There's Always Room To Learn More

WHO: Samouel Gareth and Anyone
WHAT: Sam is taking time to learn about his magic and certain items. Otherwise enjoying not being in the desert.
WHEN: After the Western Approach, throughout Justinian

NOTES: Shenanigans

The Western Approach had been quite the trip; blistering sun, hot sand, dragons, demons... a trip to the Fade. Enough that Sam needed some time to recuperate - which only lasted for like a day before he was right back into the swing of things.

[Healing Tents]
There were still many injured after the mission, or sick after the mission, so of course Sam spends a decent amount of time at the tents to help get everyone on their feet. Thankfully it is not like when that illness had hit Skyhold so there are chances to actually breathe and rest.

[Armory]
Much like after the Fallow Mire, there were many things to deal with once the troops were back from the Western Approach. There were new materials to work into new equipment, and armor and weapons needed mending - the enemies and rough conditions had certainly worn their gear down.

When he has free time, Sam can still be found in the forge, mostly to look over a new sword hilt he's acquired from the ruins. It is a strange sword considering it doesn't have a blade, in the sense that it had been made without one in the first place.

[Training Ring]
After nearly losing an eye - not really but it had clipped a bit of hair off, which lead to him getting the rest of it cut a bit shorter to match - Sam has figured what that strange hilt was. Apparently he had found a magical sword, or rather greatsword judging by the size of it. Curious by his new finding he is often at the training ring when he isn't busy in the forge or at the tents.

[Stables]
At times the mage can be found in the stables, sitting across from a particular purple "moose". When he isn't sketching it, he is often walking the Hart around or taking it for a ride outside the gates - with permission of course.

[Kittens X X]
Sam is now a new owner of two kittens. Most of the time he keeps them up in the loft while he's relaxing, but it isn't fair to keep them cooped up. Every once in a while he does take them out either the two of them chasing after his on the ground or each perched on a shoulder or tucked away in an arm.

[Wildcard]
Anything and everything you might possibly think of, go for it.

_{[ Kirk gave Sam a look, clearly warring between believing him and
thinking all of Thedas mad. Which to be fair was something he struggled
with on the daily, it felt like. He turned back to the creature and stepped
closer, a look of sympathy coming over his eyes. ]}

Does it... Does it eat anything? Like a treat or something?

[Just as mad as some of the things you've told him, Kirk.

The creature was already at the edge of the pen, leaning its head out curiously at the two of them. At least it was curious of Kirk. It recognized Sam well enough and always seemed eager for the spirit healer's attention.

Once Kirk has gotten close enough the mage walks up beside him and reaches out a hand to touch the muzzle. Still leathery as always.]

Doesn't need to eat. Even if it could I don't see how it would be able to with the sword fused into the bone as it is. It doesn't need sleep either.

_{[ Okay, fine, fair point Sam.

Seeing the sword impaled through it made Kirk wine, though Sam assured him the creature was not in pain. Still, it made him want to take the rusty thing out. Could it feel phantom pains? Remember what being pierced felt like? He looks to Sam when the mage reaches out to touch and Kirk followed his lead, surprised at the leathery feel. But if it had mummified, that would make sense. ]}

I guess he can't be let out in the paddocks with the other horses, can he?

_{[ Not with that rusty sword for a horn, to say the least. ]}

It... the other animals don't quite like it near very much. I'm sure they know it's around, but having it close freaks them out.

[It freaked people out so it wasn't all that surprising.]

Just be careful of the sword. It's rusted, but still rather sharp. Not the kind of thing you wanna be cut by.

_{[ Animals were said to have a sort of sixth sense. And while the creature didn't smell entirely of rot, an animal with a much sharper sense of smell might think differently. But that just made him a little sadder for the poor creature. It hadn't done anything but fall on a sword. ]}

Yeah, and I'm guessing you guys don't have tetanus shots here yet.

_{[ His fingers rubbed along the unicorn's jaw slowly. ]}

I wish I knew how to make you feel better, boy.

[He's pretty sure the horse didn't just fall on a sword.]

Tetanus shots?

[Seeing Kirk touching the possessed horse, Sam gives a small smile then sighing lightly.]

He's just lonely. Most people go running off when they see him.

_{[ It makes him feel better to think that it was an accident rather than someone ramming a sword through the horse's skull. Let him have this one. ]}

A vaccine - medicine to ward off certain illnesses.

_{[ He looked to Sam as his fingers continued to brush across the leathery skin. ]}

Well, that's not very nice is it? You're a gentle thing, aren't you? Does he have a name?

[He's not saying anything.]

I suppose a land that doesn't have magic has ways of fending off illnesses.

[Sam chuckles lightly.]

You're saying you wouldn't have ran off if you came upon him on your own?

He's pretty well behaved right now, but he gave us a hell of a time in the Mire. And then he wouldn't leave me alone.

[Much like Bruce's dracolisk now that he thinks about it.]

We call him a Bog Unicorn. Though most people nicknamed him Boggy.

You would fend off more illnesses here if you followed my land's way of preventing diseases in the first place. Magic is certainly helpful, but prevention is the best medicine.

