Open | Building Plot

WHO: The Inquisition
WHAT: Building!
WHEN: 28th of Cloudreach, through the first week of Bloomingtide
WHERE: The river valley below Skyhold
NOTES: See here for details.

Welcome to the Great Building Project of 9:42, Dragon! So you've come to help construct some living structures and barracks? Excellent, there are several areas in which everyone's help is needed.

Clearing

The Mage Council themselves have dedicated themselves to clearing out the valley, and flattening it as well, so buildings can be constructed. They'll need all the magical help they can get, honestly, and even that will include people to help clear away the wood to be used for building, as well as the stone and other materials. It will be a lot of heavy lifting, carrying, or being able to drive a cart.

Building

Of course there is the building. Holding up walls, hammer and nails, thatch on the roofs, cutting out awkward window where necessary. Putting together fireplaces and firepits. The deft of hand and light of feet are the ones who can climb the roofs, move around without any problems to haul up sod and other things to plug the holes on the roof to make for a snug small hut, or a long and clean barrack hall.

Healing

And of course, there are accidents. Someone accidentally hammers their own hand, falls off a roof, gets a splinter in their finger. The healers themselves are going to need fresh water and herbs brought in, as well as food brought to keep them going.

Fetching/Carrying

Messages need to be brought back and forth between the builders. Water needs to be brought to the thirsty, as well as food. There are a million little things that need to be done to complete this great endeavor, so feel free to help out whatever little way you feel you can.

Katniss

Katniss is everywhere.

There's not a place you won't see the slender young woman, dark hair pulled back in a braid that is coming out in wisps. Dirt smudges her face and hands, but there's a faint smile on her face and no matter what she's doing, she's humming softly. At her heel is the wolf pup, who trots along beside her faithfully, and stands guard while Katniss is up atop a roof, hammering.

She's carrying water to give to people who are building, as well as food. Lifting bundles of stick and rock out of the way, or walking with a builder, murmuring softly over the plans.

Need to talk to her? Just snag her. She'll be glad to stop and talk to anyone who is helping out here.

"I think what is most heartening is not only how much work is being done- but that the builders are not flinching away from displays of magic." It builds a bridge between the two- builds confidence in the mages. A comfort that has not been lacking entirely, but has been strained. "If we continue at this pace the barracks by the Hold and the village here will be finished in half the time."

Korrin nods, smiling at both notions. "It's better than I would have thought, on both fronts. There have been some stares, but no real hostility. Maybe it's a sign that what I hope for is true; that with exposure, at least some people will come to see that mages aren't the boogey-men the Chantry paints us out to be." Granted, she's not expecting civilians to react well to fireballs, but utilizing magic to create a walkway? That benefits everyone.

"It is far better than we might have been received a few months ago." There'd have been hostility, possibly some thrown rocks. But now? This is exactly what she'd thought would come to pass. Support. Appreciation. And they will think of the work done by mages to give them a home. "Depending on how well this goes? We might be able to petition to assist in the renovations of the hold proper."

"A few months ago...ugh, don't remind me." Anders surfacing brought all her fears about people turning on mages to light, and it was a long time before she could begin to relax about that.

That prompts a nod of encouragement, as Korrin rests her hands on her hips. "I hope so, there are still plenty of areas that need it. You'd think at some point that we'd run out of things to repair, but not anytime soon, apparently." Not that she's really complaining, it gives her something to do when not working at Knight-Enchanter drills or Rift Mage training.

"Building and remodeling takes resources, money, and favorable weather. Carting what we need up the mountain will be difficult enough- I have no idea how to even begin to make any of the repairs to the stone of the Keep." That is best left to the dwarves that know stone best. "But we are making progress. By next winter we should have enough to prevent another rash of illness."
gatheringstorm: (sadface)

"Next winter...it's weird to think that long ahead, when we're dealing with that could tear Thedas apart. But life doesn't stop even for tears in the Veil, does it?" It's also weird to think about having settled in any one place for that long, if one could call using it as a home base between missions 'settled'. "Speaking of illness...sorry I was such a monstrous pest during all that. I'd like to think I'm not that awful a patient, usually, but...the Veil stuff on top of it was too much."

"...I have not truly been able to think that far ahead since the murders at the Spire. It seemed too miserable a thing, to dare to look forward to a time when things might be better. I never would have imagined this." Where they are now, what they can do. What they are doing. "I have had worse. I, myself, have been worse Renot. You are forgiven but do not allow it to happen again, yes?"
gatheringstorm: (horizon)

After a momentary sheepish expression, Korrin promptly salutes. "Yes, madame. You have my word." If she has any coherency or willpower, she'll hold to that. Any sickness which would compromise either will hopefully be rare enough that she doesn't have to worry about encountering it again. "I never bothered to think that far ahead before; another road, another job. There's not much planning to be done, in that case. But I've already put down some roots, so it doesn't sound as weird as it did before."

"I will hold you to it. Likewise...I give you mine to rest more." Not even 'when ill' just- more. She'd been running herself ragged, continued to do so even now, but she cannot ask of someone what she is unwilling to do herself. There is much work to be done but for the first time in a long, long while...she feels she is somewhere she can safely relax. With people she can trust. "It feels strange, calling this place home. But it feels just as right."
gatheringstorm: (relieved)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-05-16 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good." Glad that Adelaide doesn't place limits on that, Korrin smiles. Because she absolutely will take notice and encourage rest when there's not a crisis situation at hand. When there is, though, she won't be hypocritical about it since the Vashoth woman will be the same way. "It does, doesn't it? Never thought I'd say that about anywhere in the South, especially, but there you go. There are worse fates than having a decent home base, surrounded by people that more or less accept you for what and who you are."
fleurdesel: center, smirk, smile, sarcastic (And I'm still right.)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2016-05-17 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I think...Even with everything that has happened, even with everything that is to come? I feel more worthwhile here than I did in the Spire." Something she'd never admit to her students. "Some facilities could be better and I would like to have a proper office instead of making use of a table in the library but what we are doing, what we are building, the people I have met? It never would have happened without the war. I never would have met you- and that would be a shame."
gatheringstorm: (soft smile)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-05-17 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, Adelaide. Korrin steps in closer and slips an arm around her shoulders, drawing her in for a gentle squeeze. She can't help but think back to how alone she felt after that Conclave explosion, a far cry from her state now. The rage is still there, but she has good people to help her temper it. That she returns the favor any way she can goes without saying. "I'll forgo the usual smartass comment just once and agree wholeheartedly on that. Not meeting you, or the other people I've come to care about while wading through this shitstorm? I don't want to think about it. Good things can sometimes come of the worst moments, it just takes us a while to get there."
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk (Ignore my smugness)

When they'd met, months ago- Adelaide would have locked up. Flinched away, remained tense and anxious for the brush of contact she had not initiated. But now? She leans into Korrin easily, without fear or reservation. Now more than ever she knows where and when she is safe and whom she might trust. Korrin has ever been on the top of both lists. "I do not expect things to remain quite so good- but I know whatever it is that comes? We will get through it."
