There are times in one's life where one simply wants to blot out a few of the worse hours of their lives. For fewer, it is days, perhaps even weeks. Very few want to blot out about four months worth of time from their memory, but after returning, barely, from Tevinter?

James Norrington, Knight Commander and 'fed-up with being calm, polite, and gritting his teeth', had decided to get absolutely and totally shit-faced. He was also going to get shit-faced in the best brothel in all of Kirkwall, but honestly it was because their wine cellar was second to none, and all of the ... employees of the establishment were more than willing to get 'paid' for their time with a glass of wine and a good chess game.

He didn't just disappear from his office. He wasn't off to have a bender and never be seen again. There was a note tacked to the door of his quarters, and his office, in the same bold print so anyone could find him if they really desired to.

It said simply, Off to share the Maker's love at the Blooming Rose. Blessing the fallen with holy wine. Please join if you are looking to save the sinners and enjoy a good Red from Antiva. - J. Norrington

He was saving them, persay. They wouldn't have to sell their bodies for at least an hour or two while playing chess with James. It totally counted as an act of charity from a member of the Templar Order. If he got to drink wine along with it, well, he was just blessing himself.

He needed a lot of damned blessings.

He'd also be riding a griffon. Merrill has very specific desires.

Humans have funny ideas when it comes to... well, a lot of things. Affection is up there. People might talk, but it's just talk - Merrill has missed her friend, and that's what matters.

"Will you be able to pull them as well, now? Since you're in one yourself?"

He'd rather like to ride a griffon. Perhaps that could be part of his Desire Demon.

Considering the fact that he is, in fact, as drunk as drunk can be -- talk is not something he is going to be worried about in particular. Especially since this might be as close as he's gotten to another person here since the night began.

"...do you mean will I be able to get a prostitute or a Templar? Because the answer for this evening is neither. This is my free time, and I am indulging in two things I enjoy. Wine and chess, nothing more."

"A Templar! But not this evening, no. In the future."

Merrill isn't sure she's making sense - or rather, she isn't sure she's making enough sense for a drunken James Norrington. It doesn't particularly matter, though; the conversation isn't that important. It's just good to be back, really.

Although...

"Would you pull a prostitute on another evening? I know some very lovely ones."

"In the future, probably, but not for sexual favors. Mostly to keep those who made the promise not to have sexual favours ... keep that one."

He kept one arm around her, before he tipped his head to the side.

"Ah. No. I prefer not to pay for my ... carnal pleasures. As delightful as all these people are."

"Oh- why do they promise that? Does the Maker not- but then how would He get more follower... I'm confused."

Is a brothel the best place to have this conversation? Yes, clearly.

"What if it was free? Some of them would probably do it for free. You're very attractive, after all."

Continuing to miss the point? Always.

"They don't have to - it is to show a sign of devotion to the Maker. Gives them a closer connection. Of course if they are here and breaking that vow ... the Maker will make His displeasure known." Right, this was an odd conversation to be having in the middle of the room, arms wrapped around Merrill. He shifted them, so he had one arm around her shoulders and she had one arm around his waist, and they were moving back to his table.

Where the wine continued to live.

"I sincerely doubt that - " Because honestly he is not going to believe he is That Attractive - "In either case, I would prefer Not to enjoy that with a stranger."

"Not having sex gives them a closer connection to the Maker? I would think that being able to remain devout while still having other connections and 'distractions' around would mean more." It's said as James directs her back to his table, mused into the air; a few of the prostitutes seem to agree, but none of them interrupt the pair.

She's rather happily cuddled up to his side, but one hand does reach out to grab the bottle of wine so she can read the label. Merrill knows nothing about wines, but she likes the reading.

"That makes sense! I mean, it's fun and all, but... it's nice to have fun with people you care about, no matter what that fun is."

"You would think so, but it is not so in the eyes of the Chantry." James stated simply, "It is just not in our belief system."

He chuckles as she looks at his bottle, before he asks her wryly, "Would you like a glass?" He will not answer the last part, because it is a little too close to home right now.

Merrill could argue about that- but there's wine. Merrill nods, giggling slightly. "I mean, if you don't mind! I just like to know about it- it seems like it's an art, wine-making."

"Wine making is absolutely an art. I have determined that in my Templar dotage, I am going to take what remains of my family's fortunes and open a winery, just for that reason." You know, if he doesn't die horribly in this war, or in battle against demons or the Really Bad Blood Mages. That sort of thing.

See, he's being positive!

"Have you made wine before?"

Merrill thinks he might be being positive because of the wine he's consumed, but hey, she'll take what she can get.
