A. It's a new dog!
He'd been wanting one since first seeing the mabari. Now he had one of his own. A fine pup who tended to spend much of his time tripping over his own feet but was ever eager to be with and please the large man. Really he'd been told that an older dog would be recommended but they'd laid eyes on each other and that had been that. After all, once that bond was formed there simply was no going back.
And so one could find him with a puppy in one of the more open areas. They were training and it seemed that the puppy was at least rather intelligent at picking up on things! So long as Iskandar used his native tongue for the commands, something he'd decided to do just to solidify their bond further.
"Heh. What a clever boy you are, my Achilles Alexander!" The pup gave a bark and then happily ate up the piece of meat that he was given. And yes, Iskandar sure had named this dog after himself.
B. Training is important
The best way to perfect how one used their adjusted powers was to, well, use them. So he was around the training grounds to work with the couple of them that he felt could safely be done here. Name the teleportation and invisibility ones. So it was easy enough to spot him standing in one location only to reappear in another. At times he frowned and rubbed his beard as he considered what he'd been doing before trying again.
One could feel free to interrupt him though. He wasn't needing the concentration to do this really.
C. Memories rise to the surface
There were times when even Iskandar needed a moment to reflect, to think on the sadder days. Though he never regretted any of them that hardly meant they didn't weight on his heart. Many had been lost under his command or had given up much to follow him. Then there were times when he remembered Hephaestion and how perhaps he would never see him again. Or that his son would be someone he'd never lay eyes on.
So he was in the gardens with a kitten and a mabari pup curled up together on his lap. Both were sound asleep as if they'd been playing hard until that moment. He smiled down at them fondly, stroked their soft ears as he admired their pure innocence.
"It has been long since I had your purity, little ones."

"Precisely. It's not difficult or complicated to apply, and given that we are on the border of Ferelden, the material itself is easy to acquire. Fereldan's canine warriors are quite popular, after all."

Of course the puppy was busy with his new big friend. Putting his paws on him, he seemed to be trying to climb on top of him to get at his head. Apparently to bite at his ear to encourage him to play with him. What better way to ask for playtime than to bite an ear right? Iskandar knew that the pup meant well and that Garahel was well trained and would bring him no harm. So he said nothing and instead just chuckled at the antics.
"When he is bigger I think he will provide a better companion to your good Garahel. As it is now I think we can be amused at his desire to try."

Inessa laughs and nods. "Oh believe me, he doesn't mind your pup just as he is now. I took him to see the new mabari litter last year, and you never saw such enthusiasm. He seems to love the energy of the very young, though if I'm honest, he's never entirely lost it himself."
no subject
"After all, we have no need to encourage what is already happening here. Apparently they are quite content to figure it out on their own!"
no subject
She shakes her head, a rueful smile on her lips. "This is perfect; with the company of another, they'll tire themselves out easily enough. It will only be easier as her grows and Garahel can be a little less gentle with him."
no subject
"He is a feisty one though when he is allowed. I find myself very fond of it. It shows potential for him to be a strong warrior at my side." Iskandar was practically puffing his chest with pride over his newest little friend who had fallen over from tripping over his own feet. The pup blinked in surprise before forgetting about being startled and went back to playing with the ear again. Rawr! He'd get that ear!

And Garahel is happy to do it, though for now his focus remains on the pup. He doesn't attempt to stop the fixation on his ear, just wiggling it slightly to keep attention focused there. And then, because he can, his large tongue shoots out to give the pup a big lick. "Oh, I believe it. Mabari are completely capable in battle when trained, and even before they have that innate talent. Tevinter knew what they were doing when it came to magical breeding, at least, though I'm glad the mabari had better taste than to remain with them."

Iskandar burst out laughing, unable to even think of how to respond to her words for a moment. "My little friend! I think what you seek is much closer than you realize!"
no subject
The mabari huffs in response and rolls back onto his feet, circling the pup...and then striking again from behind. All the licking!

"So fierce a warrior you are! How shall Garahel manage against the might of you!"

Iskandar chuckled and took the ball. Making sure Garahel could see it, he gave it a good toss so that way the mabari could fetch it for them.
