uses them to stop from stumbling, reaching a hand out to help right her out. Doing a lot better than he thought they would be. And then there were stairs - well wasn't this going to be fun.

"Just one step at a time, right?" They wouldn't be too much of an issue for him, but then again he was doing a lot better than Korrin or Cyril.
gatheringstorm: (despair)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-05-13 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but Araceli would hate not being able to climb up inside." Usually that's more important but Korrin honestly does look a bit regretful right now. If they'd stayed somewhere that didn't take stairs to reach, this would be so much easier.

"...right. Let's do this." Walking up the stairs feels like a monumental task, and a very draining one. After stumbling and wobbling her way up -and there was a near-miss where she almost pulled them all down- Korrin plops down at the top of the stairs, attempting to regain her breath. "Just gimme a minute...."
samahl: (sneaking)

[personal profile] samahl 2016-05-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Cyril moves to her other side to help support her. They make it a bit, but he's honestly a little grateful that she pauses, because he needs sometime to rest as well.

"You both holding up okay?" he asks them both, frowning a bit.

Well that had been quite the trip. By they get to the top, Sam is a bit breathless himself, mostly from worrying about either Cyril or Korrin going over the side and falling. It almost happens a few times, so a break at the top is well welcomed.

"Yeah, just fine." The drink better be worth it. After a few moments he sighs, putting his hands on his hips. "Are there any more stairs?"
