ssssssomeBODY ONCE TOLD ME
WHAT: Monthly shenanigans for the month
WHEN: Throughout the month of Harvestmere
WHERE: Throughout Kirkwall
NOTES: Minor violence
A) Stalker in the Gallows
Errands in the Gallows had started off solo, but at some point in the afternoon, Prompto realizes he isn't alone.
A black cat with white paws stalks him as he went out and about his business, running reports to and fro. And everywhere he goes, the cat trots behind him. At first, Prompto figures the cat would get bored and run back home, but after about an hour of this going on, he realizes that didn't seem to be the case.
Finally he stops to face the feline, brow raised as it comes to a stop, tail swaying as it looks up at him. "You lost there, buddy?"
It meows.
He bends down and holds out his hand, letting the cat walk up and take a tentative sniff before it rubs its face against his hand. Aww, cute kitty. Prompto scratches its ears, smiling as it purrs. All the while, though, he looks around, wondering whose cat this was. "Anyone missing a cat? Think this one got lost." Seems friendly enough, at least, which makes him think it was a house cat and not feral.
He didn't know it yet, but he's now a pet owner. The cat chose, and it's chosen him.
B) Tension in Lowtown
So, glares and mutters as people turn away aren't uncommon, but these days, it seems to have gotten worse. What used to be just poorly concealed looks of suspicion have turned to outright disdain, and he's been refused service more than once. It stings, but Prompto chalks it up to just uneasiness. Maybe something went down that he's not aware of.
Normally the natives aren't violent, just cross. But things turn sour one night when Prompto tries to enter a tavern for a quick drink and bite to eat. Before he can even enter, some drunk patrons loitering outside spot him. One grabs him by the shoulder and shoves him back. "They don't serve your kind here. And you ain't wanted anyway."
"Just a guy who wants a drink. Don't know what you-"
The man surges forward and shoves him again, this time hard enough to send him to the ground. "I know what you are, you festerin' demon scum! Take another step and I'll knock your bloody ass back to the Fade where you crawled out of!"
Prompto glares at him, looking torn between just walking away and standing his ground. Help him decide?
C) Drinks in a Non-Shitty Tavern
Eventually he finds a tavern that's not full of shit people. Or maybe they just don't know he's with the Inquisition. Whatever the reason, Prompto finally manages to have a drink in peace. He leans his head in his hand, swirling his drink round in the glass before taking another sip. He's taken a shine to the ale served around Kirkwall. Or maybe his taste buds have gone so dead he doesn't mind anymore. It could really be either or.
He's sitting alone, and being an extrovert, Prompto is always in want of company. If he knows you and spots you, he'll grin and wave you over, lifting his drink in invitation.

"Mmm, yeah. I could go for food! I had a quick bite to eat earlier, but I wouldn't call it much of a dinner." Two bread rolls definitely don't count as dinner. "Oh, I love dogs! And I just unexpectedly became a cat owner the other day, so, all good with cats."
no subject
"Well that's good, since they'll probably be all over you when we get to my place." Hearing that Prompto now had a cat, Sam raises a brow with a grin. "Really? How did that happen?"
no subject
"Let them at me." Dog kisses are the best okay. "Well, basically he just started following me around the Gallows one day and he hasn't left since."
no subject
"Picked you out of the crowd, huh?" He chuckles lightly at that, remembering the time he had gotten his cats. "I suppose my situation wasn't much different. Back in Skyhold, Nikita and Leonard were kittens and found a way into my lap; ended up taking them home with me afterwards. Maker, the look on Jim's face when all he wanted to do was crawl into bed and it had been taken over by kittens." He laughs a bit harder at that.
no subject
"Something like that. Hopefully Noct thinks he made the right choice." Prompto laughs with him as he tells his story. He can absolutely picture the look on Kirk's face, to want to sleep only to find a bed covered in kittens. "Poor guy. Though, I mean, that's kind of a good problem to have."
no subject
"I take it that Noct is what you called your cat?" he inquires just as he takes a turn and stops before a door. He doesn't wait for an answer as he fishes out a key and takes a few moments to open the entrance. Holding the door open Sam motions for Prompto to enter. "Come on in."
