No, I am lost
My wounded heart
Resides back home in
Pieces strewn about
The graveyard of my lost love
For only...

The Road between Kirkwall and anyplace at all is hard and muddy by turns, this time of year, melted by sun and unexpected balmy wind, frozen again each night into ruts and fissures, as is the nature of roads in winters. The road too, is fraught with danger, the sides of the path lined with opportunities for those with less scruples than most-- and the forests, known to beasts and magic and the Dalish themselves, are not safer, for the unwary traveler. Times are lean, in this stretch of the year, and what generosity there is has stretched with the weeks until it's leaner still.
That's the road Sorrel has to walk, there and back again.
But on the other end, whether to Kirkwall or away from it, there burns a warm fire, a hearth with friendly faces, and family, of one sort or another.

"Maybe just... at least to the door?" He doesn't want to attack Beleth, put her on the defensive, but just the same-- Sorrel is terrified of approaching it all alone. And Adasse did just promise to stay with him, "If. If something happens that... If something happens, then, I'll stay with you?"
no subject
"To the door, then. And ... I'll wait down the hall while you talk with Coco. Moral support, all that." He leaned in to kiss Sorrel's forehead again. "You stay with me whenever, sweetheart. I've got your back."
no subject
"Okay. Okay, I can do this," He says, speaking almost more to Coco than to Adasse-- or is he? When he looks up again, he's certainly not giving Adasse a nug kind of look, "Ah. You know, this probably hasn't been... your idea of a perfect reunion."
There is very little, it seems, he can't deftly ruin, these days.
"...But, you could give me a 'welcome back' kiss. If you want."
no subject
Of course. That look. Makes his mind momentarily seize. How does Sorrel do that with his eyes? Adasse is positive it's some kind of Dalish Keeper magic.
"I had some different ideas ... " He drawled, and that drawl turned into a bright smile, as he leaned forward, "But hey, got it in one. They all start the same way."
He cupped Sorrel's cheek again, but this time his lips brushed against Sorrel's. Gentle, tasting lightly and slowly.

Things progressed happily from there, gentle, like the slow, silent opening of a flower. He couldn't forget the clan, nor Beleth, nor all his grief, but just for those few minutes Sorrel didn't let fear sit on his tongue, bitter and frightening. He simply leaned and lost himself a little, in mindless, comforting touch.
"...Oh, I love you," He whispered, when there was room for words again, "And I missed you so much."
no subject
He exhaled, inhaled deep, when their mouths finally parted. "...I missed you so much it hurt." He paused, then cleared his throat. "And, ah, if you do stay with me I'll have to move. Some stuff."
Crooked smile, "I love you so much I sort of went off the deep end, y'see."
no subject
Both hands cupping his face now, concern displaced from himself onto his lover, Sorrel trusts Coco's balance without concern.
"What am I gonna do with you? I can't leave you alone for a week before something happens."
no subject
Coco is fine. In fact, he might decide to balance on Sorrel's head before this is all done.
"Oh it was just a little larceny, love. Nothing to get in a tizzy about." A pause, "...maybe a lot of larceny."
no subject
As if that could ever be true. But Sorrel sobers again, smile fading, and for a moment he wavers and it looks as if the enormity of the situation will ambush him again. He takes a deep, deep breath and, as if by pure stubbornness, he pushes back into the joke.
"Let's ah-- Let's go see Bel. And then I'll be the judge of whether or not you're in trouble."
no subject
"I've got you, Sorrel. Let's go."
no subject
And as distractions went, it was pretty good: it got him as far as Beleth's door without collapsing. There, he hesitates again, but only a moment, then pushes through both his own trepidation, and the intimidating door. And inside is... Dark. There's no one in the office, or the ensuite, or the bed.
"It's empty," He tells Adasse, opening the door again. This is all becoming a bit much, "She's... not here. I-- Should I use the crystal?"
He doesn't want to. What a miserable welcome, that way; this should be done in person, isn't that right? Sorrel sighs, running a worried hand through his hair, mussing it terribly. It ought to be illegal to be this tired and overwrought all at once.
no subject
He stood at the door, letting Sorrel look inside. He frowned for a moment, before he snapped his fingers, "She might have gone to go get the new rifters.... and ... " He gave Sorrel a long look.
"How about you get some rest first? You've got to be exhausted, and this can wait until tomorrow."
no subject
"That's a perfect idea," He mumbled, then let up when he realized that their mutual pillar of nugness had inadvertently become their squashed-pancake of nugness. Watch where you're hugging, Sorrel, "Let's go see how much trouble you're supposedly not in."
no subject
"Just enough for you to fuss, I think." Fingers wrapped around him, as they moved away from Beleth's office, and to the stairs, towards Adasse's room.
no subject
"Holy...Creators beyond the Veil. Adasse, what happened?"
no subject
"...A ...crime ... spree?" He stated, before adding quickly, "No one in the Inquisition."

