[ OPEN ] Take a Break

WHO: Adelaide & The Healers of the Inquisition & friends
WHAT: Informal gathering, refreshments offered.
WHEN: nowish
WHERE: Skyhold, Orlesian Healing Tents
NOTES: Drinking, swearing, bitching about troublesome patients, etc. Announcement post here

It has been a difficult few months for the Inquisition- terrible battles, dangerous missions, strange illnesses. The Healers are well overdue a moment of semi-organized rest and relaxation. Much as she had before on behalf of the mages nearly a year ago, Adelaide takes the time to arrange for said respite. The Orlesian healing tents have been cleared of the potions, bandages, and poultices in favor of chairs, cushions, and braziers. Lanterns and the odd throw of fur or knit wool warm the space. Having more time to settle in and become established- there is more room, more places to sit, more tables propped up for holding glasses and mugs. The space is open, warm, and inviting with an elegant assortment of copper mugs and porcelain cups set around flat side tables arranged with an assortment of teas, honey, and small pots of cubed sugar and carafes of cream bribed from the kitchen. To one side there are bottles of wine and a small keg or two of ale and mead, tankards and glasses waiting. There are dried fruits and hard cheeses, dried meat and hard crusted bread, butter and sausage and a few odd baked tarts here and there. Across the entrance to the tents there is a sign:

Must be a healer or a friend of a healer for entry. Unless urgent (imminent death) no patients will be taken at this time.

Tacked below was a list of rules:
  • NO WORKING
  • Tea and coffee are to the left, wine on the right, food in the center. Please keep things in their proper place.
  • Don't hog the wine
  • Don't hog the tea
  • Don't hog the coffee
  • Don't hog the food
  • Serve yourself and whoever else is waiting for a glass
  • If you finish a bottle open a new one, don't recork it for someone else to find
  • Brew a fresh pot of coffee or tea when you finish what is available
  • Clean up after yourselves

"Are you into that sort of thing now? I do know a good leather worker," he smirked over his wine cup. If you were going to play the blushing game, Sam, you should always be prepared for Kirk to bring his A game.

He grew quiet as he pondered the question. "Well, cats always seemed an ornery type to me, and that reminded me a bit of Leonard. And... and I guess it feels like keeping a bit of them here with me." He shook himself out of the near melancholy, taking another swig of wine. "As for Bones - when we first met, he told me that his wife had left him and left him nothing but his bones. So that's what I called him, kind of as a joke at first, and then it stuck. Plus he's a doctor, so it just worked out neatly that way."

The question has Sam raising a brow curiously to his roommate, not quite catching what he meant. At least until after staring at that smug smirk for a moment, in which Sam promptly does start blushing - but only a little. He was indeed teasing Kirk, but he had not meant it in that way at all.

Course now that thought was in his head... "I don't know," he answers simply to that, keeping his voice low.

Taking another sip of tea as he listens to Kirk speak, Sam smiles softly at the way Kirk talks about his friend. The homesickness is evident in his tone, which only has Sam leaning into Jim more fully, silently offering more comfort. "Do you give everyone you know nicknames?"

It was worth it to see Sam blush. He had a sort of private game going in his head, the essence of which was getting the other to turn different shades of red. The winning blush was the reddest, naturally.

"We'll cover it sometime," he promised, leaving it at that for the sake of propriety at the party. There was getting Sam to blush, and then there was just being uncouth and lewd.

Without thinking he takes the offered comfort, making himself even more comfortable against the other, lulled by heat from his companion and tea and alcohol and good food. "No, not everyone. He was just my first friend in Star Fleet, and is still my best friend."

If they weren't at the party then perhaps he would have continued the conversation, like they usually did when something of the sort came up. Something they could talk about later, one which he's sure Kirk is more then interested to... touch upon. Course now he's having trouble not thinking about Kirk walking around with a leash.

"Sounds like you've done a lot together. Does he work on the Enterprise?"

"He's my CMO - Chief Medical Officer. Basically he runs the entire medical division of my ship, and serves as my personal doctor," he explained. "He's the best in the Fleet, or so I think, and I'm lucky to have him. But you know the funny thing is that he's terrified of space?" He laughed at that, recalling their first conversation, the way he had ranted and raved and yet remained on that ship and gone through the years of training.

"He's saved me more times than I can count, honestly."

"So... kind of like sailing the seas, but being afraid of water?" He doesn't know what space is like, so that is the closest comparison he's got. "How does he manage that?" Sounded like quite the brave person, or just dedicated to his job.

"Saves a lot of lives I bet." Being in charge of medical after all. "Also has his hands full," he says smirking, looking at Kirk at this point - the man was certainly a handful.

"Heh, yeah, that's pretty much exactly it," he nodded. "Complaining, mostly. Focusing on his work. But it makes me respect him, you know? If he's really as afraid as he says, but he still goes out there, still follows me into the unknown..." He trailed off, his fingers tightening around his up cup briefly and sniffing.

"He saved me, more than once. Without him, I wouldn't be here," he said softly, glancing to Sam and smirking again. "I can't deny that. He would reach through space-time and smack me if I did."

"Perhaps you should do just that," he says, grinning back. It is painfully obvious on how homesick Kirk was, and how much he missed his friend, someone he did so much with and probably talked to about everything. "Maybe you should find something here to bring back as a gift? You know, so he isn't so mad with you."

"Hmmm, maybe," he thought, shifting to lean back into Sam once more, looking up at the sky. "Maybe some sort of vintage. Spock might like an interesting rock or gem for study. Hikaru would like a plant. Chekov would probably like some alcohol too or maybe one of your games. Scotty would like just about any device you have," he listed them off.

The list of names and possible gifts has the mage turning every so slightly to look at Kirk better, brow raised curiously. Clearly someone had already been thinking about these sort of things. Course that isn't why his brow is raised - he isn't too sure who these other people are. "Spock? Checkof?"
