[ Kaisa isn't surprised he heard her walking over. She's not quiet in anything she does, and that includes clanking up behind him in her heavy armor. She accepts the wine, and in a show of her great and boundless respect for Herc, she only takes a sip of it, before returning it to him.

Then she sets her head right on top of his head.
]

How're you doing, ser?

( With a huff of amused laughter, Herc accepts the skin back and tips some back. It's good stuff - Orlesian, actually. It's a sign of his great and boundless respect for her that he didn't pass her a skin of the cheap stuff.

He's unperturbed by the contact, glancing her way. )

Not too bad. ( Easily said, but that doesn't make it any less a lie by omission, does it? ) You? Keeping out of trouble?

[ You're the best, Warden dad. Kaisa doesn't seem to catch on that anything could be amiss, and shrugs, lifting her head up in favor of sliding over to sit next to him. ]

I'm always keeping out of trouble.

[ That's a lie. ]

Hard to make too much trouble down here, anyway. It's so odd, isn't it? Better preserved than any ruins above ground. I wonder what it looked like when dwarves lived here.

( He just. Laughs. Kaisa, please.

Shaking his head a moment, Herc takes another swig of wine before setting it on the ground, letting it slowly run down his throat, savouring it. )

Amazing, probably. Alive. We're just seeing a piece of it, really.

I wonder...maybe some day, we'll figure out how to stop the darkspawn, and the dwarves will be able to rebuild. I don't think it'll ever be the same, though. Their birth rates being so low and all.

[ She sighs, tapping her fingers on her knees. ]

Do you think we'll ever really end it? The darkspawn, I mean. Even if we stop them from ever getting to the Old Gods, that doesn't stop them, it just keeps them down here.

Maybe without the darkspawn they'd be able to figure out the birth rate situation.

( He frowns, thoughtful. It's a nice idea, the what if. 'What if we could fix the world?' The scary thought is that it might just find a new, terrible way to get broken again, either when people forgot the cost, or when some new evil lurched into the scene.

But there has to be a way. No matter the cost, there always has to be a way. )

I don't know. I hope so. There's gotta be a way - find all the brood mothers and take 'em down, keep on hunting until you've found every single darkspawn so they can't try make more... I have no idea.
unbrokenoath: (Whoa)

[personal profile] unbrokenoath 2016-06-28 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
You're right about the Broodmothers. Don't know how we'd manage to take them all down, but the more, the better. But we'd also have to do something about making sure they don't get more.

[ That's touching on a subject closer to home. One that includes one of her deepest fears, a fate she'd die to avoid. She touches her boot, feeling the knife Anders had given her in it. ]

We could give the Warden women suicide pills or knives, talk to the Legion of the Dead, tell them to do the same. But--shit. That's some grim shit. Sorry.

( Excuse him, he's just going to take a long draw of his wine.

It'd be nice if he could pretend that, with his time almost up, this didn't matter to him. Didn't effect him.

That'd be a damn lie. He tips the bag back a little further. )

'S fine.

( It's not fine, but he's trying to think around a solution. )

It'd be easier to control since there isn't a Blight. But I think you're right. Even if we killed all the archdemons, that wouldn't really...stop the darkspawn from multiplying.

Maybe we're just some tiny little boat trying to plug the leaks that're popping up and ignoring that we're heading straight towards a waterfall.

[ She isn't usually the type to be so dour, but it's harder to be optimistic down here, so far from the sun and the light and anybody but them, the darkspawn, and old ruins. ]

But that really isn't our problem, I guess. It'll be centuries before we get to that point.