There were silk cloaks and thick brocade ones piled in a corner next to a short stack of slim oak boxes, polished and shining. Velvet bedcurtains and oil-paper sacks of who-knows-what leaning against a set of copper kettles and-- a very fancy-looking chair. How had he stolen a nobleman's chair? And why? A few weeks without Sorrel, and Adasse had turned the little apartment into a dragon's hoard.
Marveling at the fact that even underneath what he can see is undoubtedly more, Sorrel makes a decision: that none of it matters.
"...You really are a Ferelden, you know that?" he turns back to Adasse and the grin is already sneaking in, love and hilarity shining in his eyes, "The minute I leave, you panic like a dog. And make a mess."
no subject
"Is that so? Well, you should be so lucky." He leaned in to whisper in Sorrel's ear, "Dogs are remarkably faithful to their beloved owners."
no subject
"I..." Sorrel trailed away, then simple leaned back against him, eyes closed, and feeling the weight return. He was safe and warm and suffused with simple wants. For touch, for Adasse's gentle reassurances, for the softness of a bed, and a place where he needn't startle at every sound. Where he could be, like some miracle made real, only himself. Unguarded.
"...I prefer nugs," He said finally, the joke weak and faltering. It was all he could manage, to lean his temple against Adasse's and simply breathe for a moment, "I'm so tired, ma'nehn."
no subject
On his own shoulder, Coco chittered and nuzzled Sorrel. Adasse held him tight, before saying quietly, "Then how about we go to bed, love? I can't promise it'll be better in the morning -- but I'll still be here."
no subject
No, much easier indeed to sag slowly against Adasse, letting him take more of Sorrel's weight. He could bear up under it, Sorrel know, with those strong arms. Adasse kissed him and he shivered again, distracted, willingly pulled from his brooding.
"If there is there a bed, under all this," He managed a smile, an actual, honest smile, though it wasn't a strong one, "Or are we going to sleep on top like dragons?"
no subject
"We could, but I promise you, tiaras are not as soft as they look." He snuck in one more kiss, before guiding Sorrel to a mostly clear corner of the bed, while he started to muck through the items he'd carelessly dropped on one half. There was an Adasse-sized space, covered in a velvet cloak and one of his old blankets, but the rest was indeed, covered in lucre.
no subject
He was too tired, even for himself. The robes, the dirty footwrappings, all of it, on the floor with his pack, and who cared what happened to the rest? Sorrel moved to help Adasse push aside the heaps of treasure and glittering tiaras as if they were no more important than junk. The moment there was enough space, he crawled into it and lay down, groaning as if the concept of rest caused him pain. In reality it was just... relief, pure relief to lay down, finally, to let go.
"Oh gods. I could sleep for a year," He opens his eyes again, finds Adasse despite the jeweled crust of ill-gotten wealth surrounding his little nest, "Join me?"
no subject
"I thought you would never ask." He stated simply, as he kissed Sorrel's shoulder. "Get some sleep love. I've got you."
no subject
"...I love you," He says, quietly, but without thought, as if the words had been impossible to hold back. Sorrel closed his eyes and simply evels in the warmth, and notices no change at all between waking and the easy sideways slide into the Fade.
