[OPEN]

WHO: Gavin, Peter, and OPEN~
WHAT: Peter is trying to teach Gavin to read, and Gavin is getting distracted by literally everything, and everyone.
WHEN: A few times, as the lessons are semi-regular, in the days following the wake.
WHERE: in the weird little library in the basement
NOTES: Ridiculous hijinks

He was doing his best. He really was. But Gavin had the attention span of a goldfish, and trying to sit still for long periods focusing on something he found difficult was worse.

He'd never really figured out how to read. Every time he tried the runes would seem to move around on their own, or flip over, and it was extremely frustrating. Peter, however, was absolutely determined that Gavin should learn to read properly and stop defacing the community bulletin boards with his scribbled drawings.

They'd managed to scramble a few books together for the purpose, and some sheets of parchment, and Gavin was working on drawing a surprisingly well rendered butt as Peter was pulling out the next text to start with.

As soon as Gavin happened to see anyone wandering by, he called out and waved them over.

"Oh- thank you."

Reading lessons are officially derailed for the moment and it's going to be another minute before Peter notices that. Because, well. Food. Who didn't stop for freely offered, fresh cake? After weeks with the rebel mages, eating whatever it was the could find, Skyhold has been a welcome return to normalcy in the food area.

Gavin may have just discovered a powerful weapon in making the lessons stop.

"Nice to meet you, Korrin."

Korrin chuckles and shakes her head. "No, I just snagged them from the kitchen before Kas could get to them all this time. I've never been one for baking, anyway. What I make is edible, but not this nice."

She bites into one, glad she got them while they're still warm. "I'd wondered if anyone ever used this space. It's so out of the way and easily overlooked."

"With a rat problem," Peter provided helpfully through a small mouthful of crumbs. Manners were optional when cake was involved, surely. "Though the spiders have gone down, recently..."

Not thanks to him. He'd done the dusting, maybe the helpful ghosts of Skyhold had done the spiders.

"But it makes it perfect for reading when there's construction and fighting and...other things going on all around.'

Korrin shrugs, not especially fastidious when eating but not trying to leave a mess behind, either. The important thing is to enjoy them while they're fresh, right? Right.

"Well, it is on the way to the kitchen...and the wine closet. Not everyone wants to be social and hang out at the tavern, after all."

She usually did, but after the wake, she couldn't blame anyone who wanted to keep some distance for a while.

"Eh, rats and spiders don't bother me. Though I could ask around about placing traps, if you want. And I could have pretended, sure, but then I'd have to keep that up. No thanks. I'll admit to being lazy."

Peter's spine straightens a little as he rushes to reply.

"No, no traps. We're all fine. The library has...well, character. Yeah. It's good as is."

"Character? Well, I can't deny that."

Alright, no rat traps. Korrin doesn't press the issue, as she's not going to be the one spending much time down here. If they want it the way it is, that's up to them.

"No...but I can double back, if you're interested. I suppose we ought to have something to wash these down with, anyway. They might even have something better than the usual fare at the tavern.

Peter spends a moment shuffling some papers together then neatly closing them in a nearby book to keep the page. 'Wine' and 'lessons' did not go together well in his experience. Or, rather, they went together brilliantly, just usually other lessons than the ones assigned tended to be learned. But he didn't have enough discipline in him to turn down the chance of drinking with and elf and qunari in order to do work. He'd never even seen one of the latter before joining the Inquisition.

"Sounds like some exploration's in order."

That makes Korrin snort in amusement. "Smoke bombs? What do you expect to use those against, down here? I thought we agreed, no hunting the vermin." This is either going to end awesomely or horribly, isn't it? Which doesn't deter the Vashoth mage at all. She's in need of something silly and this seems as though it could fit the description.
