[Open] Now Her Hand Is Raised

WHO: James Norrington and You
WHAT: James is completing his assignment for Forces, OR hey how effective is a broken bottle in a fight anyways?
WHEN: Mid-Justinian
WHERE: The Gallows - Training Grounds
NOTES: Warnings for possible violence? James is seriously trying out everything.

It's not unlike James Norrington to be out in the training yard, working on his sword and shield work. It is, after all, what won him such acclaim at the Tourney, and he practices daily to keep up those 'world-renowned' skills up to snuff.

Today, though ... today is a different sort of day. Today, James has got the equivalent of a pile of junk before him, and is, if you can believe it, using it to attack the dummies on the far end. Right now he's got a broken wine bottle and seeing just how far he could stick it into the dummy's artery. There was a chain, some sticks, some sand ... he really was just trying out everything as a weapon. Including a frying pan.

Maker knew he was going to get on-lookers, but for as ridiculous as the scene was, he was taking it completely seriously.

Inessa has been training with Garahel, but James' change from routine soon gets her attention. After feeling as thought they've trained sufficiently, she pauses to have a better look at what he's doing. The frying pan provokes a raised eyebrow.

"Your new battle weapon of choice? Though I have to say, after all that it seems to be overkill."

Garahel happily barks back, though he sniffs at the frying pan first because it might have the echo of something tasty on it. Inessa tilts her head and echoes the smirk, looking it over. "Oh, I've seen their use. There was a cook at Weisshaupt who was terrifyingly proficient. Those who disrespected her did not do so for long, I can promise you that."

Glancing to his other improvised weapons, she crosses her arms. "What else has stood out, so far?"

James Norrington is not the worst human Iorveth's met. He isn't a racist twat, at least, and he's an extremely capable warrior - their team in the Tourney proved that well enough. Not only for his individual skill, but in being willing to listen to the rest of his team, give up the personal glory to work tactics and defend the others. That is what makes a successful unit more than talent alone.

This, however. This is just fucking weird. Iorveth stands not far from Norrington and his nonsense, arms crossed over his chest, watching this fuckery like he's waiting for it to make sense, before eventually speaking up. My dude, what the fuck.

"I suppose I ought to be glad you thought to bring more traditional weapons to the Grand Melee."

"And if you're threatened while cooking, it would be even more devastating heated." Inessa nods, then glances over to the chain. "Heavy...but even a mage with little body strength could energize it. I could demonstrate, if you wish."

She nods as Garahel plops down by Interceptor, giving him a lick. Hi, friend. "In that case, something that's light or can be used at range would be ideal. Most mages aren't suited for front-line combat, after all, so they need something that won't weigh them down or force them to use muscles they don't have. That said, I remember a fellow Warden mage who made extremely good use of a candelabra."

"Uh.... are you feeling all right?" Carlos asks with a certain level of concern over the sight he's looking at right now.

"Yes? Is that... a pan?" he asks, still uncertain.

Inessa nods thoughtfully. "Both are possibilities; many among the Inquisition have learned to wield grenades, after all. We have to practice our aim with spells; physical objects is not that different a practice, more or less. Anything that could be used as an attachment for a staff might be helpful, as well."
hearher: (sounds right)

Carlos considers him a moment longer before shrugging in a 'sure why not' sort of way and moving closer. "Hand over the pan," he comments as he holds out his hand to take it.
circleprodigy: (facepalm)

"Blades, or something like, yes." Inessa smiles a little as Garahel nuzzles his canine friend. "But if that happens, I would want to be sure such mages are well-instructed on how to best wield them. I've seen too many injuries from those new to staff-blades, accidentally self-inflicted."
circleprodigy: (more arm-crossing)

Inessa crosses her arms, thoughtful. "There are enough who might not, I believe. If it would be easier to run it alongside a mage, I could try to donate my time depending on its schedule. I'm assisting Christine in the Red Lyrium project now, but that doesn't occupy every waking moment."
circleprodigy: (seeking)

"They do, I agree. Learning how to improvise and adapt are important lessons for anyone, mage or not. Even those who think they will never see combat cannot be certain of that. None of us have that luxury."

Inessa shakes her head and glances over to the rest of his pile. "What does Interceptor think about your attempts? Does he approve of any?" One can never go wrong with trusting the instincts of a mabari, after all.
circleprodigy: (at ease)

"Oh, is that true? Do you need a game of tug of war, Interceptor?" Garahel perks up and barks, delighted by this idea. Can they, please??
