Clan Ashara currently resides in a small valley nestled into the mountains, that seems idyllic for a Dalish clan. A stream runs through the valley, descending into a waterfall with the steep cliffs on one side, and sheer mountain walls going straight up on two other sides. The only way in and out is through a gap big enough to lead several aravels through. It's a defensible position, safe from any threats.

Except the fade rift that has opened up just a little ways from the gap.

The hunters can handle the demons spewing from it well enough, and there are always a couple stationed there to pick off whatever appears. But it's too dangerous to lead the aravels and noncombatants through, and thus, they are forced to wait.

To compound the issue, there's a village close to where they're currently staying, and while both sides have kept to themselves, neither are pleased with the current situation. They've helped get a message to the Inquisition in hopes that someone will come take care of the problem, and now both are tensely waiting for something to happen to change the situation, for better or worse.

And so the members of Clan Ashara, with their friends in tow, return back to their clan.

If Merrick had been arriving alone, he'd have slid in unnoticed-- neglecting to properly reintroduce himself, focusing only on the task at hand until it was time for them to return to Skyhold.

As it is, he causes a slight diversion by showing up with a gigantic qunari.

It's quite impossible to avoid being noticed; Metaari towers over all of the little elves, and they gape and stare at him as the two of them make their way over to the Keeper. Even as the others introduce themselves and chat with Deheune, it's difficult to ignore this unexpected guest.

Merrick doesn't seem phased. He stands upright, expression hard, as if daring anyone to make a comment. Fortunately, most of the other elves seem quite speechless.

Metaari trails after Merrick slightly, trying his hardest to ignore the stares. It gets a bit more difficult, when the open-mouthed gapes happen, but he squares his shoulders and tries his best to keep his gaze forward. At the very least, he doesn't need to try hard to not look; his height alone means so long as he doesn't look down...

He stops when Merrick does and lets out a breath before giving as deep a bow as he can without looking ridiculous. "I am Metaari. I'm glad to be of any help to you that I can."

Was that... good? He hopes that's good. Refraining from making a joke about his own height was probably the hardest thing he's done so far today.

Sam is slower to get off his horse, noting the interactions, followed by a sense of awkward tension. Seeing that everyone is introducing themselves, he quickly dismounts and follows after, glad for the lack of attention on him - poor Metaari - as he walks forward to join the rest.

"Samouel," he says simply with a respectful bow of his head. "Thank you for having us." Now that he's introduced himself, Sam lets out a small sigh, a bit of her nervousness going away now that he's done it.

The Keeper's question isn't really a surprise to Kallian, and she shakes her head.

"Unfortunately, I don't. I know very little about my father. I've never had the chance to meet him."
