Background: Riftwatch is in Val Royeaux to make it very clear that they support the Orlesian military and Exalted March and definitely do not condone desertion or harbor deserters. This is necessary because someone in Riftwatch (Bastien) helped someone in Orlais (Vincent Suchet) who was harboring deserters, including, nearly, the son of the Baron and Baronness Auvray. They take a lot of pride in their family's history of valiant military feats and were on the verge of being horribly embarrassed by the whole ordeal before they managed to turn it around and paint it as an insurrectionist conspiracy that tried and failed to lure their son away from his duty. Enough circumstantial connections to Riftwatch came up during Suchet's quick and dramatic trial that the rumor mill went a little wild, so now everyone is here to tame it!

Except Bastien, who's here to put his fake printer name back on and tell some solid lies to the Chancellor's office when they ask him what the deal is, to ensure there's no real non-gossip trouble, and then to have a little bit of a meltdown. 👉👉

Adeleisa d'Arlesans may not be someone who cares very much about what is impolite, so her grin should probably not be taken as permission to go around asking everyone in Orlais what they think about their fathers.

But she says, "I like him better at a distance," with an arched eyebrow that suggests she knows she's being led somewhere and has decided to allow it.

"My feelings are the same," Darras, as Giannis, says to her. And smiles. "Or they are these days, at least. I learned so much from my father. I am grateful to him for everything that he has given me, and every lesson that he has taught me, and I will return to his mansion and visit him, but I could not live there, still. I had to go out into the world, to make my own way. This is Riftwatch now. Young, yes, but grown, and ready to find its way. Grateful, deeply grateful, to the Inquisition for all that it has given us. Do not think otherwise."

"And Riftwatch continues to work closely with the Inquisition, of course," adds Eloise Allard, sensibly dressed in the fashion of upper middle class housewives from the Free Marches--her accent and firey red hair both say Starkhaven--and carrying a large covered basket over one arm. Certainly not the subject of Adelesia's usual work but perhaps one of its audience demographics.

"My husband and many others from Starkhaven have joined Prince Sebastian in the Divine's army, so I'm grateful to Riftwatch for doing what it can to support their fight. And for everyone like Prince Giannis who has sacrificed so much to come help," she adds, flashing a slightly shy smile at the Antivan.
