I. The Gallows Courtyard

He hasn't been kicked out yet, so Mado has to make the most of the time he has left. He's not overtly panhandling, but he is busking, with a floppy old hat put out to collect coins while he alternates between doing acrobatic feats and magic tricks, taking breaks to simply shake a tambourine and sing beautiful, plaintive Antivan love songs.
He plays to passersby, strolling alongside them and, at times, offering them opportunities to join.

"A song for you, ser!" he calls, and Maker have mercy on the victim.

II. Lowtown

Hightown being far out of his budget when it comes to entertainment, Mado can be found in some of the slummier taverns, offering services similar to his street busking but with hope of receiving drinks rather than money.

He sits on a table, crooning a drinking song while several of the local boozehounds sway and slosh their mugs around, at least one of them weeping with passion.

His eye is easily caught by a face either familiar or interesting, and it isn't long before he slips over with a bow and a brilliant smile.

III. The Ferry

Periodically, a little brown-and-white spotted dog will hop onto the ferry right behind someone, sitting close and casually looking around as if it belongs to them.
It's the very same dog that been seen wandering around the Gallows, begging and doing tricks for scraps, but the owner, if it has one, has not yet been identified.

Eyes widening in horror, Edgard lunges towards the dog and straddles him holding him in place with his legs. He sticks his hand into the dog's mouth trying to clear the airway and gives him some hard thumps on the back.

"Come on, buddy!" He says to the dog. Edgard's eyes burn a little, but he blinks them away.

A litany of horrible noises later, the bone is finally hocked up, along with half the meat and ... what appears to be part of a pastry, as the dog's gag reflex becomes a full vomit.

With a whine of dismay, it pauses to pant for a moment, mouth foaming.

[muckspout]

Edgard is relieved that the dog is ok. He moves himself and the dog away from the vomit. (Listen, Edgard may be dirty, but vomit is a step too far.) He rubs the dog on both sides with both hands.

"Poor doggie," He croons. "Désolé. I didn't mean to make you sick."

[lumelume]

The rubbing feels good, but what he could really use is a drink of water-- and a proper one, not lapped from a fountain.
With one last poke of his nose against Edgard's hand, the dog lopes off, making no indication that he wants to be followed.

[muckspout]

Edgard doesn't speak dog and wouldn't listen if he did. He stands up and follows the dog at a brisk pace.

"Where you going?" He calls.

[lumelume]

The dog does not answer. It's out of sight.

[muckspout]

Edgard wants to make sure the dog is alright, so he walks around the ferry trying to find him.

“Here doggie!” He yells loudly and then gets a glare from someone so merely whistles.

[lumelume]

When he rounds the corner into another part of the docks, Edgard comes face to face with a man in a yellow coat who appears to be massaging his throat and clearing it repeatedly, and who looks up to quickly lock eyes with him with the startled air of a small animal hoping it won't be noticed.

Finally, someone to ask!

“Monsieur, have you seen a dog—-“ Edgard notices his reaction. “Are you alright?”

He hasn’t put two and two together. Why would anyone assume a man is a dog?

[lumelume]

The only thing Mado hates more than people yelling at him is lying, and there's significant potential for one or the other occurring in the next minute or so. He stands stock still.

"...no," he says, as casually as he can muster for someone who feels incredible amounts of guilt for engaging in deceit, "...and I'm fine, thanks for asking!"
At this he lights up, hoping it will successfully divert the conversation.

Edgard is a little taken aback at the enthusiasm.

“You’re welcome?” He peeks behind the man looking for the dog. “I don’t know where it could’ve gone.” He tells him. “He’s not my dog, but he was sick and...” He trails off, worried.

But, then shrugs. “I’m Edgard, by the way.”

[lumelume]

"Oh dear," Mado says, doing his best impression of Strained, but then perks right back up.

"Amador," he chirps, bouncing forward to take Edgard's hand in both of his. "It's a pleasure to meet you!"

[muckspout]

Edgard blinks down at the hands holding his. This man is very friendly, but seems not at all concerned with the dog. Something feels a little off, but Edgard decides to roll with it. He puts his other hand over Amador’s two and shakes it vigorously.

“Would you help me look for the dog? I want to make sure it’s alright.”

[lumelume]

Though he smiles from ear to ear, there's an odd vacancy behind Amador's eyes, as though he's trying to think of something but hasn't quite reached it yet.

"Of course!"

[muckspout]

Edgard points vaguely behind them.

"I think it might have gone that way. Maybe? I don't know, where would you go if you were a dog?"

[lumelume]

"Certainly nowhere that anyone could find me, if I did not want to be found," Mado cheerfully replies, "perhaps the dog will return later!"

[muckspout]

Edgard nods, considering this.

“You might be right. Some animals hide when they’re healing. Do you have much experience with animals, monsieur?”

[lumelume]

"Not really!" answered cheerfully, mindlessly. "I'm sure you'll find your friend again soon!"

Just don't give it chicken again, or they'll have words.

[muckspout]

Edgard seems distracted away from looking for the dog. This man is a little bit weird, but interesting.

"I think I'll wait here a while and see." He sits down on a nearby crate. "Where does your expertise lie then, if not animals?" He asks.

[lumelume]

"Music and revelry!" He gives the tambourine hanging off his hip a smack to make it jingle.

[muckspout]

Edgard jumps a little at the tambourine jingle.

“Alright, music. What kind of revelry?”

[lumelume]

"Any kind!"

He throws up his arms as if that illustrates his point.

"What kind do you prefer?"

[muckspout]

Edgard thinks carefully before he responds.

“I prefer...mischief. Preferably the secret kind. You know, harmless but fun.”

He gives Mado a once over.

“You don’t seem like the secret type though with that—-“ He gestures to the tambourine.

[lumelume]

"I can be secret! What kind of secret mischief?"

His eyes are wide and rapt.

[muckspout]

Edgard gives Mado an appraising look.

"You seem the opposite of secret to me. But, I'll take your word for it. How do you feel and what is your knowledge about pranks?"
