WHO: The Righteous Snow Teams & anyone who wants to watch (and laugh, and judge.)
WHAT: A GIANT SNOW FIGHT.
WHEN: 13th July or whatever the IC equivalent is.
WHERE: In the valley near Skyhold.
NOTES: ooc post 1 and also ooc post 2. The snow fight itself is closed to those that signed up, but the observation/chilling afterwards stuff is open. No warnings to add here, please put any that come up in the subject lines!

Also we have room for one more last minute sign up!

Wrap up warm! It probably goes without saying that certain medical personnel will be less than sympathetic to those who come to them with colds after this.

The valley near Skyhold has never really completely defrosted, given how high up they are in the Frostbacks, and Adelaide's students have found themselves working with an environment very receptive to the reintroduction of cold, even in the summer months.

The battle field is impressive. Each of the six teams has their own fortress, forming a rough circle on a thick blanket of snow. Each fort has one flag flapping over all others, the only one each has that cannot be stolen (or, at least, would be very challenging.) Their other seven flags are considerably smaller, and where they are depends entirely on how the team opts to defend them. The vast majority of the snow is white, but there are generous patches within and around each fort that matches that Team Fort's colour. Each fort is a little different, but comes with a catapult build inside it, and scattered around the field are large snow drifts, some battering rams, and a trebuchet. (No trebearchet, sadly. We can always dream.)

Every team member is given a sash of their team colour, and a round wooden shield that is so padded that hurting someone with it would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Far enough away to be spared the fighting, but not to entirely escape the chill that has been renewed in the valley, are some benches. There is warm cider and some food being served, and people are welcome to come and watch (and laugh, and judge) and/or hang out with the noble warriors once the fight has wound down.

IC-ish RULES AND STUFF.
1. NO WEAPONS, NO MAGIC.
Assume there is unlimited snow - some dyed to match team colours - so there are snowballs galore! Every person also gets an extremely well padded round shield as a chance to defend themselves. Don't use the shield as a weapon, pls and ty.

2. FLAAAAGS.
Each team gets seven flags that match their team colour. The IC goal is to capture as many flags as you can, but OOCly this is flexible and timey wimey and you don't need to worry about keeping track of flags bc who has time for that?

3. NO VIOLENCE.
Or, more accurately, no going out there to hurt people - it is a snow fight and there is siege equipment, let's not kid ourselves. That said; no tackling anyone smoller than you. If you hurt someone, apologise and don't be an ass. Don't make an NPC referee come after you.

4. BASICALLY JUST HAVE FUN.
Characters can't be eliminated unless they're being a big jerk, but no one wants that to happen because friendship is magic, or something. If it's fun and its awesome then odds are it's totally fine, unless it'd put a character in danger.

There will be an IC prize for winning, which will be ICly due to happen after Orlais since that opens up so soon after the snow fight.

A quick recap on how the winners will be determined OOCly - in three weeks time I will do a tally of points based on comment count and tagging around done per team. Three weeks will hopefully allow everyone a chance to dive in even if unexpected RL things happen, as they are wont to do, and not put on too much pressure with the Orlais plots opening up.

How to get points:
1. Open starters! Every team will get 2 points per team member that posts an open starter.

2. Tag around! Every team will get 2 points every time a team member tags a new person. (If character A tags characters B, C & D they will get 6 points total for tagging around - three different threads with character A and character B would still only result in 2 points.)

3. Keep threads going, hop around and have fun! Every comment by a team member will be worth 1 point. (Multi-comment responses ie. one tag split over two or more comments will still only count for 1 point.)

4. Be hilarious, do something awesome, idk persuade me that something is worth an extra point. NO SERIOUSLY, TELL ME I love excuses to reward people for puns and/or being absurd.

5. IC rule breaking may result in points being taken away because how rude.

He does look ridiculous, and even Beleth can't resist an amused smile when she sees him, offering him a thermos of hot chocolate as he settles in. She has the courtesy to not mention anything about it, though, and instead turns to study her little snow army with a judicious eye. "I haven't gotten to make these in years, not since I was a child. I thought it'd be fun to do while I watched everyone having it out." At this, she gestures off to the snow forts, where people were viciously fighting to claim...whatever they got for winning. Beleth hadn't paid attention.

