Who doesn't want a Mabari?
[The cool air and the rain that had come about with it wasn't entirely unpleasant, but still Kylo was growing tired of constantly training when he risked getting soaked through at any minute by rain. Today he finds himself wandering by the kennel master's stables. The sound of excited, barking, puppies filled his ears as he stops to approach. He recognized them as being the same as Padawan, though smaller with stubby legs and scrunched eyes.
One of them in particular had already grown attached to him and the snacks he had in one fist, barking shrilly for more any time he tried to deny it. When he tried moving on, the pup had decided to follow him before he could get away, it's little legs bounding after him and black fur sticking up as he tripped and fell on his face more than a few times.]
Go back.
[The pup didn't move, head tilting in confusion at the command. Instead he moved closer, sniffing Kylo's boots and running his feet up his leg while crying to be picked up. Take me with you, it seemed the creature wanted to say, as if he could talk. The pup wasn't taking no for an answer even as he stopped every so often to shoo him back to the kennel master. He looks around, as if asking someone else to take the little dog away.]
Burning the midnight oil
[Later in the day, as the rain continued to beat against the windows, Kylo can be found in the library, A book on the table before him and a squirming Mabari in his lap, a little snout peeking up from beneath the table every so often to look for treats. Kylo absently scratched the top of his head while turning patches every so often.]
'Of all the dog breeds that the Fereldans have produced, none are so highly regarded or so widely famed as the Mabari. Justly renowned, the Mabari are intelligent war hounds fully capable of understanding speech and interpreting complex commands.' Hmm.
[He looks down at the dog in his lap, staring up at him out of curiosity.]
Closed to Rey
[The two of them were spending a moment together in meditation, eyes closed and legs crossed, as he tries to focus on the Force moving in and out of the residents of the Gallows. Caedus - as his new Mabari companion was now called - was having trouble getting the memo, shoving his nose under Kylo's arm in an attempt to get attention and moving on to Rey to whine at her when that didn't work.]
Knew I should have asked the kennel master to take him back.
[He mumbles, answered by a disgruntled bark from the pup who shoved himself against Rey more firmly. Sadly, Kylo was stuck with him. As much as he knew that and as impatient as the dog's need for attention made him, he still found him strangely comforting.]
Wildcard
[ooc: hit me up if you want your own prompt]

no subject
[Which would be embarrassing because he does not do babies or puppies. He's amazed he's gotten this comfortable with Rey, but then she's a different situation on her own.]
He'll learn. I think he likes Padawan.
no subject
I think he likes you, too.
[ She teases him lightly, leaning her shoulder into his as they walk. She's pleased that a mabari has chosen him, because they are considered noble animals by Fereldens. She's become quite attached, as well. ]
no subject
[He smiled a bit, his gaze dropping to Rey leaning against him as they walked. They actually looked like a couple, their two mabari trotting along after them while they walked together.]
He hasn't chewed anything important yet.
[He had definitely weaseled his way into his heart, though he wouldn't admit it.]

[ Rey says with some amusement, looking back at the dogs trotting along behind them. Then she leans a little closer to him, wrapping her free hand around his arm too. It's a little bit awkward to keep her gait matched with his, but the less she thinks about it the more comfortable walking like this seems. ]
Just make sure he can't reach your lightsaber.
no subject
Would he try to chew on it? That would be painful.
[He knows he has no clue how pets work, but so far he's kept him alive.]
How old was Padawan when you took her in for Obi-Wan? Was she young like this?
no subject
[ So what she's saying here is don't leave your belt on the floor at any time, Ben. ]
She was an adult when I got her. She was fully grown when Obi-Wan had her, too. I haven't really had to train her she just sort of... knows what she's supposed to do.
no subject
[Please. Like he'd leave his lightsaber on the floor. He probably slept with it before Rey started sleeping next to him.]
So what you're saying is the kennel master absolutely tricked me.
[He shakes his head, a bit amused. Caedus was a good dog, though. Just needed training. He certainly wasn't ready to be a war hound.]

I think that once a mabari picks you, you're sort of stuck with it. They're discerning animals, if one decides it likes you, you shouldn't question it.

I've never had a pet before, that's all.
no subject
[ She raises her eyebrows, tilting her head a little at him. ]
I would have thought... I don't know, a pet would have been a good idea for a lonely little boy. Plus people are always keeping pets on Core planets. I've never had a pet before. There was a happabore that liked me, but that was about as close as I got.
no subject
[He didn't know that he even wanted one now, but he'd chosen him and Kylo had chosen a name for him already. He was actually getting attached to him.]
no subject
[ She squeezes her hand on his arm gently, giving him a small smile before glancing back at the dogs. Caedus seems to have mostly settled into trotting alongside Padawan, rather than trying to nip at her. She looks a lot happier for that. ]
no subject
I think it's more that he's good with me.
[He wasn't exactly known for patience. He lost his temper easily, but the pup seemed to take it in stride. He hadn't had him long but he had a good feeling about him, even if he didn't understand things like Mabari imprinting.]
no subject
[ Rey smiles fondly, leaning her head tentatively against Ben's shoulder, comfortable as they walked together. ]

[He'd seen how Padawan protected her when he came into her room, but the pup had been willing to trust him. He was glad he hadn't abused that trust yet. He knew that he and Rey shared similar feelings of loneliness and he hadn't asked her what it had been like for her, being the only one from their home for a while.]
She still does. I'm no substitute for that.
[He glances down at her while they walk and his thumb draws circles over the back of her hand when he focuses ahead again. Having her lean on him brought a warmth that made his skin feel flush. Anywhere she touched him did at one time or another but this moment brought on an almost rosy tinted emotion to it. He'd never thought before how perfect they were for one another until now.]
no subject
You take care of me too, though. Not a substitute, just... backup. And there's definitely things you can do that Padawan can't.
[ As much as Padawan had tried, Rey's worst nightmares just hadn't been able to pass peacefully without Ben's help. ]
