seeking knowledge [open]

WHO: Sansa Stark
WHAT: Settling in
WHEN: 11 Harvestmere - the end of the month
WHERE: Around Skyhold
NOTES: Feel free to find her around in another place that her log text doesn't mention, just let me know. Some implied mention of abuse/sexual assault in the Tyrion-Sansa thread but nothing explicit.

Sansa has settled into this place, so much as one can settle into a place where she's dropped from the sky. It's not a terrible one, really, and once she'd been brought to the keep called Skyhold, she'd felt a little better about things. She spends quite a lot of time in the keep. There's great libraries full of books and papers and letters and all of them have information about the place she's landed herself in; Sansa spends most of her days educating herself on the place she's wound up and reads for hours and hours until her eyes are tired and the candles have burned low.

The nights are a bit different. She has stuck close to Lord Tyrion since he's the only person she knows from Westeros, and they have found lodging close to one another. It makes her feel a bit safer, all told, and she just wants to keep close to him for the time being. If he minds it, he hasn't said anything to her, and she's happy to go on as they have.

Currently, she's curled up in a chair in one corner of the keep, one of the journals in her hands. She's trying to learn all about the politics of this place but the names and places keep running together and she doesn't know if she'll ever keep them straight. She wants, desperately, to learn them so she feels like she has a purpose but she knows it won't happen in just a few weeks or even a few moons.

"You have to be patient, Sansa," she mutters, diving back into her work.

Peering at the crystal shard, Kain nods. The shards are of particular curiosity to him for personal reasons, but thus far he's been... reluctant, to admit to anyone that he ended up getting one too. He'd simply been in the wrong place and time. Though the rifters all seem to just... get them, when pulled through.

"That ought to keep you occupied for some time. You must have been with the latest group of arrivals?" He'd heard something about more rifters coming through recently. "I'm new to Skyhold, but not to this world, if you have any questions."

"That canyon- the Western Approach- is among my favorite areas of the world. It's breathtaking, even if dangerous. But most everywhere on Thedas could be considered dangerous."

Some places more than others, of course, and they're safe enough here. But all the same it's important never to drop one's guard. So he's always believed, anyway.

"I'm fond of mountains, so Skyhold suits me. Still... it's a bit too cold here."

"Good. Then you know to be cautious if traveling around outside Skyhold. The people of Thedas can be just as dangerous as the wildlife."

"If you enjoy the cold, then you'll certainly like it here. That must be... a good thing, though... to have some reminder of home in such a foreign world." Kain still can't even imagine what it would feel like, to have no way of returning home. Not that he's been good about going to his true home, but at least he can go there if he chooses, anytime.

"That's a hopeful view to take on being displaced from your world. I doubt I could do the same..." Though he wouldn't know what it's like to be unable to return at all, would he? He could still return home at any time, even if he's been deliberately staying away for so long.

Though his expression hardens, for just a moment. "But you want to be cautious and wary. The Inquisition may be very welcoming, but the same can't always be said for most of Thedas. People are very distrusting toward the unfamiliar."

Toward all outsiders, really. He's heard that some called rifters demons. It's not a universal view, but even so... it's out there.

"Good, that you know to take caution. Especially if you have magic of any sort." It's not easy to tell sometimes, so he figures he'll mention it anyway. Off-world mages are sure to be looked on with as much suspicion as native ones.

He nods slowly. "Even though I only just joined them myself... I've heard a great deal. The Inquisition is one of the most accepting groups in our world. They've been providing sanctuary to all rifters so far, since they started appearing roughly a year ago."
