WHAT: Peter is trying to teach Gavin to read, and Gavin is getting distracted by literally everything, and everyone.
WHEN: A few times, as the lessons are semi-regular, in the days following the wake.

He was doing his best. He really was. But Gavin had the attention span of a goldfish, and trying to sit still for long periods focusing on something he found difficult was worse.

He'd never really figured out how to read. Every time he tried the runes would seem to move around on their own, or flip over, and it was extremely frustrating. Peter, however, was absolutely determined that Gavin should learn to read properly and stop defacing the community bulletin boards with his scribbled drawings.

They'd managed to scramble a few books together for the purpose, and some sheets of parchment, and Gavin was working on drawing a surprisingly well rendered butt as Peter was pulling out the next text to start with.

As soon as Gavin happened to see anyone wandering by, he called out and waved them over.

Peter could never groan in the midst of being introduced to family (it was family, right? That was what the clan thing meant?). Especially pretty family. Pretty family which makes him put down the book he'd been bringing over with slightly more force than needed before he returns the nod with a faint blush.

"G- well met, Ellana. And it's really the least I can do."

Not like his other talents of not killing rats were in high demand and all.

Gavin notes the blush and a sly grin crawls up his face.

"Don't be proud of me," He says easily, "It was all Peter's idea. He should get all the credit for it."

[serannas]

"Well, it's a very good idea," Ellana says, bobbing her head in a nod. "What are you working on right now?" She moves closer, trying to see what Gavin has down on parchment so far. And then her eyebrows lift and she giggles because that is definitely a butt.

"Is that anyone in particular, Gavin?" she asks teasingly.

[cameasarat]

Peter can only run a hand over his face, avoiding eye contact, as she sees what kind of progress they'd made so far. Or rather, the ode to asses Gavin had been working on while Peter had rambled on about phonetic compared to actual pronunciation of words.

"Maker, I hope not."

"I never kiss and tell," Gavin said with a grin, though of course, it was just a butt. They tended to be the same across racial and gender lines, and were fun to draw. Plus making Peter flustered was fun.

Ellana wrinkles her nose at him. "You're no fun," she replies, quickly taking his writing instrument of choice away from him to draw a smiley face on his page.

"There; that's me inspiring you to keep at it." Turning to Peter, she adds, "How long have you two been doing this? Have I interrupted the first meeting?"

[cameasarat]

"Not very long." No matter how it felt sometimes, but that was an inside thought. "We're a few ones in. But I'm open to suggestion for the next ones."

Sorry Gavin, totally talking about you in front of you. Members Gavin's clan had tried to teach him, Peter was sure, and a mage seemed like a logical one of their number. There must be some things he could avoid, at least. Other than 'make sure no one else can wander by ever,' which he'd already added to the list.

Gavin seemed completely used to people talking about him in front of him - to the point that he didn't really notice it was happening. He laughs at the smiley face and pushes the sheet away.

"Please don't suggest to him to gag me. I'm not sure our relationship is quite to that level, yet."

"I would never," Ellana replies, though she does get the joke he's making. "You would spend the whole time trying to feel the fabric with your tongue and it would distract you even more."

This task is already hard enough for Peter, isn't it? No need to give Gavin a prop too.

"Don't give up just yet. I know you can do better and I'd like to see it."
