that she winds up on the other side of d'artagnan, with him in between her and the horse, is entirely coincidence. ❱
Oh, the water is not at all my problem. I grew up in a library overlooking the ocean, water is lovely. The smell of raw fish in the sun is not, ❰ she says, smiling, and looks over at d'artagnan as they walk. ❱ I'm curious about this Paris. And about you! We never had a chance to get to know each other properly in the Sunless Lands, I want to know who you were before you made it here.
❰ and then, belatedly: ❱
Oh, yes, I am thirsty! Are you? There are a few pubs I know of in Lowtown, though I haven't been to them.

I am. After you, Mademoiselle. Shall we?
[ He offers her his arm, and keeps his other hand firmly on the horse's reins. ]
I was, and remain, a soldier to the king of France. He is not here to direct me, so I must do as honour dictates, and that is to help these people as much as I can. Parts of this city remind me of Paris. [ Not the good parts of either place, unfortunately. ] But Paris is bigger, and inland, not on an island. I wish I could show it to you, though if I did, they would be more curious about you than anything else. There are no elves in my world. Having met you, I find that a great shame.
