After the emotional trek to Asher's home and back, Kirk found that he was rather glad to be back within the walls of Skyhold. It was familiar and comforting and he knew what he could do here to keep his mind off things. To keep his mind off the passing of a friend that could have been, keep his mind off injustices in Orelais, keep his mind off his own situation. Funny, how death brought those things to surface with startling clarity.
He can be found in the early mornings running around Skyhold's perimeter, followed quickly by moving to working on his horsemanship at the barn (which in variably also means that he will spend some quality time around the bog unicorn, which in his mind he has unofficially adopted). More often than not he is also accompanied by a small black and white cat who has something suspiciously like a mustache on its upper lip. Don't tell Anders.
From there things are a bit more difficult when it came to finding ways to fill his time, except on the days when he was teaching lessons in math, science, and hand-to-hand self-defense. That latter of which he can now join in on since he has fully recovered from his previous injuries. It meant that more people were hitting the dirt, but that's how it was supposed to be. You didn't learn if you didn't come out with a bruise or two.
Of course he usually finds his way around to the library, usually in search of another story to read since he's not much of one for the historical texts anymore, biased as they tend to be in his view. Maybe he's napping. What? It's comfortable there. But why just ready about places in the library when he can out and explore in the woods outside Skyhold? Granted, he never goes far, but it's something and for just a bit he can pretend he's Captain Kirk exploring a new and exciting planet again. Let the Rifter have his tiny fantasy. (Invariably, Leonard the Cat tends to join him on this too, complete with fashioned harness and leash to keep him from wandering to far.)
And if all else fails he makes his way to the tavern, where he can easily be convinced to share a drink, sing a song, or maybe turn the tables and convince you to play some chess.

He laughed. "I wasn't expecting quite so many adjectives. I didn't realize I had made such an impression."

"I mean, I know I'm good looking, but I try not to be vain," he tossed his hair, growing shaggy in his days here, to long without a cut. He smiled a little when the other mentioned Sam. "I'm glad that speaks well of me. And hopefully he has too."
no subject
He nods. "I don't think he'd share so much space with you otherwise."
no subject
"I don't either," he shook his head. "But I'm glad it speaks well of me."

"They were quite the surprise," he sighed, but there's a fondness there. "I don't know why I'm surprised to become an accidental parent with my track record."

"And others," he nodded. "I've always been of the mind of why deny yourself all the pleasures the universe has to offer?"
no subject
no subject
"Most certainly. That's my rule of thumb wherever I go, naturally," he returned the grin with a more sultry one of his own, and a wink.

"The spirits and demons part? No, not at all. But the traveling to new worlds? It was my job back home," he smiled at him. "But those stories are better told in private."
no subject
"Your job?" Cyril asks. Then he chuckles a bit. "Are they all naughty stories then? Or just complicated?"
no subject
"Naturally there are a few naughty ones, some complicated too," he wagged his hand back and forth. "But yes, my job. Back home, I was on a mission to uncover new worlds."
no subject
"That's what you do with your star ships?" he asks, and the way he says 'star ships' it's clear he thinks of it as two words rather than a complex noun.
no subject
He laughed. "Yes, that's what I do. We travel the stars, looking for new worlds and people, and if we can make contact. Other ships are used to render aid or perform scientific research, or if necessary take military action."
This was, strictly speaking, quite the violation of the Prime Directive, but in all honesty, did Cyril even believe him? He knew it sounded like a tall tale, at best, and he had come to accept that. But, if it entertained someone for awhile, why not tell it? It wasn't as if he was showing anyone how to do these things, merely what he was and did. It was much harder to make up some complex lie than tell the truth, after all.

Cyril's eyes widened a bit at the idea. "And you're sure it isn't magic doing all of this?"
no subject
"Heh, very sure," he chuckled. "Though I suppose science is, in its own way, a kind of magic."
no subject
"That means... That one day in the future someone like me could do that. Someone like me could go into the stars and see other worlds and meet other people."
no subject
"Possibly," he agreed. "I think it's a very possible future for your world. But you'll have to get there on your own." He shook his head.
He could tell his stories, but he wouldn't lay out the schematics for them. Yes he was teaching math, but he didn't go into anything overly advanced. Most of his students simply wanted to learn things they could apply in their daily lives and to higher class jobs, which was fine by him. He certainly wasn't about to give them the formula for rocket fuel.
no subject
"Oh,of course. It's more meaningful that way." Cyril sighs a bit. "But still, it'd be nice to see."
no subject
"I think it would be too. I believe this world would have much to gain and much to offer."
You know, once it ironed out some of his more severe ideological ideas. He couldn't begin to imagine what the Chantry would do if Star Fleet or Klingons or Organians showed up now. It would probably ignite a whole other war, much less what they might do if they got the power of star ships.