"I bet I could make a qunari one," She offers, musing over what she's already built. "Just add some horns and make it a bit bigger."

LET'S DO THIS | Teammates

Kas is so very into this, ready and helping make snowballs. Any way he could get rid of some stress without bloodshed? He was down for that.

The fact that so many adults were playing helped with the feel of it being childish, too. Instead it just meant he could go all out. That meant ice balls, obviously.

"Let's do this!"

Rogue On The Battlefield | Enemies

The smallest qunari is not attacking the others as much as using all the stealth and techniques he has learned from Zevran to get into the other teams fortresses and grabbing flags.

Getting his hand on one, he carefully starts sneaking out again, keeping low to the snow so that his white hair gives him some cover while he keeps to the sides and the shadows.

He's no master assassin, however, so you could probably get him.

Wildcard!

"Dammit, Taas--" Korrin finally got her chance to tackle someone, at least, but of course it has to be the one person on the battlefield who can physically overpower her. She's not going to make it easy for him, though. The Vashoth woman squirms and tries to fling the last of her seafoam snow into his face, not even sure if she's aiming right since she's getting to know that snowbank rather intimately.

"Ah, we both know well I can take you, Uragano-" He cuts off with a crackling laugh, squirming around to tuck himself against Taas' chest. "-and how much you enjoy it when I do!"

The battlefield probably is not the best place for lover's talk but when an opportunity such as this presents itself? How can he not!
gatheringstorm: (shocked)

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, shit--" Merrick. Korrin's all for a good, competitive game, but she knows her Dalish friend will amp that up considerably. There's no way she's getting out of here unscathed, but she won't make it easy for him. Tucking that staff behind an ear, she makes a run for it.

[personal profile] gatheringstorm 2016-07-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Still clutching the flag tightly, Korrin lets out a groan. "I'm going to be feeling that one for a while. But don't break the rules, I'll be fine." And to prove it, now's the perfect time to stuff snow down his front.

For a moment, Inessa's strongly reminded of a colleague back in the Circle tower. He was singularly focused, clearly knowledgeable, but social skills were far from his strong point. She never felt she had room to judge, her nose buried in a book half the time. So, there's no judging from her. "You must have seen quite a bit, then. I've heard that Skyhold is rarely uneventful."

[Sniffed, examined and licked and bumped against. He whines softly at that last part, but Inessa just shakes her head, well in-tune with her mabari's dramatics.]

It's probably best, this way. Knowing Garahel, in the excitement he would forget his training and strength. No one would stand a chance. But I'll try to make it up to him with a game of fetch.

Lexa snorts softly at the mention of Violet, and nods. "Any of the men on that team would make good targets." She takes her shot instead of giving a reason, and then looks to Ruby.

"Do you know how to operate the catapult? If not, I will and you can steal the flag."
heda: (053)

[personal profile] heda 2016-07-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that meant to dissuade me?

[ Lexa scoffs and continues pouring the water over their piles, taking enough time and care to melt the stacks down to bottom before moving on. It makes her an easy target for attack, but that doesn't seem to worry her as much as completing this task.

She sneaks a couple quick glances at Church as he moves and grabs some snow, but he is much larger than her, which in this battle has actually become a good thing. It won't save her from getting pummeled, but she's much more concerned about getting tackled. ]
heda: (069)

[personal profile] heda 2016-07-16 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
A very limited window, since as soon as the initial shock of impact has worn off, Lexa is getting hands and knees beneath her. If she has a flag (she does) it's not immediately apparent, and she doesn't appear to be injured so much as surprised and maybe a little irritated with herself. A little more irritated after Cosima manages to shove a handful of snow down the back of her collar, an indignity she's managed not to suffer yet today, somehow.

She makes a noise of surprise and protest, and almost manages to catch at the rifter as she makes her escape, but gloved fingers can't quite manage a grip. She's back on her feet quickly, though, not bothering to try to shake the snow back out before she's giving chase.
youwonscience: (and it said behold)

[personal profile] youwonscience 2016-07-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
It has belatedly occurred to Cosima that volunteering to participate in a snow fight with a lot of people who actually fight, not with snow, on a regular basis was probably a pretty crazy idea. The worst that can happen is (probably) that she'll end up multi-colored and soaking wet, but even so.

