After the emotional trek to Asher's home and back, Kirk found that he was rather glad to be back within the walls of Skyhold. It was familiar and comforting and he knew what he could do here to keep his mind off things. To keep his mind off the passing of a friend that could have been, keep his mind off injustices in Orelais, keep his mind off his own situation. Funny, how death brought those things to surface with startling clarity.
He can be found in the early mornings running around Skyhold's perimeter, followed quickly by moving to working on his horsemanship at the barn (which in variably also means that he will spend some quality time around the bog unicorn, which in his mind he has unofficially adopted). More often than not he is also accompanied by a small black and white cat who has something suspiciously like a mustache on its upper lip. Don't tell Anders.
From there things are a bit more difficult when it came to finding ways to fill his time, except on the days when he was teaching lessons in math, science, and hand-to-hand self-defense. That latter of which he can now join in on since he has fully recovered from his previous injuries. It meant that more people were hitting the dirt, but that's how it was supposed to be. You didn't learn if you didn't come out with a bruise or two.
Of course he usually finds his way around to the library, usually in search of another story to read since he's not much of one for the historical texts anymore, biased as they tend to be in his view. Maybe he's napping. What? It's comfortable there. But why just ready about places in the library when he can out and explore in the woods outside Skyhold? Granted, he never goes far, but it's something and for just a bit he can pretend he's Captain Kirk exploring a new and exciting planet again. Let the Rifter have his tiny fantasy. (Invariably, Leonard the Cat tends to join him on this too, complete with fashioned harness and leash to keep him from wandering to far.)
And if all else fails he makes his way to the tavern, where he can easily be convinced to share a drink, sing a song, or maybe turn the tables and convince you to play some chess.

He bounced on the tips of his toes, despite the obvious sheen of sweat and the dark patch on his shirt.
"Personally it's my favorite form of exercise."

Kirk laughed softly, crossing his arms over his chest now with a little smirk.
"Want to join me?" he asked her. "One lap around." He motioned to the route he had been taking for some time now, with a few variations here and there for variety.

"As much as I appreciate the offer from a handsome stranger, I must decline," she says, a bit more brusquely than flirtatiously. "I have duties to attend to here, I'm afraid."
no subject
"Duties?" he queried. "What sort? I assume for the Inquisition, of course."
Also known as Kirk subtly digging for what role she played and whom, in fact, she might be.

"I guess the jogging gave it away?" he chuckled, not even bothering to deny it.

"Jogging, running, cardio - all of them mean the same thing more or less," he waved his hand back and forth idly.

"Cardio exercise," He explained. "It's good for your heart and lungs. It means to up your respiration and heart rate. The more of it you do, the longer you can run or do other forms of physical labor without getting winded since you've trained your body to use your breaths efficiently."

She tries not to appear too vacant as she stares at Kirk. "I'll take your word for it," she decides. Working on breathing, that she knows, but not in the context of trotting around in circles like a fool.

"Heh. Trust me, it's good for you. Where I'm from it's an important part of any training regime," he laughed a bit, giving a sheepish little smile.

"It's a lot like Thedas, as far as environment goes. Technologically speaking we're a lot more advanced, and we don't have magic where I'm from. Or dragons either. But they come in fairy tales quite often, which is interesting on its own."
no subject
"Fairy tales?" she repeats, unfamiliar with the term, at least the way he's using it. "...are dragons considered fairies on 'Earth'?" The way she says it, it's like she thinks he's making up the name.
no subject
"Oh, ah - a fairy tale is like a bedtime story in my world. They're stories about things that aren't real, used for entertainment and often to teach a lesson of some sort to children," he explained. "Creatures like dragons and griffins don't exist on Earth - or at least my Earth. But they often show up in stories as either an evil creature to be defeated, or as a helper to the hero."
Which was again curious on its own and worth further investigation, possibly as a side project, but tangents.

"Don't let me keep you, then," she says irritably, waving him off as she angles her gaze back towards the camp. That's Teren language for 'this conversation is over', and in fact Kirk received the pleasant version.
