[Player Plot] Protecting Val Gamord from Darkspawn - Pt 1

WHAT: The Marquise of Val Gamord has called to the Inquisition for help, and the Inquisition has answered.
WHEN: Last week of Harvestmere, first week of Frostfall
WHERE: Val Garmond, in Orlais.

Val Gamord is a small village in rocky hills, surrounded by walls, and presently very cold. Outside the walls, a sizable and semi-organized force of darkspawn has gathered. Reaching the village without passing through the darkspawn requires traveling along a narrow path to reach a small opening in its gates. The main road and entrance to the town are blocked and being battered by darkspawn on a nightly basis.

As noted in the original War Table Operation from DAI, Marquise Bouffon has already committed her handful of personal soldiers to the Inquisition's cause, so the town's only defenses at the moment are its walls and the efforts of the farmers and merchants who have taken refuge there. They'll all be exhausted and incredibly grateful for help. Several will be quarantined and suffering from blight sickness. (Note: They can't be saved; if the team does attempt to put through the Joining, they'll die during the ritual.)

Marquise Effiloche Bouffon will be a gracious host and very thankful for the team's efforts. She will call everyone involved noble a lot, and refer to herself as humble and devout; there will be some apparent truth to that, as her personal home is small and sparsely decorated, for an Orlesian noble's estate. She'll allow the team to stay there if they desire and feed them well. Once the darkspawn have been driven away, she will be particularly eager to see the team leave the town without lingering or asking any further questions. She will permit them to stay at most an additional day before insisting that they leave.

"Well, unfortunately ....we can't send someone to spy on the darkspawn, or infiltrate them. We might have to just be able to do with sighting them from the walls." She bit her lip. "Shutting them off might be a plan - if we can send in a small team to track, and then rig up some sort of explosion to cut off their entrance ..."

"That might be our best bet. I can't say I know anything about explosives, personally, though if you'd like me to place ice mines in addition, I can most certainly do that." Inessa frowns in thought, looking up from the map. "They're going to sense us Wardens anyway, we could use that as a method of distraction. Not to take them all on, of course, but even a moment of that might make a difference, if we time it right."

Kain examines the map, finger tracing around spots that look promising for possibly setting such traps. "Here... perhaps here." He says as he studies it intently.

"Luring them toward where these explosives are rigged could work. Using the element of surprise, as well... we Wardens distract at first, then our non-Wardens could come in for a surprise attack."

She leans over the map, nodding her head. "Lead by a Warden, so they can sense if any of the group is trying to slip behind them. We'll have to be cautious though - send only one or two Wardens and keep the bulk of us on the wall itself."

"I'm willing to volunteer, though I'll go wherever you think is best for this mission." Inessa is as usual the least senior Warden available, and she isn't about to overstep her bounds when it comes to planning or decisions made. Maybe Bethany wouldn't care as much, but Teren might, and Teren is...formidable.

"Likewise, I'm willing to aid in that distraction." He likes the direct approach anyway, so charging in and being part of that would be fine by him. He keeps an eye on the map for a moment, overall feeling more confident now that he's got an idea of the layout of things. "It certainly looks like we have good opportunities to strike at them in such a way."

There's a ... change in Bethany's tone, something more serious than she usually is. A level that comes with no longer following behind, but being at the lead. Firmer, more sure of herself, as she taps the map.

"I'll keep you two back with me - we can provide fire from the walls, Inessa, and Kain can help with moving the barricade in the front."

Inessa sits up a little straighter at that tone, nodding. "Just as long as you're not expecting actual fire; it's best I play to my strengths." Her lips quirk in a brief smile, more than ready to encase them in ice or bury them under hexes.

Kain nods agreement as well, expression as serious as usual as he's ready to follow his senior Warden's orders. They can do this, he's sure of it. But then, he's always itching to get out there and fight. "And my sword is as ready as ever. I believe we have a good chance at succeeding here..."

She looks at the two of them, before her lips twitched upwards, "I prefer if you do, Inessa. Don't worry, I shall toss down enough fire for both of us." She nodded at Kain, "Then we have an idea of what we are bringing to the Marquise, for now. Good."
