[Open] Remembering one of the good guys

WHO: Anyone who knew/cared about Herc!
WHAT: A wake for Herc
WHEN: Around now, the 10th of Egg
WHERE: Tavern!
NOTES: Drinking, grief, etc.

There aren't any formalities here. The Calling has taken another Grey Warden, but for once he was known to more than Wardens and mourned by more than them too. The music is lively to start with, mostly because Herc probably would have grumped if it had all been sad and there's a tab at the bar open to anyone worthy. Granted, one has to manage to be polite to all the Grey Wardens for the duration of the wake to be deemed worthy, but that's not too hard, is it?

Hit up the bar, share a story, complain about how he owed you money, and remember someone who deserves it.

For the first bit, Kaisa grins and sings along. And there's Andraste's mabari, by the Holy Prophet's side. The song is old but good, beloved by anyone properly Fereldan. As the song goes on, In the fight against Tevinter, that dog would never hide, the grin flickers. Herc would have loved it, she's sure. A room full of people singing about mabari. As the song rolls on, her emotions continue to flicker--not in the pent up anger of earlier, but in genuine sorrow. They say the Maker sent him special, always loyal, without pride. A true example of a warrior. So he could be the sworn companion of the Maker's Holy Bride.

By the end, she's not singing, but holding a hand over her mouth, glancing away. She's not crying, Kaisa doesn't cry, but her eyes are suspiciously shiny, and she has to take a few deep breaths.

"Fuck, I love dogs." She mumbles, leaning against a table.

Bethany finished the song, as loudly as possible, and smiled to the cheering (and let's face it, rather drunk) crowd, climbing down from the table. That was where she found Kaisa, her eyes bright, breathing deeply.

She looked at her friend, as if she understood exactly what she meant, but what she said instead was, "... I love dogs too."

Because yes, she understood perfectly.

All Kaisa can really do is nod, still blinking rapidly. Her mouth is still covered--she's not sure if it really helps, but it feels like it does. Thank the Maker Bethany didn't try to press her about her behavior, Kaisa isn't sure she could take it.

It's a sign that the night is too late and she's too drunk, she decides.

"Thank you for the song." She tells Bethany quietly, finally putting down her hand, once she's sure she's in control. "I think...I think I need to turn in. It's late."

Bethany nods her head soberly, before offering her fellow Warden another smile. "We'll talk soon. Meanwhile, go, sleep. Thank you for your own song."
