Player Plot: My Father's Eyes

WHAT: The group is off to stop Red Templars and visit the Empress's soldiers.
WHEN: IC it's August 30 for the main event, add a few days of padding for travel time to and from.
WHERE: southeast Orlais, not many days out from Skyhold at a front in the War of the Lions

"What? But how do you call for him if it is an emergency?" Aren't mounts supposed to come running if their riders need a quick getaway?

That was... a rather specific scenario that she just described there. Bruce frowns at the question, clearly having not put much thought into that part, at least.

"I can handle myself." He's managed as such before in the past, and that isn't going to change just because some dracolisk decided to stick around him.

While that may be true for Bruce, what he's shown at Skyhold has been a rather quiet man who shies away from confrontation. So he will have to excuse Christine for giving him a somewhat skeptical look.

"Well, Maker willing you are never without help in a dangerous situation regardless of your skills at handling things."

[amygdalae]

He doesn't blame her for her reaction - he knows exactly the kind of person he tends to seem like to others, and in a way, that had been what he desired. But part of that facade had already been chipped with his mage status being general knowledge now, and he didn't want people trying to cover for him because of what they thought was true. If push came to shove, he could and would take care of himself.

"I'll do my best." A wry smile crosses his face, but the words are still genuine enough. "I'm not here to be a burden for you and everyone else, Delacroix. You don't have to worry about me."

"Telling me not to worry is like telling me not to breathe," she stares dryly. "I simply am made to worry." Sorry, Bruce, but you've grown on her and so you are subject to her concern.

"Have I thanked you for coming with us? I am very grateful."

[amygdalae]

The wry expression on Bruce's face only becomes more evident at her words.

"Then I guess I'll have to make sure to not let you worry so much." He returns with a shake of his head. "You don't need to thank me - I'm just here to do my job." And even if that had changed somewhat since the beginning... the spirit of it was still the same.

"A difficult task, I am afraid." But she leaves it at that. "Of course. But I mean our stop at the army base. Stopping these Red Templars is important, but taking the time to ask after my father is something extra, and I appreciate that you respect its importance to me."

[amygdalae]

"Its your parents. Of course that would be important." Bruce's own... experiences may be tattered but that in no way diminishes his understanding of others. If anything he's glad that Christine still has that chance; its not something a lot of mages tend to have now, especially in these times.

He turns to gaze into the distance, shaking off his dark thoughts before they started to stick. "I think its more important now than ever to reestablish those connections. There's no way to be sure what could happen in the next few months." No use pushing back things now, really. They'd more likely end up as regrets.

Christine does feel lucky that her letter to her mother was answered. She knows the woman could have crumpled it up and thrown it away, completely ignoring the fact she has a daughter out there in the world.

"Very true. I must make moments last while I have them." The world is so uncertain in these troubled times, and who knows what tomorrow will bring? Her thoughts turn to Asher, and how she never thought he'd leave the world the way he did. She needs to reach out and strengthen her connections before they become severed by outside forces.

[amygdalae]

"More or less." And if he could facilitate that in any way, then Bruce is more than willing to do his best to make it happen. His experiences are his own and if other people could have a better outcome, he would wish it on them.

The dracolisk lets out a loud snort and flicks it tail, drawing Bruce back to the present and where they're at. He glances at their surroundings and then looks to Christine with a small smile.

"Let's hurry. If we're lucky, we might reach our destination quicker than we expect." And then she would have more time to find her father if the chance permitted.

"I would like that." It would ease the knot of worry currently settled in her gut. And so she asks the person steering her horse to go faster, so they can get to the front and find her father.
