The prospect of death didn't bother Ariadne too much. She knew that everyone's days were numbered. And she felt secure in the knowledge that there was something that lay beyond death.
But the thought of dying a meaningless death? That part scared her.

"They thought She was..." He struggled, slightly, to find the right word. "...divine. Sent by Andraste. I don't know about that. The only light I saw was Hers. Now people are starting to see what they thought might not be true. Before, it didn't matter. Now it does."
And that had all been a bit rambling, hadn't it? "I don't really understand," he confessed.

It always made them sound more foolish, in the end.
"I'm not divine," she told him. "Not even a little bit. If that helps you any."

As for everyone else... "It's going to be hard for the others. Most of the things that fall out of Rifts are demons."
no subject
And that was back home.
"I don't know what that word means here," she said carefully.

"They don't mean to become demons. They want to see the world, but coming through makes them wrong. They touch it, and it twists them."
no subject
But the thought of it leaving a mark on her soul...
"...changes us."
no subject
Not a demon like that, anyway.
"The words mean different things." Demon and demon. "The sound is the same, but the songs... they don't touch one another." It was hard to tell things about her, to hear the scraps of the world that trailed behind her. But it wasn't impossible. "You were born what you are. That's the first difference."

Which, she supposed, wasn't bad. Maybe she was due for a taste of her own medicine.
But she couldn't help but fear for her life. At least a little.
Protectively, she hugged her braid. "I'm not...what I was born as, exactly. Not any more."

Unsurprisingly, it wasn't entirely familiar. Human, in a way. But with a smell of ozone that wasn't natural to humanoid bodies.
"Which are you?" she asked.

She nodded slightly, unfazed and unafraid. "Well, you're helping me," she pointed out. "So if that's what it takes to be a spirit, I guess that's what you are."
no subject
"Is there something else you're wondering about? I could try to explain."

But, of course, if she didn't ask questions, how was she going to learn?
"What's a Circle?" she asked. She'd heard the word thrown around enough to know it was important.
no subject
"Many of the mages here came from Circles."
no subject
One more reason to be thankful, she supposed, that she had no magic.

Violence was never the answer. Unless it was the only option left to you.

"It's dangerous to be a mage. Some of them cause trouble. So all of them were watched. Except the apostates."
no subject
Humanoids went to extremes to make examples of people who were different.
"What's an apostate?"

After all, he'd offered.
"Who's Solas?"

One might think Cole was trying to remind -- or convince -- himself.

"I see," she said gently.
