WHO: Anyone who wants to come!
WHAT: Cyril plans a surprise party for Sam and Kirk
WHEN: This Saturday
WHERE: Sam and Kirk's home
NOTES: This is the party Cyril started planning here. I'm going to include two header comments for prep before the party, and for Kirk and Sam to come home so everyone can enjoy the 'Surprise!' moment, otherwise, please treat this like a normal mingle post, put in your characters enjoying the party and tag around!

Cyril was pleased with how many had wanted to help with this party. Christine had offered to distract both Kirk and Sam. Adasse had put together some tasty potatoes. Korrin had arrived to help arrange furniture to use the space better for a crowd and had brought spiced wine and sweets. Anders had helped with decorations.

They had done well, even with the food shortage, and the house smelled inviting thanks the the work of everyone coming together.

"Well met, Cyril."

He smiles and sketches a quick bow.

"I don't think we have met before now. You must be good friends with Jim?"

"I'm much more attached to Sam, but Jim and I are friends, yes." He looks over at Sam for a moment, just making sure he's having fun and being social, before returning his attention to Elros.

"And you? Which do you know? Or are you just here to celebrate? The more the merrier, of course."

"Jim and I had a snowball fight." Elros grins. "And yadda yadda always polite to recognise a good opponent or something."

"I don't think I've met Sam before!"

"Oh, you should! He's a real sweetheart," Cyril replies, smiling widely. The more he speaks to Elros the more he likes him. He's very approachable, the kind of guy you could easily see yourself having a drink with.

Which, Cyril supposed as he sipped at his wine, he was doing right now.

"Jim and I are his lovers," he explains, filling Elros in on the relationships here. He knows some people have to process the idea of polyamory and he's curious how Elros will see it. "This is technically their house, but I have a room here."

Elros would be glad to know that, as he makes an effort to be more approachable than his elven cousins.

"What, both of you?" He says confusedly.

Cyril nods and smiles in a knowing kind of way. "That's right. Both of us. We share him."

"How... does that even work." Elros says, clearly very confused. "Not the... details. You know. But... don't you get jealous?"

Cyril seems patient with his confusion, though gentle in the way that he waves away the concerns. "No. I know that people describe that emotion and claim it should be attached to romance, but I just don't really experience it myself. If anything, I feel very happy when I see the two of them together. Knowing someone I care so deeply for is happy makes me happy." Then, after a moment in which he considers Kirk. "It helps that Kirk is a good man, who wants to do right by those around him."

He shakes his head slowly.

"Well, I suppose if you're all happy...." He says dubiously. "It just seems very strange, to me."

Cyril shrugs at that. "I admit that most seem a little confused by it, but it works for us."

Then, after a moment, he offers a small smile. "At least we're not doing it behind each other's backs?"

Elros blinks, and then snorts laughter.

"Hah! Good point. There is that! Well I suppose, it's not my business, even if I really don't see how it would work - clearly, it works for you."

He nods. "Honestly, I don't think any other way would work for me. I'm really lucky to have found someone who understands that." He doesn't really understand how people do monogamy.

Where Elros is from a culture where sex = soul bond = marriage for life.

"I think we're very different in that regard, as I really can't see how multiple partners would work!"

Cyril chuckles a bit. "That is one of the joys of interacting with those from other worlds, hm? We can see different view points."

Then, after a moment, "Thranduil explained a bit about how bonding worked in your culture to me before... Uh, assuming you are from his same realm? You look the part, but I shouldn't assume."

Elros grins wryly.

"I suppose I can't really deny the family resemblance. But we are... uh... the relation is rather distant, but "Cousins" is close enough. I believe we share a common... great-grandparent?"

Cyril smiles at that, pleased that he had guessed right.

"Well, my point was that Thranduil explained to me some time ago that marriage and love are a soul bonding for your people. That once you are with someone you are with them, for eternity. I..." He trails off, and looks off into the direction where Sam is. "I can't imagine what that might be like, but then there is so much I can't imagine when it comes to what it is like to be one of your people. Maybe once upon a time we were as you are, but that was lost, along with so much else."

He feels that sense of loss deep in his bones sometimes. It had been overwhelming for a long while whenever he spoke with Thranduil or Galadriel - and it had taken him a long time to get over the awe of being near them.

He doesn't want to bring down the mood too much though so he looks over at Elros and smiles slyly. "Though perhaps we were not nearly as tall." He is rather small and short himself, and all of the elves from their realm seem so tall and regal. He'd need massive platforms to even match that.

Elros shrugs.

"Well, I don't know if that will apply to me, any longer." He says thoughtfully. "Since I chose otherwise. But yes, I have been told it is... something very special. Risky, in war, but useful too. Bonded pairs are deadly on the battlefield, but kill one and the other might well follow. Maglor and Maedhros used to always try and keep them in separate units, if they could. Cousin Gil-Galad does too."

He smiles wryly at Cyril. "I don't think you're any less. Just different, that's all. But the height, it's not always that great you know! Especially on a ship."

As Elros describes the bonded pairs, Cyril can imagine the benefits and downfalls easily enough. He is curious about the names that Elros mentions, but he doesn't ask just yet.

Instead, he focuses on the mental image of being that tall on a ship.

"I can only imagine. For my part, I have to worry about people stepping on me."

"I learnt to duck very quickly." Elros agrees, wryly.

"Hah! You aren't that short. Fairly average, I would have thought!"

Cyril chuckles a bit. "Perhaps I just spend my time around people who are much taller than I."

Elros laughs. "You should take them all out sailing and laugh as the sail swats them."

Cyril finds that he really likes the sound of Elros's laughter.

"Oh no, I've done enough sailing. I'd almost be happy to never have to do it again."

"Ah a landlubber." Elros sighs in mock disappointment.

"You're missing out on the opportunity to laugh!"

He chuckles. "I'm almost certain I can find ways to laugh here."

"But none involving people walking into low beams?"