The entrance isn't grand, the hallways immediately leading to a storage room, closet, and stairway to the right, and the wall on the left opening up to the kitchen. Straight ahead the room opens up into a dining and living space with a fireplace, which is also open to the kitchen.
no subject
"Yeah! He's, uh, named after my best friend back home. Similar personalities and all. Plus, Noctis is a huge animal lover. Er, the human Noctis, I mean. Jury's still out on Kitty Noctis." So far the cat seems amicable enough, at least to Prompto.
He enters, thanking Sam before craning his head and taking a look around. Eight months in Thedas, and sometimes he's still not used to how different everything looks than from back home. Regardless, he nods in appreciation. "Nice place. Seems cozy enough."
no subject
"Ah, you named him after someone you know as well." Jim had named Leonard after someone on his ship if he remembered correctly. He supposed it was a way to keep connected to a home you couldn't get back to - yet. "Well you could always bring him here to test that out if you so wish, or if he needs company while you're away. Actually that's how I got roped into getting two." Well that was half the truth - part of it was he didn't have the heart to say 'no' to either one.
"Thank you," he says, locking the door before moving past Prompto towards the living area. After just a glance he heads over to the fireplace to feed it another log. "I hope it seems cozy. We kind of splurged a bit to buy a lot of things we couldn't have before due to space or money. Three of us live here so it's a little bit of all of us here."
no subject
"Seemed kind of fitting. If Noct ever actually shows up here, might be kind of awkward to explain, but ah well." Chances of that are slim to none, Prompto reckons. "What cat was named after who?" Pause. "Or is it whom? I can never remember..." ANYWAY, the question still stands, grammatical query aside. "Yeah, that would work! I'm sure I'll need a cat sitter at some point, but it'd be good to introduce him to other people and all, right?" Make some friends, get used to other people, all that jazz.
"Did you guys move in right away? I know I would have if I had been stuck in those Skyhold rooms for long." The Gallows still feel a little claustrophobic at times, but at least they're not super cramped and he can get out and about in the city to escape.
no subject
No sooner had Sam said the name there was a noise from upstairs, a thud as something seemed to bounce into a wall before scampering down the stairs and running directly to him. "And this would be her," he chuckles, reaching down to pet her. She seems content by it for a moment up until she notices Prompto and immediately runs at him with the same energy, looking for attention all the while sniffing at him.
"Skyhold wasn't bad for us. I had a loft above the armory back there. It wasn't big, but certainly a lot more space then most had. Kirk ended up living there with me after a while... so it made sense when we came here we shared a room at the Gallows. I put up with it, but I honestly hate being there more then I need to be. We had to wait a couple months before the Inquisition gave us permission to find elsewhere, and when we did we found something quickly. I'm rather happy with what we got."
no subject
"So you and Kirk, huh?" Grin. D'aw, that's cute. Making a mental note to find things to tease them about because that's how Prompto rolls. "Yeah, the Gallows can be downright unsettling, and that's coming from someone who wasn't part of the history there. It's getting better, but sometimes you find stuff."
no subject
With Jaylah occupied and Prompto looking pleasantly distracted from previous events, Sam walks past into the kitchen and starts pulling out things to get a meal started. Setting some cheese and bread to the side for them to snack on, Sam hums lightly. "Me and Kirk," he confirms. "Me and Cyril as well," he adds. He's not sure if Prompto has met Cyril yet, but honestly he would be surprised if Cyril hadn't already introduced himself; that thought has him giving a short huff.
no subject
He starts nodding as he confirms him and Kirk, but his eyes widen briefly when he tacks on him and Cyril. No, he hasn't met the elf (yet. But boy would he make an impression when he does). Oh, they're in a poly relationship. To his knowledge, he never met anyone in one, but hey, there's a first for everything! "Sounds like a happy arrangement. Are he and Kirk a thing, too, or are they both just with you?"
