Norrington pulled out of his form, holding himself into place, sweat beading on his forehead as he let out a sharp breath. Green eyes narrowed slightly as the woman spoke, but then cleared as she answered with her title. He nodded once, respectfully, "Knight Enchanter Amsel."
A faint pause at her request, before he tilted his head to the side, gesturing for her to join him in the training ring. "I would be pleased to assist you. Would you prefer sword and shield - or simply sword to sword?"
He understood the importance of getting in practice - even if it was with a stranger. There was much to be said about practicing against someone else.
"I wield blade alone, but that is no reason to suppose I will never need to fight against one who raises shield, as well." She does not quite smile. Herian holds herself too rigidly, too sternly, for that, especially when such serious matters are being discussed. Training is no time for lightness.
"I will retain but a blade. What you bear I shall I leave entirely open to your own preferences, ser." A pause, then, and she considers speaking more, but only once she has stepped into the ring. "My hope is train in a warrior's specialisation. Make myself better able to defend and draw focus of enemies in battle, for the sake of those I fight alongside."
"Blade and shield then." James nodded his head once, going to fetch his helm, and his shield, from the far side of the ring. He is as serious as her, and his posture straightens in response to hers. If she was intending them both to be formal, then she has her wish.
"I see. Well, then I will be delighted to assist you in this endeavor. I am familiar with the Knight Enchanter path - a dear friend of mine is a master in it. So whatever help I can provide, in advising you on how to handle your weapon, please let me know." He tapped his sword against his shield once, before pulling his helm down over his eyes.
"How would you like to proceed? Stop after three taps to assess?"
the plot I was running has gotten through the most intense GMing so I will be less terrible now ;;;;
She is gratified by his willingness to aid her; perhaps that shows in her face more than anything else, the slight hitching up of her brows, a very faint tug at the corner of her mouth that does not progress into a smile but marks the impulse. That a Knight-Commander is willing to see a mage train themselves to become stronger is a pleasing thing, though she suspects it might be crass to respond so bluntly.
"You are very kind, Knight-Commander." You do your fellow Templars credit, she might venture, but it would be foolish to offer such grand praise to one so newly met; at worst she could be wrong, at best it might sound disingenuous. "I have some years of study in the practice of Knight-Enchanter, but mages were given little opportunity to practice the proper art of swordsmanship. I believe... I consider it my duty to uphold the path as best I can. To study the school of the Champion so that I can better aid any that wish to come to me for schooling in this particular path of magic seems only proper."
It is one of the longer offerings of words strung together at once she's offered anyone since coming to Skyhold. A nod; "Three taps it is, ser." Her staff is set aside, the standard issue Inquisition blade spun about her hand for a brief moment, re-familiarising herself with the weight of it, as she falls into stance, one foot before the other posture very straight. Do not overreach, she reminds herself. Leaning in too far has won her more than one scar from a chevalier's blade.
i've got nothing I am like thirty tags behind right now oi.
"We are at war, my lady. We should all be better armed for the evil that comes for us." He stated simply, shifting the weight of his shield, so he would be able to raise it up higher to block fire and ice. "I have seen far too many good men and women lose their lives, for the simple lack of training."
Beyond that, the Knight Commander teaching a Knight Enchanter? It was just the sort of good-will that the Templars would and did need. "I am impressed - I have rarely heard of a Knight Enchanter that could continue onto Champion. You must be quite the battlemage indeed."
A nod of the head - he understood the terms - and then he began to circle. Looking for an opening that would allow him to move in quickly, he noted that she tended to lean backwards. Trying to break an old habit, perhaps. In answer, he stepped sideways, going for a light tap to her side, to see how fast her blade work truly was.
You're welcome friend! :)
