[Closed] Camping!
WHO: Iskandar and Waver

WHEN: Early in the month
WHERE: Forests mostly. Probably.
NOTES: Probably just going to be really cute. And more than likely funny in places.

It had been Iskandar's idea for the two of them to go out. Not only for them to spend some time together to figure out how they were to manage things together but also because it could be a good way to get food and herbs and such. People could always use those. They could always use those. So he'd packed them up to go out and ride to a decent camping location where they set up with the tent he'd obtained for the two of them.
It was hardly fancy but it was easily large enough to house the two of them comfortably. The bed rolls were even decent enough to be used together or apart depending on whether or not they were cuddling. Really Iskandar saw no reason for them not to cuddle but one never could tell with Waver. Best to give him the option of space if he desired it.
Setting up the fire for them, he nodded to the pack by his horse. "That will have food we can eat for the night. The meat may be dried but it will fill us well and we can always soften it with broth if you like." He'd brought that too.
Really it was good to have some real alone time with the mage. They honestly did need to get to know each other again, after all. For Iskandar it had been but a couple of months but for Waver many years had passed. It was important for them both to find a path that worked out well.

"Okay. When do we start?"
no subject
He gave him a smile then rose to his feet and gave his head a rub before he went to go looking around for just the right sticks. Sturdy enough for practice without being too heavy to manage. Not to mention too long or short.
no subject
Waver began to lean over towards where the bags were, extending an arm to grab one and drag it over towards him.
no subject
It wasn't as if he had anything to hide in there anyway. Waver was free to look through his things anytime he pleased and Iskandar would find that perfectly acceptable. Such was the life of an open and shameless man.
Finding a pair of sticks, he went to match up some more so they'd be able to have backups should those break. He had about ten before he came back and set them nearby. "What shall we eat?"
no subject
"Depends. Is food in this bag or another? Or are we hunting in the dark?"
no subject
Usually dried food but he'd brought fresher things this time. Some meat and some vegetables. The meat would have to be cooked but that was what the fire was for. Until then they could eat some bread and cheese that he'd brought along as well. It would go well with the wine at least.
no subject
"Soooo you'd also be able to tell me how to cook all of this."
no subject
"Hm? You do not know how to cook?"
Not that he really knew how to either. There had always been food prepared for him. Because he was the King. Royalty got certain privileges.
no subject
There was no use in hiding it, so Waver didn't. His shoulders slumped forward, and he looked to Iskandar, clearly embarrassed. Scarlet was across his face, and there was no pride in his voice.
"No. I never really bothered to learn."
no subject
This...was likely to not end well.
no subject
That was it, that was the end game.
no subject
"Cooking could not possibly be that difficult! People have done it for centuries before either of us lived! Now it is our turn to partake in this knowledge!"
no subject
"Okay, what do you even have in here--?" he said, pulling things out of the bag carefully.
no subject
Dropping his sticks nearby, he went to sit down with him and held up a pot that he'd pulled out. An idea hit him then as he gave a wide grin. "We could make a stew! We have water and we can put it all within this pot to cook! What say you!"
no subject
"We're not going to boil vegetables whole. It is going to take too much time for it to cook otherwise."
no subject
As if he'd only just realized this. Still, it took him a moment to realize what exactly Waver wanted and then he had to fish through his things before handing him one. Not at all a cooking knife but it would work for that anyway.
"I could get us a good rock for preparing food."
no subject
Leave it to Iskandar to only realize that now. Waver shook his head, and began to peel a potato with the knife.
"Long and flat and fairly clean, if you please."
no subject
He laughed as he went to locate a decent enough rock. It wasn't perfect but it would work. Bringing it back, he used some water to start washing it clean of any dirt before setting it up to make it easier for Waver to work on.
"How is this, boy?"
no subject
It was as ridiculous as the rest of Iskandar. Waver gave the rock a moment's look over, then rearranged his position so that he was sitting down with his legs straight out.
"Put it on my lap and I'll take care of the rest."
no subject
Or was just asking too many questions when they were busy. Either was possible really.
Once the stone was cleaned off, he carefully set it down on Waver's lap. "Does that work for you, boy?"
no subject
With the stone, Waver shifted once or twice, then nodded. "That'll do. Pile the veg on one side and pot on the other, please?"
no subject
"Should I prepare meat as you do this?"
no subject
Waver focused on cutting from there on out, making neat piles off to the side of the rock whenever he finished one vegetable or the other. The effect of the whole thing was extremely domestic, and that left Waver at a loss for a moment. There had been the rare day dream about something like this but--
--He shook his head, like that would dislodge the thought.
"You didn't have a lot of time to do this kind of stuff in life, huh?"
no subject
Sitting down, he got out the meat he'd brought with him and started to cut it into chunks, setting it back in what it had been wrapped in as he went. That seemed the easiest thing for them to do. Though he was wondering what salted meat would be like in this soup. Perhaps it would add delicious flavor to it!