no subject
"Hmmm," he hums in thought. "I- don't think Cyril and Kirk are a thing, but they certainly enjoy each others' company." Certainly friends with benefits.
no subject
"That's good that they get along. Love triangles are fun to read about, but probably not so much fun to actually live out," he comments, standing up and stretching. He can't imagine how he juggles two boyfriends. Then again, he's never had one himself, or a girlfriend, so he's in no position to talk. "Do you need any help?"
no subject
Having toned arms and decent upper body strength. Course in Kirk's case it's having nice glutes. At least that's what he would say if he was honestly asked. His boyfriends definitely have 'tastes'. Speaking of-
Sam pauses for a moment when the question is asked, knife in hand poised over the bread. After a moment he puts the knife down and turns to Prompto with an amused raised brow. "With Cyril or Jim? Aren't you forward." He grins; he knows that isn't what he meant, but considering he asked that right after talking about love triangles and his current relationships, it's hard not to tease Prompto on that.
no subject
"Uh - I - whoa, no no no no. Nothing like that!" How did he walk straight into that one. How?? This is what he gets for not specifying things more. Mark his words, he is going to spell out everything in detail from now on. "I meant - in the kitchen. Making the food. The food!" His voice may have just cracked a little. Bahamut's breath, he just wants to crawl into a hole and die. "I am, uh..." Nervous chuckle. "I'm the last person who'd be offering advice for anything like that. Or help."
no subject
At seeing how Prompto turns bright red and starts to stumble with explaining what he actually meant, Sam cannot help but give a short bark of laughter. He felt just the teeniest bit of guilt for doing it, but the reaction had been rather endearing. Honestly it was very similar to how he used to react to such things - still did sometimes - and now he could really understand why some people like Cyril and Kirk went out of their way to get such a reaction.
"Sorry, I couldn't resist," he says, still chuckling. "I know you meant the food, that you weren't actually propositioning for... anything like that. Good delivery though if you were." Which again he knows you weren't Prompto, but it was real smooth.
"Sure. If you want to cut the bread I'll get the meat out to cook."
no subject
"Ha, it's okay. My buddies back home liked to tease me and get a reaction when they could as well. Just didn't see it coming at all." Now that he knows Sam likes to tease, or so it appears, he'll hopefully be more prepared in the future for it. "But now I got a good line if I ever want to... proposition... someone..."
Riiiiight, that'll be happening anytime soon.
Giving the dog one last pat on the head, Prompto heads into the kitchen. "Sure thing!" Cut bread? No problem. Just... don't ask him to do any actual cooking. Prompto takes hold of - what he's assuming - is the bread knife and begins cutting into it.
no subject
"You might want to think of a different line though, that might be too subtle or doesn't work without something to work off of." There's still an edge of teasing to the words, but it's definitely being offered as advice considering he noticed the hesitation to Prompto's words. "It's alright to be nervous you know, about those things," he says a moment later with a warm smile. "Go at your own pace; don't feel like you need to rush or be rushed by someone." And he's saying this from experience.
After saying that Sam moves to a cupboard and pulls out some salted beef. "Do you want potatoes or something else for a side?"
no subject
Prompto smiles a bit at Sam's reassurance, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "Thanks. I'll try not to hurl myself at anything." Says the guy who develops mini crushes a dime a dozen but won't do anything about any of them, in particular the one ACTUAL crush he has.
"Oooh, potatoes sound good. That's one thing I'm glad Thedas has in common with my world. Probably curl up in a ball and cry if I went potato-less."
no subject
The whole comment about the potatoes has the mage blinking and looking done at the brown lump in his hand. So they had potatoes where Prompto was from and it was called the same thing; interesting. "Really? Cry over a potato? Think I'd be more upset if I ended up in a place where they didn't have any meat."
