Stables
Kain heads into the stables toward the one where his dracolisk is currently waiting. Finding her off in the Western Approach had been no easy task, nor had winning her approval. But he’s managed to bring the creature back. She’s still a bit wild and stubborn, but he figures that actually means they’ll make a good pair. They've already started to bond... he doubts the dracolisk would have accompanied him back to Skyhold otherwise.
Today as he approaches to stroke her scaly neck, he catches the dracolisk’s eye. “Zephyr… that’s a good name for you. It’s about time you had one. Here. I brought you a treat...”
Outside Skyhold
Getting used to a new mount means he's got to spend plenty of time riding her. Kain takes off at a fast pace, getting a feel for how the dracolisk likes to move. He’s improved with his riding of four-legged creatures, looking confident as he rides around the surrounding area. Of course, there are some times when the dracolisk veers completely off paths… she’s got quite the mind of her own.
“Not this way!” Kain shouts in frustration, trying to bring them back to the nearest trail. Looks like he might be in for a bit of an exploration. He keeps his eyes out for signs of trouble, always wary of bears or other threats.
Tavern
Drowning his sorrows seems as good an idea as any. Many of his worst issues were shoved in his face in the Fade, and it’s all hitting him hard. He’d tried to ignore most of it as much as he could. Unfortunately, it’s getting to him.
So Kain takes a spot at the bar and orders a drink… well, two drinks. One for him, and a small one for his feathered friend. His parrot is with him, swearing cheerfully to anyone who approaches. Kain is so wrapped up in his thoughts that he doesn’t even try to silence the bird. He has a book on dragons with him, though even reading about his favorite creatures isn't doing much for him at the moment, so it's sitting there unopened.
Tower/Battlements
Up on one of his favorite high locations, Kain paces back and forth a little, before settling down. Then he takes out a map, which he starts looking over carefully. It’s a decent one, detailing both Ferelden and Orlais. He’s not sure if he really wants to leave, but he’s seriously thinking about it after the Fade. He’s too much of a danger. If he gets controlled again…
Well. It’s at least worth planning where he might go to if a need arises for him to spend some time away. He studies the map intently, occasionally pausing to just stare off into the distance.
Stables
Watching Kain with his dracolisk for a moment, Korrin leans against the doorway with a smile. "Found yourself a friend, I see. You have good taste, Kain." In mounts, at least, not clothing.

The dracolisk snorts in response, pawing at the ground with a front leg.

Tavern
"Welcome home, honey."
Being in Skyhold definitely improved her overall mood: no one looks at her knowing she's the last summoner and expecting her to pop out a baby with a certain ninja just to continue her bloodline, most of the people are strangersin a strane land like her, no one bothers her in the library to ask anything and even if she misses Cuore and her eidolon parents she hasn't been free like that in a long, long while... and it's with a wide grin that she sits in front of Kain, grabbing a stool and taking place at his table, blatantly ignoring his loud feathered companion.
"So, how has-" And she would try to throw in a jok or two, because things have always been somehow tense and formal between them and the summoner would love to... bond a little, perhaps (He still looks so young and this keeps reminding her that she shouldn't consider this dragoon the man she knows but- Leviathan's nostrils, they saved the world twice together in her world!), maybe talk about the great choice for the book but his expression tells Rydia that isn't not the case.
"Uhn... everything okay?"

Bastard squawks, shouting repeatedly about Andraste's perky tits!... Kain rolls his eyes, but offers the bird some nuts to go with the drink. That ought to keep him occupied. He sighs, then, looking at Rydia, then down once more, unable to meet her eyes for a moment. Though there is something slightly different about her, he can't quite place it.
"...I'm fine. It's fine. It was just... a more difficult trip than I'd expected."
Stables
"Have you gotten a ho--" Anders cuts off, looking at the thing. It's most definitely not a horse. "Have you contemplated the possibility that that might enjoy eating your arm?"
no subject
"Not this dracolisk. We've been... bonding. Believe it or not, I seem to get along better with them than horses." Which kind of... just figures when it comes to Kain's preferences.

Bonding with a dracolisk.

Though Zephyr starts pushing her head toward him, sniffing loudly. "...she's only looking for more treats." Yes, see, be assured of this, Anders.
no subject
"I'm trusting you here. Don't make me regret not tossing a barrier over you or yanking you back, please."
no subject
"You see? There's nothing to worry about, other than her becoming spoiled and fat. We've bonded enough by now that she's grown used to me."

stables
He had noticed the dracolisk in the stables before, wondering whom had brought her back as she did not look like the one Bruce had trailing him on the Western Approach. Today his question was answered, overhearing Kain with the creature, bestowing upon her a name.
"What does Zephyr mean in your language?" Kirk inquired of Kain, coming up to join him. "We have a similar word in my world - it relates to the wind."
no subject
"Much the same, it's to do with the wind... I thought it seemed fitting, considering she rides like the wind. It's always been my favorite element, too." He looks at Zephyr for a moment, then back to Kirk. "Have you seen much of the dracolisks yet? They're remarkable creatures..."
no subject
He shook his head to Kain's question. "I saw one hanging around a surgeon - Bruce - during our little jaunt into the dessert. But other than that one and this lady here? No, not much. I only just learned what a Hart was." He snorted as if at his own ignorance. "I agree they are quite remarkable. Though no offense to your lady, but the dragon out on the sands was the more impressive creature I saw with scales."
no subject
Kain watches, but decides there's no real danger, she's not on the verge of biting anyway. He nods. "Actually, it was Bruce's dracolisk that reminded me how interested I've been in having one, myself. I'd forgotten how impressive they were. And getting her from the wild was all the better..." He smirks a little. "Nothing could ever compare to a dragon. They're truly the most magnificent creatures to exist."
no subject
"You went and found her yourself?" he asked, looking at the creature. "Was she alone?" he inquired, not liking the idea of taking an animal from their herd and natural home, though she seemed pleasant enough with people. "I saw the one in the desert. It was kind of like one of the childhood fantasy stories we have in my world. I wish I had been able to see it a bit better, actually."

Outside
All bones and teeth and strange noises, these things. Whoever saw one of them and thought 'sure, I'll slap a saddle on it and ride it around' musta been outside their damn minds.

It really is starting to become a little trend by now, isn't it? Kain nods in greeting to Mal, slowing down Zephyr's pace. He's gotten a better hang of things after practicing on horses. Though there are subtle differences in the dracolisk.
"Your help still means a lot, even now... the experience with horses made it easy to adapt to her, as another four-legged mount. Besides, I didn't own the horse I was riding at the time... this dracolisk is all mine, however."
no subject
But.
If it works? it works. "You name it?"
Telling gender at a glance: Not something he knows how to do with this particular beastie.
no subject
"Her name's Zephyr. I figured she ought to have a name that has to do with the wind... she's certainly capable of running that fast. At the moment, though, I'm mostly helping her adapt to non-desert terrain."
no subject
More than enough for- well- everyone what's not crazy enough to try to kill 'em. "She's a mighty fine look'n girl, though. Seems to be pretty well settled.
