There's Always Room To Learn More

WHO: Samouel Gareth and Anyone
WHAT: Sam is taking time to learn about his magic and certain items. Otherwise enjoying not being in the desert.
WHEN: After the Western Approach, throughout Justinian
WHERE: Skyhold, Other locations depending on posts
NOTES: Shenanigans

The Western Approach had been quite the trip; blistering sun, hot sand, dragons, demons... a trip to the Fade. Enough that Sam needed some time to recuperate - which only lasted for like a day before he was right back into the swing of things.

[Healing Tents]
There were still many injured after the mission, or sick after the mission, so of course Sam spends a decent amount of time at the tents to help get everyone on their feet. Thankfully it is not like when that illness had hit Skyhold so there are chances to actually breathe and rest.

[Armory]
Much like after the Fallow Mire, there were many things to deal with once the troops were back from the Western Approach. There were new materials to work into new equipment, and armor and weapons needed mending - the enemies and rough conditions had certainly worn their gear down.

When he has free time, Sam can still be found in the forge, mostly to look over a new sword hilt he's acquired from the ruins. It is a strange sword considering it doesn't have a blade, in the sense that it had been made without one in the first place.

[Training Ring]
After nearly losing an eye - not really but it had clipped a bit of hair off, which lead to him getting the rest of it cut a bit shorter to match - Sam has figured what that strange hilt was. Apparently he had found a magical sword, or rather greatsword judging by the size of it. Curious by his new finding he is often at the training ring when he isn't busy in the forge or at the tents.

[Stables]

At times the mage can be found in the stables, sitting across from a particular purple "moose". When he isn't sketching it, he is often walking the Hart around or taking it for a ride outside the gates - with permission of course.

[Kittens X X]
Sam is now a new owner of two kittens. Most of the time he keeps them up in the loft while he's relaxing, but it isn't fair to keep them cooped up. Every once in a while he does take them out either the two of them chasing after his on the ground or each perched on a shoulder or tucked away in an arm.

[Wildcard]
Anything and everything you might possibly think of, go for it.

"I'm familiar with the science he goes on about sometimes," Hermione replies, chuckling a little. "He doesn't seem to understand how I can be so logical and still believe in magic without applying some sort of scientific explanation for it, but I suppose that's just a difference in the way we were raised. After all, there's nothing to imply that magic isn't just another kind of science, just one that we haven't figured out how to properly explain yet."

Sam's question gives her pause. "Some of the things he's told me about his Earth's history don't quite match up with mine." At least, she doesn't want them to; they might well be happening behind the scenes and she simply hasn't heard of it yet, given her involvement in the magical world. "There's a theory about there being an infinite number of realities, all similar to one another but with just enough variations that their stories pan out differently. And along with the possibility of multiple timelines... well, I'm sure Kirk would be able to explain it much better than I would, given his more scientific bent."

"There are enough anomalies or other things with little or no 'logical' explanation that I'm sure a man like Kirk is probably feeling just the tiniest bit lost more often than not." Still, he's been taking much of this in stride, so Hermione can only smile slightly. "Well, we were raised in two very different parts of the same world, and during two very different times, but it's always nice to have someone around who actually recognizes the name of the country I'm from."

Her smile changes in quality just a bit at Sam's question, and she offers him a small shrug. "He seemed willing enough to discuss it with me, though I imagine he felt he had to dumb it down a bit. Which I can appreciate well enough, in this instance, since I honestly couldn't be able to tell you much about space travel, never mind inter-dimensional travel. If I were you, I'd just let him know you'll set one of your attack kittens on him if he starts using too many words you don't understand."

"It's still a very harrowing threat," Hermione insists, trying for all the world to look serious when she's talking about a pair of tiny kittens ganging up on a big man like Kirk. After that, though, she tries not to wrinkle her nose at the mention of motorcycles. "Dangerous things, motorbikes. I'd only get on one if it were a matter of life and death. Though I suppose they must be hard for you to imagine; you don't even have bicycles here, do you?"

"They're dangerous in the same way that magic is dangerous: that is, they're incredibly dangerous if one doesn't take all the necessary safety precautions before, during, and after a ride." Looking around, Hermione reveals, "Actually, a bicycle should be easy enough to make here. I'm not particularly handy with that sort of thing, but it's a simple enough pedaling system."

"He does," Hermione agrees, though she sounds less wistful and more like a worried younger sister watching her brother go off and do something stupidly dangerous.

At Sam's question, Hermione pauses for a moment to think it over. "I suppose the simplest sort of bicycles can be made with little more than fashioned wood and iron. A bit of leather to use as a seat cover, I suppose, to make it more comfortable, and perhaps a small chain of sorts to work the pedals. Kirk would probably be able to throw such a thing together easily enough; he seems like the sort who would be good with his hands."

Hermione hadn't really considered that bicycles would be all that useful, but the more she thinks about it, the more likely it seems. Looking around as the people of Skyhold go about their business, she nods a bit and replies, "It would certainly help in getting from one part of Skyhold to another a little quicker, though some ramps would have to be smoothed out throughout the landscape. They can be hooked up to carts to carry lumber around for construction efforts when the mounts are otherwise occupied. It's not vital, but having at least one or two couldn't hurt."

From what Hermione's seen, there are so few things that exist in Thedas purely for recreational purposes that the fact that people might enjoy riding bikes never quite makes it in her mind. So she only shrugs, offering him a small smile and telling him, "Once people developed the wheel, there's hardly any limit to what can be done with it. But bicycles are probably the easiest things to make, yes. Other than skateboards or roller skates, I suppose, but I wouldn't be able to show anyone how to actually use those; they require more practice than I'd ever had the patience for, personally."

"Or I can sit off to the side with the kittens while I watch you and Kirk get to it, and only open my mouth if I think I know better than Kirk," Hermione replies, grinning a little. "Granted, that means I'll open my mouth quite a bit, but he's been able to take it in stride and not gloat too much if he proves me wrong."

But then, she's fairly certain Kirk knows more about how to build things than she does, other than to call out whenever something "doesn't look right".

[OOC- No worries, I'm only just catching up, too. And sure, we can leave it here if you'd like, unless you want to wrap it up some other way.]
