Prompts are in comments so I only get notifs once.
When he walks he still uses a cane, but at least he knows the general layout of the places he visits often. As they move, he listens to her and taps the ground with the cane.
"Simple to follow so far. I imagine there are more complicated rules about the manner the ball can be moved down the field?"
"Yeah. You get four attempts to make it ten yards, but if it looks like you're not gonna make it on the fourth, you kick the ball away for the other team to catch and run down the field as far as they can, and where they get stopped is where their turn on offense starts. Here we are." She doesn't know if that's necessary to say as they get to the benches, but she decides to be helpful anyway as she takes a seat, still ready to divulge more amazing football facts.
"So there's a quarterback. He gets given the ball and can either throw it down field to a team mate, or pass it off to one who runs through the defense's line. And the goal for the defense is to tackle the guy with the ball to keep them from moving down field and scoring. Still with me?"
He is grateful when she gives him verbal clues. He lets out an 'ah' and gives her a grateful smile as he feels his way to the bench. He sits and listens to her.
"The quarterback sounds as if he is a vital member of the team."
"Oh, he totally is. It's also why he's usually the biggest target, so his team has to protect him. Anyway, let's say you get a touchdown. That's worth six points, but then you get to kick a field goal to try and get an extra point. And there are four quarters. At the end, whoever has the most points wins. There's a lot of rules about how you're allowed to tackle someone and special circumstances where you can get two or three points, but those are the basics."
Tessa wouldn't call herself an expert, even though she watches every year. She tends to forget some of the rules until the season starts anew and she remembers them. But that isn't something she'll get to enjoy watching anymore, even if she did end up home.
"Unfortunately, my world has been at war for generations. I'm afraid that doesn't lend itself to many forms of entertainment. Most of our feats of strength come down to training for the battlefield. The Kingsglaive were especially highly regarded."
"Oh, that sucks. I'm sorry. But, uh, the Kingsglaive sounds cool? Like it's a really fancy name." Tessa is well aware she sounds lame, but she's doing her best to steer the conversation away from depressing home world stuff.
"That's right. The crown's most elite bodyguards. They even have a bit of the royal family's magic." Ignis doesn't seem too depressed to talk about his home. If anything he seems calm and comfortable.
"Magic. Right." They've discussed this before briefly over the crystals. Tessa still can't say she's comfortable around the whole magic thing, but so many around the base are that she doesn't want to be that loser kid on the playground that everyone shuns because their mom won't let them play past 5pm. In other words, she needs to play it cool.
"So how's that work? Like, how do they get that bit of magic?"
"It is said The Crystal was a gift from the gods," he explained after a moment. "We touched on that before, I believe. The royal family has a connection to the Crystal, and those loyal to them can gain access to that power."
"Oh, wow. That sounds like something out of a story. Like, the crystal knows who's loyal to them and everything? That's really cool." Tessa tilts her head in thought. "Do you have fancy ceremonies n' at? Seems like with kings and magic you'd have cool ceremonies."
