Player Plot: The Big One?

"Can't say I ever dealt with a dracolisk before but I know my Bucephalus was a challenge." Stroking his beard, he calmly watched the creatures. He didn't know much about the temperament of these animals but so far it seemed that it would be partially a show of strength. Something he could do since he was nearly seven feet tall and with muscles on muscles.

Looking at his two companions he gave them a wide grin. "So, shall we get to this?"

Kirk couldn't rightfully say he had wrangled any animals of this sort before. They had gathered up smaller life forms to send back for study from healthy populations, but nothing nearly this large. The ships would not have been able to handle them, to say the least, but he had certainly spent time running from creatures this large.

"Maybe one of us should try luring them, or at least calming them down. They're not totally wild, right? The food method could work pretty good here."

"No creature can resist food, after all." He may be less familiar with this particular type of mount, but dracolisks, even horses, are all easy enough to coerce with the right snacks. "Even the most skittish of them likely will get curious. These ones seem rather calm right now... if we approach slowly with the food it should work."

Best to take advantage of their seeming calmness and not spoil that. He watches the couple of nuggalopes who are nearest to the group.

"I know I would approach if I saw a delicious treat for me." He laughed cheerfully before he started to get some of the food out to pass some out to his companions. Might as well since his bag was so nice and open, right?

As he did this, he watched the creatures and how they moved, what seemed to make them tense and what relaxed them. The horns looked like they could be something he could latch onto if he had to so that was promising. If nothing else he could at least attempt to use his strength but he fully intended to use that as a last resort since he'd rather just befriend the beasts.

"Shall we divide and conquer as the saying goes? I believe too many of us approaching just one will not be to our advantage here."

Kirk glanced at Iskandar and had to laugh. For such a legend, he was sometimes very childlike. It was hard to believe that had actually conquered most of the known world in his era. Or that he had lived as long as he had doing it with that attitude.

"We should pick ones far off from each other. Or at least, far off that they won't immediately feed off each other's energy if one gets spooked," Kirk suggested, motioning to three that formed a rather large triangle. They could approach from different angles without surrounding any one beast. "And run to someone's help if they need it."

Raising an eyebrow at the cheery manner, Kain accepts the food that Iskandar is passing out. Well. It's not as if they're facing anything horrible here, perhaps he's not wrong to be so lighthearted. The danger is minimal as long as they approach this carefully.

He's been eyeing one of the nuggalopes in particular, somewhat honing in on a target of sorts. He gestures. "In that case, I pick that one." He glances to the creature's fellows as well. If nothing else, they seem very calm and relaxed, even with the strange people around the general area. Good. "I think that can be done. Remember, no sudden movements. Gaining a mount's trust takes patience."

"That is a fine beast." Giving both a grin, he held his own food then slowly made his way toward the creatures. His body language was relaxed. For a man so big he could actually manage to carry himself with a look that was almost gentle. He was careful not to bother the great animals and simply moved towards one that was off to the side, one not already picked out currently.

"Ah what fine beast you are." Holding the food out, he stopped to let the nuggalope get a whiff of the food he held just so that way he could have the attention he wanted before even thinking of taking another step forward. Just to make sure the creature knew he wasn't going to press without permission. At least so far it looked like it was going well on his end!

Kirk was not quite so confident, but he did his best to hide it. Nervousness would be something these animals could sense, and he didn't want to be the one starting the stampede. He really did not need that on his list of accomplishments. He took a bit of food from his pocket and began to approach his own beast, moving slowly, pausing every now and then for them to stare at each other, trying to make himself small and nonthreatening before offering his treat to it.

Kain is confident at first as he slowly but steadily approaches the nuggalope. He doesn't make any sudden movements, trying to put to use his experience with dracolisks to these larger creatures. He definitely looks pleased when the nuggalope approaches... getting closer... then the animal gives a snort and turns away. At least it didn't get agitated, but apparently this is a stubborn one.

"I have food for you and everything... Come on... I know you're interested..." he tries again, still taking his time. The nuggalope is eyeing him uncertainly, but is definitely sniffing the air. Yes, he just has to bide his time. He doesn't hear any commotion from the others yet, so far so good then...

Iskandar took another step forward and went to set some of the food down onto the ground before the beast and took a step back. Let him have a chance to get a sniff of it to see if he wanted any of it. The creature took a moment to blink at him in a fashion one could call lazy. Right before it moved forward to eat the piece. That was a good start. He grinned at the beast then gave a nod before holding out some more.

The animal was interested and moved over to see if that food was really going to be something to eat. Which it turned out to be the case. Iskandar grinned and stood still to let the nuggalope continue to eat. Just like his own horse. Approach carefully and with food. That was how he'd won the trust of his steed. "Good. Enjoy. There will be more if you come with me."
