Her expression flattens, unfriendly, her bow mouth pulling into a moue of displeasure that doesn't suit her but does seem like a familiar sort of expression, the kind that Gwenaëlle is in the habit of making. Irrationally and unfairly, she immediately blames absent Gregoire for this insult, writing filth for money while she gets compared to the fucking Randy Dowager and he, presumably, rolls around in the proceeds of his appalling romances. 'Noble ladies', indeed.

Why is she only friends with terrible people who should have been drowned, it's a mystery.

"Then I don't need to say anything else to you on the subject," she says, flatly, "since you're so well-educated on it already."

"On the subject of smut? Oh, I believe I might be." He shot her a charming, squinty-eyed smile, one that had cracked more than one icy exterior. He didn't mean anything by it, of course, his tone light. Sport-flirting, as one might say. Just to see if he could get her to smile.

It is, unfortunately, very much the wrong approach if he wants a smile from her; what he gets is cold disinterest, her lips tightening for a moment before she looks away from him, back toward what had caught her attention below on the courtyard before his interruption.

"I daresay someone in the library can help you with that," she says, setting her paper back down on the stone to write against. "I would hate to keep you from it."

"The library here has pathetically little in that way, I checked," Raylan commented, as if she wasn't freezing him out and they were having a perfectly friendly chat. Her stiff upper lip was more funny than alarming, and she wasn't hitting him, so he assumed she wasn't irretrievably offended. "What are you observing, then?"

"I'm astonished to hear that Skyhold's library has better things to stock its shelves with than the sort of garbage men of your sort prefer," she says, bone-dry and without dignifying him by looking up from her work. "Truly."

Not by accident does she fail to answer his question.
