1. Now-early part of the month
[It’s the first that Kain is finally stable enough to be awake for any long stretch of time. He’d really taken a beating out there… encouraged it even it some point, since the more hits he took meant the stronger his attacks would be. He's still getting used to his new powers, admittedly. It turns out that being a Reaver comes with quite a cost in the aftermath. He’s suffered some nasty chest wounds, broken ribs, a punctured lung, a bad shoulder wound, some burns… among other injuries. To make matters worse, infection had set in not too long after he’d arrived, complicating matters.]
[He groans, trying to move and finding that more than a little excruciating. Then he realizes someone is approaching.]
What is it?
2. Later on into the month
I’m just going out to get some fresh air.
[Is this an escape attempt? Or is he just doing as he claims and getting himself outside for a change? Who can say for sure? Regardless of anything, Kain is supremely unsteady as he hauls himself up and starts slowly but steadily making his way toward the exit of the tent. Now he's healed enough he can be a bad patient.]
[He's almost there… he’s gonna make it...]
Wildcard!
[Anything else going on in the healer tents? Coming to visit or to update him about petsitting? Have another reason to come bother him? Have at it!]

...I appreciate it... I'm not sure at this moment what else I need, though you're... [He pauses, grimacing as he struggles with his breathing, the pain still a bit sharp and awful if breathes too hard.] ...you're all too right about that assumption. But I should... be fine. Promise.

[ Kirk knew the feeling, and he was careful not to bring attention to it in any way. He knew he would not want his weakness pointed out to him, and in fact he had not when he had been abed like this. Worst. Patient. He only nods to the thanks, making sure Kain is comfortable without being over bearing before settling himself back. ]
Well it's not me you have to worry about - it's the healers. Doctors are ornery sort when their patients don't follow instruction. That seems true in every world.
[ His mouth twitched in an amused smile as he opened the book to flip through and find one of the more exciting stories. ]

All too true. The white mages.... what we call our healers... were always difficult to deal with. Much too strict about their orders... or when you didn't follow those orders... well. I've faced those consequences a few times. Usually there's a lecture involved.
[At least he has someone here who understands, he's glad that he's not the only one who can't deal well with long recovery times.]

[ They and Bones would have hours of talking points, it seems like. But who has time to be holed up in a medical bed when you have a universe or a world or a country to save? Adventure waits for no man. ]
There's always a lecture involved, even if you aren't awake to hear it.
[ He laughed softly and made a sound when he found a story he thought the other might appreciate. He coughed to signal he was ready to begin reading and set it on the tail of a large, monstrous dragon that lived between two mountains... ]

[But at this point, Kain settles in to listen, glad for the distraction. He's really needed that, really needed to have something to occupy his mind, even if he physically can't do anything much. Finally, he has it. Finally, he can escape for a while, leave this place and concentrate on the exciting dragon story. He listens intently, enjoying this tale from a far off world... it means it's nothing like any he'd have heard before back home.]

[ Kirk settles into the rhythm of reading, working his voice into a gentle rhythm. He glances to Kain now and then, as if to see if he has fallen asleep or needs anything, but for the most part he considers himself there as a comforting presence, someone Kain can look to to know he's not alone and to help distract him. If Kain does not interrupt him he will keep going to the end of the tale, at which point Kirk will check to see if he's awake. No sense in waking the other when he needs the rest so. ]

[Despite trying to fight it, Kain starts drifting off a couple times, nodding back awake to catch part of a story... only to drift back off again. Soon enough though, he's completely asleep, lightly snoring.]
