It had been a surprise when he heard that Christine's birthday was today and he hadn't known about it. Well, he supposed it wasn't that surprising considering his own would have gone without notice if it weren't for a certain group of templars. Regardless, Sam knew about it now, which meant he needed to do something for it.
Christine had made him a pie for when his name day had come and gone, so it seemed only fitting that Sam would try his hand at making something for her - a cake. Even if his forte was not in baking/cooking he knew enough to at least know his way around the kitchen and to follow a recipe. He didn't know what kind of cake Christine actually liked, but something with fruit and lots of cream sounded like the standard for Orlesian desserts.
"Let's see... flour, eggs, water, sugar-"
[OoC: Feel free to do your own thing as well. Party hard.]

A bit in his own zone, concentrating on his work, he doesn't expect anyone to be coming up to him, and as such he jumps slightly, knocking a bit of the flour out of the bowl and onto his hands. "Oh-! Christine... ah. Just... baking a cake."
no subject
"Indeed? This doesn't seem like you. Unless you wish to follow in my footsteps," she teases.
no subject
"What? Learning something new isn't me?" He smiles lightly, patting some of the flour off.

"What sort of cake are you making?" Or trying to make, though she obviously refrains from wording it like that.
no subject
"Ah... a yellow cake with strawberries and cream?" Hey, he just started okay? So far it's only the dry ingredients.
no subject
"That sounds wonderful, Sam. Would you like any help, or do you wish to make it on your own?"
no subject
"I was going to make it on my own, but I suppose it would only be fair if you had the option to help since I helped make mine." Course that was a pie not a cake, but same difference right?

He's glad he picked something that Christine liked. "Well hopefully I make that idea into an actual cake, huh?"
no subject
"You will. Together, we shall make something good, I think. Now, let us see what we still need..." She hums to herself as she looks over what he's done so far, nodding her approval. "Yes, now put that in."

"Did you do anything for yourself today?"
no subject
"I just did some research today. Nothing special. I wouldn't even know where to start."
no subject
"Wouldn't know where to start in doing something for yourself?" He at least had requested to take the day off for his to at least sleep in. Literally the only thing he was really going to do for his birthday until his crazy Templar buddies made everyone aware.

As she speaks, she consults the recipe and brings the dry ingredients bowl over towards herself, picking up a spoon.
"I like to focus on work," she says. "I enjoy accomplishing things."

Mixing up the wet ingredients, Sam looks over to see what Christine is doing with the other bowl so that he knew what to do the next time he decided to make a cake.
"So long as you like it, but trying something different is fun from time to time."
no subject
"I suppose so. Sometimes I feel like I've forgotten what 'fun' is like."
no subject
"Alright, just hold that bowl while I pour everything together." Making a cake wasn't that terribly hard, but it was certainly time consuming.
[OoC: We can call it wrapped here if you want]
