[Open] Remembering one of the good guys

WHO: Anyone who knew/cared about Herc!
WHAT: A wake for Herc
WHEN: Around now, the 10th of Egg
WHERE: Tavern!
NOTES: Drinking, grief, etc.

There aren't any formalities here. The Calling has taken another Grey Warden, but for once he was known to more than Wardens and mourned by more than them too. The music is lively to start with, mostly because Herc probably would have grumped if it had all been sad and there's a tab at the bar open to anyone worthy. Granted, one has to manage to be polite to all the Grey Wardens for the duration of the wake to be deemed worthy, but that's not too hard, is it?

Hit up the bar, share a story, complain about how he owed you money, and remember someone who deserves it.

Inessa laughs at that. "Garahel is already hideously spoiled, so I understand. I never had a pet before him, as they aren't exactly a common feature in the Circle, and I fussed about possibly depriving him of anything. Thus the tragedy before you." She takes a couple of mabari crunch treats from her satchel, giving one to each. This way, no one has to whine about feeling left out.

"And you saved the griffons as well. Seeing them out of harm's way and thriving here...it's a weight off these shoulders. Though I hear Warden Maja's names aren't popular."

Puppy takes the treat happily, giving a quiet woof of appreciation before munching away, tail happily thumping the floor. Kaisa can't help but laugh, patting his head. "I reckon the sign of a real Fereldan dog is being spoiled. We love our dogs too much to do anything else." Because, you know, Orlesians never ever spoil their dogs. They just don't. That's a Fereldan thing.

"I'm real glad about the griffins, too. Could've knocked me over with a damned feather when we found out that we had real live griffins. I don't know if they're enough to bring back the entire population--But as long as they're still alive, there's hope, I figure." Fourteen doesn't seem like enough, but hey. Maybe they could talk to some dog breeders for tips on how to help the population? "I hope they're big enough to ride some day. That'd be something."

That's something Inessa has pondered as well, concerned about the griffon's long-term prospects for survival when they're so few. They're the only real good thing to come out of Weisshaupt in quite a while, and she wants to believe this is a sign of revival, not a last gasp. The odds may be against them, but Kaisa's right. There's still hope. "Perhaps there are others hidden away, just as these were? It may not seem likely, but then no one could have predicted these hatchlings either. If I were a betting sort, I would count on there being more relevant information in the Weisshaupt archives."

For her part, she would have turned those inside out on general principle. However, being a strong dissenting voice to the recent madness ensured that freedom and privacy were hardly available to her. There wasn't much to be done while heavily monitored.

She watches Puppy fondly for a moment before looking back up. "It's a thrilling thought, isn't it? And terrifying, but if the Grey Wardens of old could manage, then current ones will find away. For now, I'm still wondering how close I can get before they become...testy." Intact as she is, it's reasonable to assume that the answer is 'not that close'.

"We'll see when we get back there, I suppose." Kaisa replied, rubbing her neck. "If we ever get back there. Can't believe the Inquisition is sending off to go fancy pants it up in Orlais when the bullshit is just getting worse up north." She frowned, but shook her head. Not anything she can do about it, really. Not even complain, all things considered. At least officially. Nothing was going to stop her from unofficially complaining, constantly.

"Ah, well--I'm sure it'll just take time for them to warm up to us. And maybe then...we could start riding them? I wonder how long that'll take. Not too long, I hope. Can you imagine that? Riding into battle like they did in the old days. Scare the piss outta anything that dared cross us. Darkspawn would be sitting there like 'holy shit!'. Send the archdemon back t' the Deep Roads an' everything."

Maybe not, but you never know.

Kaisa's colorful manner of speech gets a small grin from Inessa, who can't help but like the woman's spirit. "It would be quite a sight, for anyone. If that would buy us some time from darkspawn, I'd say it's well worth any hardship in learning. It's far too soon, of course, but can you imagine riding them back to Weisshaupt? The reactions of those Wardens would be marvelous."

Her smirk fades as she mulls over the Inquisition's priorities. "I can see the logic in dealing with Orlais first, given that it borders Skyhold...but that doesn't make waiting any easier."

"I just don't understand why we're supposed to care about Orlais. If you ask me, we should just let Queen Anora take it over for a few decades, kill a bunch of the nobles and replace them with Fereldans. See how they like it." It's only after she's finished her angry tirade that she pauses to glance around and see if they were overheard by anyone particularly...Orlesian. Not that she's sorry, but if she's about to get into a bar fight, she should know.

Luckily, it looks like everyone is too drunk or otherwise preoccupied to care. Kaisa shrugs and moves on.

"I think the Wardens in Weisshaupt would shit themselves, too. I like it. I'm gonna put in an official request."

"An invasion to spite theirs? I suppose there's some justice in that." Inessa's not especially invested in patriotism other than a deep love of mabari, but really, Orlais could do worse. If there's going to be a bar fight, Inessa better get clear because she's useless in those. She glances around warily for a moment before relaxing.

"Please do. I suspect it would be quite popular. One fantasy crossed off the bucket list, hm?"
