OPEN LOG: A beach party.

WHO: Everyone.
WHAT: A beach party.
WHEN: On a very hot day. At some point during the month.
WHERE: A beach just outside of Kirkwall.
NOTES: It is a beach party.

During a particularly hot and oppressive week in Kingsway, the Diplomacy division announces it will be diverting some of its funds to organize a party on a nearby beach. Kirkwallers are invited as well - a relationship-building sort of effort - but the party is mostly intended for morale boosting for Riftwatch itself.

The party features the following:

• Transportation to this lovely beach from the Gallows and from Kirkwall.


• Sunbathing and swimming in skimpy (or non-skimpy, if you're a fuckin square) bathing suits.


• Live music and dancing.


• Delectable grilled meats (and some vegetables, if you're a fuckin square).


• Rum drinks served in hollowed-out fruits.


• A sandcastle-building competition.


• A swim race.


• A few fun little sailboats bobbing around out on the water.

Does all that sound too wholesome? Great! There's also a cave system in the cliffs next to the beach. These little grottos are full of nooks and crannies and are perfect for a bit of sinful action after dark; in one cavern, there'll be some gambling games where some of Kirkwall's citizens are losing money; in another, you're likely to run into people making out.

Have fun! Soak up sun! Don't get in trouble! Or do, whatever, it's a beach party.

I didn’t work for anyone.

[He grins at Byerly. It may be semantics, but it’s true. He shrugs and takes another swig.]

I was a thief with other thieves. It was fun.

[There, truth. Some of it anyway.]

[ After a brief show of outraged struggle at being manhandled by a dirty petticoat thief, Alexandrie has settled herself in Byerly's lap to watch the game with her eyes half-closed in contentment, head tucked under his chin. Like totally platonic friends do.

To Edgard, with curiosity made idle by comfort: ]

Did you work together and share spoils? Have a shared code of conduct?

[muckspout]

[Edgard frowns, he thought his turn was over.]

We worked together.

[As he takes another drink, his frown turns into a sly grin.]

Have you taken a turn at the game, Mademoiselle?

Madame.

[ An absent automatic correction which may or may not lead to certain assumptions, given the current state of things.

And then Alexandrie actually processes the question and considers its possible outcomes. One: she'll be a poor sport at her own game, two: she'll have to tell the truth, or three: she'll have to get up. On the whole she doesn't like any of them. She's opening her mouth to admit she hasn't when she hears the telltale jingle-jangle of a myriad of bracelets, which means— ]

[ A singsong call over Byerly's shoulder (and, unfortunately for him, right next to his ear,) in an attempt to lure the woman to come and join them before she's asked anything, ]

Come play with us!

[ She doesn't know enough about Edgard to know if a pretty shiny elf will draw his attention, but it'll give her at least half a chance to fend off the inevitable for a little longer. ]

[ Athessa was just meandering by, without aim, so she's easily diverted. Meanders over, her sundry jewelry heralding her languid approach.

She's got a smoldering joint in hand, Riftwatch-issue sunglasses on her face, and parks her hand on her hip as she surveys the group. ]

What're ya playing?

[muckspout]

[Edgard smarts a little at the correction, but brushes it off as he turns to Athessa]

Truth or dare. It’s your turn. Which one?

[sulahnan]

Dare, of course. [ Said without needing to think about it, and in the moment before bringing the joint to her lips. ]

[muckspout]

[With equal lack of hesitation]

I dare you to give me a compliment. And make it sincere.

[He laughs and folds his arms over his chest.]

[sulahnan]

[ She doesn't react, unless exhaling smoke into the air counts as a reaction. ]

You're quite skilled with a longbow.

[ Easy. Too easy. Aren't dares supposed to be challenging? ]

[muckspout]

[with an extremely exaggerated formal air]

Why, Athessa! You shouldn’t have! You’re making me blush!

[Edgard laughs uproariously]

[heirring]

[From where she's flattened back to the ground, taking full advantage of the extra space on the blanket afforded by Alexandrie's assault on Mr. Rutyer:]

Oh, how wonderful. You must inform Mr. Ellis; he's been looking for a teacher.

[thereneverwas]

[A fond smile. How pleasant this is.]

[sulahnan]

[ Athessa sets herself down, legs outstretched and crossed at the ankle. ]

Barrow. Truth or dare?

[thereneverwas]

You know what? Dare.

[He's in the big leagues now.]

[sulahnan]

I dare you to dump a bucket of water over Edgard's head.

[ Like it ain't no thang. ]

[thereneverwas]

[He perks right up.]

Don't mind if I do!

[muckspout]

[Edgard stands up and quickly and discreetly attempts to leave the scene. He even drops his flask.]

[thereneverwas]

[Barrow also stands up, but in search of a bucket.]

Oh no no, [he says in gentle admonishment to Edgard, with the assumption that someone will restrain him,]

let me return the favor.

[muckspout]

[Edgard continues to keep moving, but yells back]

WE HAD A TRUCE!

[sulahnan]

Not with me you didn't!

[ Not that she's making any moves to restrain him. ]

[muckspout]

[Edgard picks up the pace to a run. Fuck party games.]

[thereneverwas]

[Having acquired a bucket but not filled it yet, Barrow straightens again to point dramatically at Edgard.]

COWARD!

[His voice booms.]
