This is it. Kain has been taking all of Maja's advice to heart, when it comes to preparing for griffon-riding. He's been coming by daily to feed and groom Potato and just spend time bonding with her in general. Between him and Inessa, this is becoming one spoiled griffon. He's gotten a lot of trust from Potato over the past few weeks, and learned to trust her in return. Now it's time to start training in the air.
Kain mounts Potato with ease, getting comfortably settled on her. He feels much like a Warden of old when upon her like this, and he straightens with a touch of pride in his posture.
"All right, Potato... let's go!"
Up and away they fly! This is strictly for training purposes, of course, the same as he would do with any mount. But whenever he ascends skyward, Kain breaks out into a rare grin. Yes, this... this is where he belongs. Where he's always wanted to be all along, soaring through the air, wind in his face, with the ground so far below. Anyone observing from the ground will notice them circling through the air, practicing various maneuvers. After a while, they come back down to take a break somewhere in the area surrounding Skyhold... (or maybe even occasionally to perch on one of the taller towers).
Where will she land? Anywhere a griffon can go! Sometimes, it's a bit of a surprise landing, coming down right next to someone very suddenly. Sometimes, Potato catches a small animal on the run, swooping in to snatch it with her talons. Maybe she even comes in to slash at an enemy of some kind, helping someone in a fight. Anything is possible!

"So peaceful... and so freeing!" He's always sure to keep his voice loud enough to be heard over the rushing winds. "Nothing can compare to this... I love this... I love her..." He means Potato of course, who seems to be enjoying this just as much as them. "Want to practice some maneuvers?" They're both only learning, of course, and Kain plans to spend more time researching moves from old Warden writings. But there's some fun circling around they can do...

"Of course. There's no time like the present to begin practice. Something simple, to start?" Whatever Kain has in mind, Inessa will try to nudge him to begin small. They're still new to this.

He's taking full advantage of all of this. Griffon riding is nothing like what was written about in the books. No, it's far, far better than words could ever convey. Still, he's gotten ideas, things to try out. He leans close to direct Potato. "Ready... Attack below!"
The griffon cries out enthusiastically as she swoops downward, descending rapidly from the sky. There's nothing there, really, and Kain gives the command to return skyward just as her talons start to snap at the ground below. She's incredibly fast, and her coordination makes it all the more impressive.

"Impressive, Potato! She's so wonderfully graceful in the air, isn't she?"

"Watch this... Potato! Try out that loop we practiced!"
This is something much newer, but he wants to show off. They move into position, then with a joyful screech, Potato goes into action, looping around in the air.

"Just think what else we'll be capable of with more practice! She's adapted well to two riders..." That's good to see in itself, good knowing they could both ride when the time comes to go into battle.

As he shouts the question to her, she screeches back in the affirmative as she starts flying onward. Kain shouts out more, letting her know of the exact direction to take. She responds in kind.

"You're welcome, Inessa... I'm... it... it just..." He breaks off, feeling oddly emotional and sentimental right now. "It means so much that you enjoy being here, in my favorite place to be..." He's always known he belongs in the sky, now it's certain, and he loves every moment of this. Having Inessa be part of it makes this even better.
