"How would you feel about having saved a herd of baby goats?"

I mean, he doesn't have to. But he does, because she grinned before, so it's worth the effort of pretending that this requires some serious contemplation, clasping his empty hand over his mouth in consideration.
"A big herd," he says. "At least twenty. And they have to be very small. Very cute."

There is smiling but lots of sighing because this is obviously such a possible chore.
"They'll be cutest, most fluffiest herd of twenty baby goats that anyone has ever seen. Can goats cry? Oh well, I'll say they cried too."

He turns his stone again and closes his hand around it. It's a decisive sort of gesture, because here comes a subject change.

And then the ball drops or rather the subject changes. Her favorite. Ciri's gotten rather better about the entire experience, perhaps not any less bitter but better in that she does not see Warden mages transforming into horrible abominations in her dreams any longer. No, it's little boys now.
"Yes, well... if it means anything I spent some time wondering if you were dead in a ditch somewhere." Her voice comes out after a long moment of silence as finally sits yet still idly moving the dagger in her hands.
"It wasn't all so bad. We got to stay up all night playing card games, reading old battle maps and wondering if one of the others were going to sneak in to slit our throats in our sleep."
