The First Few Days

The first few days, James just worked in a way that most would read as him having something on his mind. Pel had left, Beleth had been walking around with a mark from someone else's mouth on her neck, so naturally he would be working harder. It showed, too. The armory was in pristine shape, and new weapons and armory were starting to appear with a distinctive leather finery that had not been there before.

The templars were set in shining and perfect order - and the Inquisitions soldiers were put through their paces. He also helped the Chantry sisters clean up the altar of Andraste. Lighting the candles, he could often be found in prayer, and reading the Chant with perfect and passionate voice to whomever wanted to speak of the love of Andraste.

The middle days

It wasn't as much noticeable, as he would suddenly spend all day working on one task until it was done, and then do it all over again. One day it was training the troops. Another day would be spent completely in prayer. The next, all the paperwork. After that, he put everything together in the armory so it was bright, perfect and beautiful.

The last few days.

For the last few days of his illness, James is not found in his office. He is not found in the armory, and he is not found in the courtyard. He is found, almost prostrate, in front of the statue of Andraste, a fever keeping him awake and his body tinged blue, as he softly muttered the Chant, as his Lady's feet.

"Yes, of course I am." Norrington snorted softly, "I have gone across all of Thedas with worse wounds than a mild fever, Skadi. Honestly ... you're just over reacting about it."

He rolls his eyes. "If I go, will you leave me be."

[iceblade]

"Just because you have doesn't mean you should. Have a little common sense." Is this a templar thing? Skadi has to wonder, but decides not to ask in the interests of not derailing. "If I see you inside those infirmary doors with a proper healer? Aye, that'll do it. Let's be off, then."

"Oh pffft. Common sense is highly overrated around here." Which honestly sounds downright Bizarre coming from someone who would, on a normal day, be completely on Skadi's side about illnesses.

Another roll of the eyes, "Oh, very well. They'll just give me a healing draught and send me back to work, you know."

"..right, we'll see about that." Wasting no more words or time, Skadi grips his arm and tugs him onward. He can try to escape that grasp but since she's not the one losing her sanity, Skadi is still reasonably sure she can keep him in line.

"... where are we going again?" He paused for a moment, then frowned. "Right. The healer. We are going to a healer. You just said that. I am still focused."

Sigh. "Come along, it's not far. Thank the Lady for that." Skadi's starting to think she might linger there, anyway. "There's too many other people acting up like this. You sure it's not that lyrium you take?"

"...Which one? There are a few." James muttered, closing his eyes as he lets himself get dragged. "I take the required amount and only when necessary. I ... I know what happens to complete addicts."

[iceblade]

"The one in the central tower, that's the one I know best. I'm not dragging you through Darktown." Skadi makes a thoughtful grunt, as she pushes the door aside and the chill winter air greets him. "Aye, but doesn't it start to affect you anyway, the longer you take it? That's what I've heard people say."

"... there's a goddess in the central tower? Really??" He paused and wavers for a moment. "No, that's not surprising at all. We should have at least the Maker here, if not the Dalish agents of the gods and goddesses.

[iceblade]

"No, the infirmary in the central tower." Skadi shakes her head, sighing at herself for making a confused man even worse. "You know what, don't worry about it. Put yourself in the healers' hands and let them do the worrying, for once. You don't have to control anything right now."

"Oh. Where are your goddesses then? Andraste is all about me." He stated with a simple pious gleam. "I ... should put myself in the healing tent and not worry about everything that is going sideways right now? Including the earth? That does not seem like me."

[iceblade]

"The Lady of the Skies? That doesn't tell you all you need to know, about where she is?" Skadi flashes a smile, though the rest has her concerned. "You can't help the rest if you can't help yourself. Put yourself in your Andraste's hands, aye?"

"...so she is in the sky and not in the Skyhold. Isn't it awfully hard to keep looking up to worship? I would imagine you would get neck cramps ..."

He lurched again, before he nodded slowly. "You. Are not wrong."

[iceblade]

"Of course I'm not, I'm Avvar." There's a spark of teasing in her smile, though she checks his temperature with the back of her free hand a moment later. "Almost there, just hold yourself together a little longer. And if you want to know about the Lady when you've a clearer mind, I guess I can share a little."

"... that still does explain much, I must say." He is burning to the touch, but not so high that he's completely useless. He is getting there though.

"But I can go back to the infirmary after this, yes?"

[iceblade]

"The armory, you mean? That depends on what the healers have to say, but I'm betting they'll make you rest. It'll still be there when you're better, I promise." The central tower looms before them and it's with relief that she brings them up to the first set of doors.

"Isn't that what I said?" He sways for a moment, a frown coming over his face. "What did I say, anyways? I am not entirely certain ...anymore."

[iceblade]

Skadi just sighs. "Don't worry about it, we're almost there. The only thing you need to know is that it's time to let someone else take the reins. You could stand to sleep, too."

"Yes, sleep would be good. I am not sure when I have last slept. It's just - there's so much to do." He almost turns just then to head off to do some of that. "...I have paperwork to keep up on ..."

[iceblade]

Skadi grasps him firmly, her voice hardening. "Hang paperwork, it's not worth your life. Last time I checked, the Inquisition's not about working people to their deaths. Come on, we're almost there."

"... yes I suppose not. Yes. Infirmary." He sighed again, as he moved with her once more. "I would like to sleep. And not die."