_{[ He pursed his lips, because he couldn't say he wouldn't have. The creature was rather terrifying, sadly - it wasn't the creature's fault after all. He laughed, though, at the thought of the creature gravitating towards Sam. ]}

Boggy, huh? A bit literal, but I guess if that's what you're used to now....

Think a halter could be fashioned for him? So he can be walked. It's sad keeping him pinned up here all the time, don't you think?

Most illnesses that we deal with tend to be magical. Not much to can do against them except use magic or don't come in contact with it.

[Not disagreeing with you Kirk, perhaps that would help with some sicknesses like a cold, but non-magical ways don't hold up well against magic.]

Think can be, but we're not supposed to let him out of the pen. Scares too many folks and last thing we need is the refugees complaining to the advisors.

What do you mean "they tend to be magical"?

_{[ He raises his brow, curious about this. ]}

Oh... that does make a kind of sense. But what if we just walked him a bit wider area around the stables? Or where others might not see? I feel bad if he's just penned up all the time.

Well you experienced that one illness - the one where you started to see the spirits?

[They all weren't like that, but it was a good example. And he's pretty sure the Blight counts as well.]

You'd probably be able to get permission to walk him around in this spot right here. Getting him closer to the stables freaks out the animals. Master Dennet threw a tantrum that it was freaking out his horses.

Oh. That one. Was it magical? I thought it was something in the water - which made sense since we all had access to it and it was wide spread.

_{[ Well, whatever, it was gone now, but he really hoped not to repeat it again - ever. ]}

Oh, yeah, I can see why that would be a problem... Well, hopefully we can find a spot for you to really stretch your legs, huh boy?

_{[ He went back to the bog unicorn and smiled, stroking its jaw and under its chin, humming softly to it. ]}

Well yes, it was something in the water, which happened to be magical.

[Nothing normal would've let people see dreams and spirits.]

You've taken quite the liking to him...

[Course Jim at looked creeped out at first, but now he was particular cooing over it.]

_{[ He's not so sure about that, or maybe he is. It still doesn't sit well for him, but there's not a point in arguing about it now. ]}

Seems like we're each one of a kind here, far from home, and just looking for some friends. And we both liked you more or less instantly.

_{[ He turned his smile on Sam with a soft laugh. ]}

[He says, pointing at Kirk - don't be so cute!]

Didn't try chewing on my hair when we first met. I'd say our first meeting went a lot better.

[Less bog and corpses too.]

_{[ He laughed, hearing the scolding in his tone, playful as it was. He moved back from Boggy and back towards Sam, leaning up to brush their cheeks together briefly. ]}

No, I chewed on something else - though that came later.

[He did expect Kirk to say something, but the comment still catches him off-guard a bit, enough that Sam gives a cough in surprise and puts a hand up to his mouth to help cover up the tiniest bit of red tinging there.]

Oh? You did?

[It was hard not to encourage Kirk, not when it was practically just them, and very few people came to this spot.]

_{[ It's so easy with Sam, and he likes it. That cute little blush, the smile it brings. Definitely worth it. ]}

Oh yes. I think it was right around... here.

_{[ His hand rose up and touched Sam's chest, just where he knew his nipple was, smirking at him. ]}

[Even though he can feel where Kirk is referring to he still looks down at the hand on his chest. Then up at the smirk on Kirk's face - wasn't he so smug?]

Huh... was it?

[Frowning lightly in thought, Sam reaches down and grabs the other man's wrist and draws his hand up towards his mouth.]

Because I was pretty sure it was about here.

[Pressing Kirk's finger tips to his lips, Sam slowly starts to smirk himself.]

_{[ He was terribly smug, Sam. It's one of his faults. But he does enjoy
what you are doing with his hand, smiling as he turns his hand to brush his
index finger around the shape of his lips. ]}

Oh, maybe it was. Maybe you should remind me, though. The details are a little fuzzy.

_{[ They weren't - he remembered that night quite well despite the fever
- but they were playing a game, after all. ]}

[He doesn't buy it for a second, but he's completely fine playing this game. Especially since there wasn't anyone watching. Except for a creepy dead horse, but still.]

Hm. Well I'm pretty sure there was a distinct lack of clothes... but you leaned in real close and-

[Rather than just describe it, Sam lightly pulls Kirk's arms down and back to pull the Rifter closer, allowing him to slant his lips against his. Just slightly though, enough to lightly press lips but not quite a kiss.]

Seem about right?

_{[ Boggy was not creepy... okay, he was totally creepy, but once you
got used to it it wasn't bad at all.}

_{He didn't fight when the other pulled him closer, smiling and lifting
his head up to meet his mouth, pouting some when it didn't turn into the
full kiss he had been expecting. Such a tease, Sam. ]}

Feels right. But that wasn't all there was, if I recall.

[You only have yourself to blame, Kirk. He's a quick learner, and he learned from the best, right?]

That wasn't? Are you sure? You did say the details were a little fuzzy.

_{[ If you're expecting him to feel something like contrition over that, you'll be sorely disappointed Sam. ]}

I think it went something like this...

_{[ He reached up and cupped the back of Sam's head, bringing him and down, pressing their lips together harder, sucking gently at his lower lip. ]}