It's going to quickly become apparent to both of them that Lexa is gaining, and no handy violet teammate seems to be around.

Exit strategy, Cosima thinks sternly. Next time, plan all the way to the exit strategy.

"It's not like I've any faith in him giving a damn about mages. He doesn't give a care, so he doesn't deserve reverence." Let mages not have to force the world to treat them better every single step of the way and he'll reconsider his stance. And if it annoys the prickly Chantry types, so what? His existence probably already does.

"But what do you think about when you think about the Maker?" It's been a very long time since he's given a care about anything Bruce thinks. This? Could be interesting.

[ She is all knees and elbows, letting out huffs and gasps as she scrabbles for reach as Alistair holds the flag put of range, eyes squinching shut when she is pushed back face-first. With her free hand, she spades up cold snow and deposits fistfuls of it onto the shem she's caught beneath her in scattering piles of ice, as if she might bury him.

'Ow', says Bruce, and her eyes snap open, realising there's a third presence, and who it is. ]

Get it! [ she shrills, as if maybe her teammate is in fact open to instruction. ] I have him!! The flag, he's holding--

[ She has to pause to spit out her own hair in the scrabble. ]

D. Break time at the benches?

[personal profile] circleprodigy 2016-07-17 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Though Inessa has decided not to participate -she's not the most athletic person and without magic would just be an easy target- she nonetheless arrives to lend moral support. Garahel is at her side, naturally, a raspberry-colored scarf around his neck to advertise his allegiance. Whenever Ciri gets a chance to catch her breath, her fellow Warden will be waiting with a cup of hot cider ready, offering it the moment she's within reach.

"Here, you look as though you could use a warm-up."

Although she is having the time of her life out on the field, she is grateful for the break and happily picks up her pace to reach the pair sooner. The cider is blessing from the Maker, she decides and simply holds it in her hands, letting her fingers warm up before taking a sip.

"Mm, I definitely needed that. You don't realize how cold you are until you stop running around." She breathes out a tired sigh, sits and stretches her legs out in her front of her. "Have you two been enjoying the game?"

The snowball flies true. Sure, maybe he could have ducked, but that would have required him watching out for someone from behind rather than eyeing someone else who was edging toward the front of the Fort.

"Back, you scavenger!" Technically he's not supposed to be being too noisy. There's a Plan For Drawing Fire and it involves yelling that they have Anders elsewhere because Ingrid's there and she's Ander and then there'll be an ambush... but he's just been hit by a snowball by Adelaide. It's war. And two returned snowballs just before he finds the slide down to catch up with her.

It is entirely possible.

[See that innocent smile.]

Of course it is entirely possible that anyone trying to get into our fort is going to find themselves taking a snow ball to the face from the trebuchet.

[Sam, he does not know how you live your life. He just knows he has a crazy Orlesian on his side.]

"Oh, yes. I've been busy reminding him that this is just a game for people on two legs, or he might have rushed over to help you." Garahel wags his tail and barks; he could have helped get those flags, honest. "I stopped trying to keep track of all the other teams, just watching the progress of yours. You're certainly dominating the battlefield, but I would expect no less."

Finally, Avery stops with a quiet sigh and turns back around. "I've seen enough. Try to avoid anything that could be called eventful these days."

So she says, but she's clearly in the wrong place for that. And yet for some reason she stays.

Religion is one thing Bruce isn't going to try and argue about, honestly, so for the most part he just more or less takes in Anders's words with a polite enough nod. He and Anders may not be on the best terms but he knows how to still be polite enough - especially when there were snowballs flying around everywhere.

The question however catches him off guard. Bruce blinks, clearly looking like he hadn't been expecting that, and then he makes another face.

"I... ah," he pauses, tries to think about it a bit more, and then shrugs. "The... usual? Maker's breath or something, I guess?" Swearing by the Maker's name wasn't exactly something that Bruce tended to do that all often, if he actually ever did it at all.

"That's not something I'd want splattered all over me, even if I was a Warden." She pulls herself to her feet, continuing to brush snow off herself so it doesn't soak in.

"A fun fact for you: Dalish don't wear shoes. I found these boots when I arrived and claimed them for myself. I don't really know what good boots are like." So hers are old and busted, pretty much.
