Iskandar had been keeping track of the days to figure out when it would like up for Waver's time of birth as well. So when he found out that this was the day, he gathered up their meals so that way they could spend time together. His gift was back in Kirkwall but he could improvise.
Finding the mage, he grinned at him then went to go sit with him, handing over his meal.
"Boy, do you know what this day is?"

He grinned at him proudly then pulled out a stack of papers from his coat. Half were in Ancient Macedonian. The other half were in English. Both were the same poem of a man and King riding together along the beautiful shores of Okeanos.
"Your true gift must wait until our return but I wrote this for you in the meantime. In both the languages of our native lands so you might have them in either form."

He took the papers carefully, opting for the English first. His ancient Greek was rusty, although when he did get to that iteration, Waver had to admit, it sounded and read better.
When he had finished, Waver couldn't look up at Iskandar. He was too red in the face and too overcome. "You don't have to give me anything else."

With that he gave the shoulder a squeeze before nodding to the food. "I wish to eat with you. You can tell me how you would like to celebrate properly when we get back. I imagine you wish for just the two of us to do something so tell me what it shall be."

At least the mention of celebration snapped him back to reality.
"Jeez, I think I need that much time to think. It's been a while since I really celebrated my birthday aside from taking the day off and having it to myself."

He laughed softly and took a bite of the food he'd brought. Not bad really. Certainly he tended to look for better in Kirkwall but sometimes rations were what they had to deal with. It was part of going on missions.
"But do you have a small idea of what you'd like to do?"
no subject
"Maybe just doing this again?" he suggested, eyes still downward. "Sorry, I...just prefer not making a big deal out of it, you know?"

As social as he was, he actually did genuinely delight in smaller and more intimate times with those he loved. Waver was a good example of that. The mage usually preferred those and he certainly enjoyed them with him.
"It is your day of birth. Therefore it is your day to decide how it is celebrated."
no subject
"Thanks for understanding."
Back home, Reines generally did back off, after he swung by to harass him for a few hours and make his life that much more....more. "I appreciate it."
no subject
He gave him a fond look. Perhaps their relationship was different from his lovers but there was no denying he adored Waver.
"After all, you should be spoiled even if it is but a meal not made by you."

"That wine braised chicken from a few nights before we left was pretty good," he said. "I don't know where that came from, but I wouldn't mind having it again."

"Please. A bottle each, I think?"
