WHO: Anyone who wants to come!
WHAT: Cyril plans a surprise party for Sam and Kirk
WHEN: This Saturday
WHERE: Sam and Kirk's home
NOTES: This is the party Cyril started planning here. I'm going to include two header comments for prep before the party, and for Kirk and Sam to come home so everyone can enjoy the 'Surprise!' moment, otherwise, please treat this like a normal mingle post, put in your characters enjoying the party and tag around!

Cyril was pleased with how many had wanted to help with this party. Christine had offered to distract both Kirk and Sam. Adasse had put together some tasty potatoes. Korrin had arrived to help arrange furniture to use the space better for a crowd and had brought spiced wine and sweets. Anders had helped with decorations.

They had done well, even with the food shortage, and the house smelled inviting thanks the the work of everyone coming together.

It occurs to him a moment later that perhaps a handshake isn't recognized, having met a few others who had puzzled over it as well, but before he can think of changing the greeting he finds himself in a firm grip. A little surprising at first, but it reminds him a little of the Avvar a bit, which has his smile returning. "Well met," he repeats back.

So he knew Jim. How they met seems a little unclear, but at the mention of snowballs, Sam gives a snort and a slight shake of his head. "Yeah. Actually I do. It didn't happen to be colored snow?" he asks, remembering back to having a shade of periwinkle or something on his shoulder and stomach for a while.

"Yes, I suppose I am, though mine is still yet to pass. Soon though. And don't worry about it. I take it you're not from around here, and we are just meeting for the first time, so... wouldn't expect you to."

"Can snow be colored?" He asks curiously. "But no, unless you count the fact that the snow around the impromptu ice rink was rather grey with slush!"

But when one falls and there is a handful RIGHT THERE occasionally the temptation is too great.

"Ah well!" He grins. "That just means I have enough time to try and work out what you might like!"

"Mm. Last year we had a snowfall fight and had different colors for each team. Jim certainly took advantage of it." The mention of grey snow has Sam giving a nervous chuckle. "I personally wouldn't count that... and would honestly be careful with that since it is Kirkwall." It wasn't like Skyhold where things were a bit more clean.

"Well, I would like to know your name?" He grins slightly, tilting his head with a mix of amusement and curiosity. Probably a good start for both of them to exchange names first.

"No one ate any, I promise."

He blinks and then groans. "Ai! What terrible manners on my part! My apologies. Elros, at your service!"

"I would certainly hope not. I was worried enough that you two might have touched it..." He trails off, not really wanting to imagine them even eating grey snow.

"Don't be. Must have been distracted by all the charm," he says with an amused snort. "Or at least I'm sure that is what my two companions would say. Elros... So where do you hail from?"

Elros shrugs wryly.

"We were all falling over into it, at that point! Well, those of us unable to stay on our feet on the ice."

He smiles back.

"Maybe! I'm one of the Rifters, I suppose that bit is obvious - my world is Arda, and I'm from Numenor, specifically - not that I expect you to know those!"

"Yeah, I would say you kind of stand out." Didn't need the shard to guess that really. "And, no, can't say I know of either. I take it that Thedas is pretty different then where you come from?"

"I can't help the height!" He laughs.

"Aye it is - similar in some ways, but very very different in most."

Sam laughs a bit as well, hand rubbing at his neck. "I suppose not, but just agreeing that it is kind of obvious." It wasn't just the height though, there were plenty of people who were pretty tall, including him, but besides that it was just hard not noticing someone like Elros.

"Oh? What things are similar?"

[personal profile] tar_minyatur 2018-01-24 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm. Well the standard of living is... probably about what I'd expect, for a town of Men? A little poorer than the places I knew, but better than some of the Hill Tribes of my own world. And by and large, the peoples here are... not that dissimilar in their basics, although we don't have magic, or any ... rift. Things. Also, the politics remains a massive headache, but I suspect that would be true in any world. Although I haven't seen anyone here start a civil war over a bride price yet!"

"Men?" he asks, head tilting just slightly, clearly not understanding. "There are women and children here as well."

He gets the gist of 'hill tribes' and he certainly can understand that politics, no matter where you come from can be a headache. The magic bit though, certainly stands out. "You're from a realm that doesn't have magic either, huh? Ah, well, I mean, Jim says there isn't anything like magic where he comes from as well."

Elros waves his hand apologetically.

"Not Men as in male, you know, but as in the people. Elves and Men and Dwarves, that's how we call ourselves, in Arda, the Eruhini, as opposed to the Aniur, the powers of the world.

He frowns thoughtfully.

"Not the way they seem to have it here. There are things we can do that are like magic, I suppose. But nothing on the sort of scale that I've seen folk do here. And we don't consider it that. Magic is something the Dark Lord's servants do."

"Ah." Alright, that made a bit more sense; Man being human. Course now he isn't sure what this other part was about. Eruini and Anur? Probably not something to delve into during the party though.

"What do you mean that it's like magic? And so... magic is a bad thing in your word? Or just used by bad people?" Questions questions.

Elros taps a finger thoughtfully.

"Well...it's a definition thing? I guess? I've seen Maglor raise a river in spate, or call a fog or spin sleep. Here, people would probably call that magic. But in Arda, we'd call that Art, because he doesn't work against the world, only within it. He asks nicely - the world could always refuse. Necromancy, now...that's forcing your will on the world against it's natural inclinations. That's magic. And that's the Enemy's work.
