one. what's in a name? (stables)
[Well, its not like he had been expecting anything at all by putting up that notice in the first place. In fact he hasn't so much as brought himself to look at it just yet - especially when he's not too sure what he should prepare himself to see. Either a lot of things, judging by previous incidents, or nothing at all.
But whatever the results are, its not something for him to think about at the moment. What's more important right now is to try and get the dracolisk to stop doing that thing where it decides to sit down like a mabari for some unknown reason.]
No, don't sit down. [He says for what is probably the thousandth time while he attempts to urge it to get back up. It does so, and stays standing as Bruce rounds back to face it from the front. He gives it a look before slowly raising a hand in the universal gesture of stop.]
Now, stay.
[...and the dracolisk sits down again.
Yeah, its going to be that kind of day.]
two. a moment of silence (gardens)
[Working in the gardens is never old. Everyday manages to bring something different for him, sometimes familiar comforts and at other times interesting challenges. Ones on an acceptable level, that is. He never did do well with surprises.
He's busy working on one of the plots today, working on the soil now that the harvest here is done. From tilling to irrigation, Bruce is making sure to pay careful attention to every aspect so that the next batch of herbs that grow have a better chance of making it through and coming out good at the same time.
Through the day one can see him getting down and dirty in the soil, sleeves and pants rolled up so that he doesn't dirty his clothes too horribly. As long as one doesn't mind the dirt, they're welcome to talk to him.]
three. wandering in the darkness (battlements)
[The late nights continue. Keeping busy has helped, but when its quiet and he can hear nothing else but the thoughts in his head they more often than not get too much to handle. So out of his tent Bruce goes and up to the battlements, where by now he's a pretty familiar sight by the night patrol, and some of them even greet him as they pass by.
On some nights he's simply walking around and watching the stars, but on others he might be sitting in a corner somewhere and brewing his potions. It's a weird habit, he knows, but it helps to keep him calm and focused, and that's what he needs right now.]
wildcard.
[Feel free to throw in your own prompt or PM/contact me to plot out stuff!]

[He continues cautiously letting the dracolisk sniff, before just as carefully reaching a hand to attempt lightly patting the dracolisk.]
Name him for someone you admire, perhaps? A great person in history? Or something fierce, that will exemplify the sort of noble, strong creature he is. [He's not a dracolisk nerd or anything, nope, not at all.] What's his personality like? That may help too.
no subject
Bruce manages not to make a face at the suggestions. Somebody he admired... yeah, no. A great person is history? No to that, too. And that last one--all it takes for him is to remember the incident earlier this morning to dissuade him of that idea. Noble is the last thing this particular dracolisk is.]
Well, it's stubborn. [The standard answer Bruce has by now.] That's the best thing I can say about it.

[Kain continues petting the dracolisk fondly, taking his time to stroke and scratch just so, knowing what most of their kind are fond of. He's been around enough of them to have a good enough idea, anyway.]
Perhaps a name that's solid and firm, something to do with rocks? Or a type of metal...
no subject
The dracolisk on the other hand is very pleased with the attention its getting (since Bruce doesn't give much of that). It snorts loudly and flicks its ears and tail, pressing its head more firmly against Kain.
Bruce sees that for several seconds before stifling down a sigh.]
Do you have any particular suggestions in mind?
no subject
They really are fantastic creatures... [He murmurs it to himself, musing quietly as he admires the dracolisk. Then he comes back to the moment, pondering.] Lazurite? Drake? Stormheart? There are some good constellations that make for good names... Draconis, Judex, Peraquialus...Satinalis... Belenas...
no subject
Drakonis?
[He doesn't say it quite right though, having not heard it clearly.]
no subject
[He takes a quick glance at the dracolisk. It's one thing to be able to stand using the name, but the animal must agree to it too.]
Well, and that he does, as well.
no subject
Bruce thinks about it for a moment, and eventually he shrugs.] It's simple and people won't question it. [Seems good enough to him.]
no subject
That would be a worthy name. Draconis. It's strong like him, and dracolisks bear such a resemblance to dragons that it seems rather fitting. Things will definitely improve with him named, you'll see.
no subject
I'll think about it some more, but I think this one works enough for everyone involved.
no subject
Draconis... you may well live up very well to that name, won't you, boy? [He smiles, then nods at Bruce. He loves these creatures so much.] Even if you don't use this one, it's a good start... I look forward to hearing what you ultimately decide. You're off to an even better companionship with him now.
no subject
But that's a matter best left untouched. Bruce gives a small nod in return.]
Thanks. [...he supposes.]

[Kain would gladly devote time to helping out all the local dracolisks, ensuring they're all well cared for and bonding well with their riders. It would be the least he could do.]
no subject
[Bruce... is probably not going to take him up on that offer but hey, who knows. Things might change in the future.]
