The pirate joke makes him laugh, a breathy ha and cheerfully bared teeth; none of those concerns, no.

"It has a very long tail, and it climbs well," Jeannot says. After a moment he thinks to clarify, "It is not a mon-key, I have been assured," in case Anders is familiar with the north's wilder inventions. "Or at least it is a very strange one. I bought it because it seemed so terribly unhappy that I thought it must be mistreated, but it does not seem any happier now with me. Yesterday it bit me."

He holds up a hand to display the small array of scabbed pinprick wounds. He would set it free--it being a ring-tailed lemur, for the record, as I've decided they exist somewhere on this planet--were it not guaranteed to die in the cold.
