Kingsway Rifter Arrival

WHO: New rifters & their rescuers
WHAT: People fall out of a rift and get attacked by stuff
WHEN: Kingsway 8
WHERE: The coast of the Waking Sea in northern Orlais, just west of the mountains.
NOTES: The arrival log is open to all. Solas was able to alert the Inquisition to the general area where the new rifters would be arriving so people could be sent to pick them up.

You were asleep--deeply or fitfully, for the last time or just resting your eyes for a moment-- and then you were not. And wherever you were was not, anymore, replaced by nothing but the sensation of falling, tumbling into endless, bottomless nothing. If this were still a dream, you would wake before you hit the ground. You can't die in a dream, they say. In some worlds.

In this world, you're plunged down through warm, sticky sea air and full-body into salt water. It's shallow enough to stand and keep your head above the rolling waves--but you'll need to do more than that to live. Overhead, there's a flaring, shifting, green-lit tear in reality. Around you, there are a number of ghastly figures: some float above, hooded and rasping, poised to freeze the sea around you if you don't get out of it quickly enough, while others are spindly monstrosities that burst up from the sand and rocks beneath your feet and scream as they emerge from the water. Whatever arrived with you floats in the waves, slowly pushed toward the shore, or sinks beneath the surface. It may be wisest to leave it for now and collect it when the area is slightly less demon-infested.

To add to your troubles, there's a narrow splinter of light in the same sickly green as whatever brought you here, now glowing out of the palm of your left hand. It aches, a bone-deep pain that gnaws even through all the distractions.

But there's help, on the shore.

"There are plenty of reasons people with ill intentions do not attack right away," He replies. It's a lesson he's learned well. There are times with people who begin with good intentions can be turned to attack him. There are other reasons that spring to mind, as well--that these demons are a greater foe than he, and she would prefer to let him tire himself out fighting them. Or that she's waiting for him to lower his guard. Or--

At the mention of the Outsider, he looks around, like he expects the man to quite literally float on by. Mostly because...that's exactly what he expects. He looks at his hand--Korrin can see that there's a symbol burnt into his hand, now shimmering with the green light from the shard. To Corvo, he can only imagine this change is the purpose of the new tests.

"Well, you can tell him, wherever he is, that I'm not playing his games anymore." Despite this, he raises his hand at the rift as instructed, because he doesn't trust any of this to not continue trying to kill him if he throws a temper tantrum and decides to stop. "I'm done."

"Fair point, but I'm still not attacking you unless you attack me first." At least he seems to listen about his shard, which promptly interacts with the rift. She doesn't envy him for what that much feel like to his newly-changed hand, but at least it does the trick; nearby demons are bent over, stunned.

"Can we talk about this after? I don't want to get killed because we were busy chatting." With that in mind, she moves to take advantage of the temporary stall, sending a fiery glyph under a terror demon pair and triggering the explosion.

"Fair enough."

The sensation of the shard is different than the mark, it's dull, painful, like a broken bone that hadn't healed right. When the shard interacts with the rift, he grunts in pain, teeth clenched. But at least his mask muffles that, and the shard seems to do its job. And Corvo isn't one to sit down and let others fight. He moves as well, sword poised and ready to finish the job that he never agreed to.

But he does finish it, nevertheless, as he always does. Once the demons are dealt with, he takes a few moments to catch his breath, fishing his crossbow out of the water now that he has the time. His pistol would have been preferable, but he hasn't seen it yet. Hopefully, it'll show up before someone else grabs it.

"I have a job, you know," He tells the strange void woman, as he tries to pick the seaweed off his crossbow. Both it and the sword will have to be washed in fresh water soon, or they'll begin to rust. "He knows I do. He can't just steal me away for...whatever this is."

Glad to have that settled, Korrin returns to devastating the battlefield, summoning meteors, fade-boulders and whatever else she needs to finish them off. More often than not, she'll rely on her spirit blade when one-on-one, trusting it to cut through the hide of whatever's pissing her off by not dying fast enough. She's quick, merciless, and seems to know just what spells have the most devastating effect on the various demonic types.

Deactivating her blade after their essences return to the Fade, Korrin nods in approval at the work accomplished by the new rifter. People who can think on their feet and put their incredulity aside long enough to listen are the ones who will stand the best chance of surviving in Thedas. "Believe it or not, he has nothing to do with this. Well, other than similarly being stuck here. The rifts have drawn in all sorts of people from other worlds, and we don't know how it works or how to send them back. Hell, we're busy just trying to keep this world from falling apart because of them."
