OPEN LOG: A beach party.

WHO: Everyone.
WHAT: A beach party.
WHEN: On a very hot day. At some point during the month.
WHERE: A beach just outside of Kirkwall.
NOTES: It is a beach party.

During a particularly hot and oppressive week in Kingsway, the Diplomacy division announces it will be diverting some of its funds to organize a party on a nearby beach. Kirkwallers are invited as well - a relationship-building sort of effort - but the party is mostly intended for morale boosting for Riftwatch itself.

The party features the following:

• Transportation to this lovely beach from the Gallows and from Kirkwall.


• Sunbathing and swimming in skimpy (or non-skimpy, if you're a fuckin square) bathing suits.


• Live music and dancing.


• Delectable grilled meats (and some vegetables, if you're a fuckin square).


• Rum drinks served in hollowed-out fruits.


• A sandcastle-building competition.


• A swim race.


• A few fun little sailboats bobbing around out on the water.

Does all that sound too wholesome? Great! There's also a cave system in the cliffs next to the beach. These little grottos are full of nooks and crannies and are perfect for a bit of sinful action after dark; in one cavern, there'll be some gambling games where some of Kirkwall's citizens are losing money; in another, you're likely to run into people making out.

Have fun! Soak up sun! Don't get in trouble! Or do, whatever, it's a beach party.

[ Hmm, yes, there is a bit going unsaid there. A subject change seems very much in order, and he rolls with it smoothly. ]

The land was called Rune. My city in particular, Aluthsa. I did a fair bit of travel, if it's stories of a distant land that you're after.

I just rather like listening to people talk about the places they call home.

[ That much, though said in the same light tone, is a bit too honest to be in the spirit of flirting. ]

I find it interesting, how people choose to describe it. Not that stories of distant lands from a completely different world than my own aren't perfectly enticing on their own.

[ It's a light tone, but it does put him in mind of the brief summary of Athessa he'd been given from Byerly. The clan, and such. It's enough to gave him pause for a thoughtful second, and give an answer more truthful than he might usually consider.

Carefully: ] Home isn't anything I look back on fondly. In fact, I've looking forward to making something new here.

[sulahnan]

Oh.

[ Vanadi may be the only Rifter she can name who doesn't have some drive to go back where they came from. ]

Something new, like...permanent?

[highborn]

That was the hope.

[ He cocks his head, considering. ]

I have the suspicion that I died there, and came here. Perhaps even as a result of dying. That does sound rather permanent, doesn't it?

[sulahnan]

I guess it does, yeah. Any idea what you fancy making?

[highborn]

No ... not yet.

[ He reaches a hand to trace a finger gently along Athessa's jaw, from pointed ear to chin, and smiles. ]

I'm in no rush. I figured I might just enjoy myself a while first.

[sulahnan]

[ That light touch may as well be electric, sending a little ripple of sensation down her neck. Okay, then.

Athessa leans in to kiss him. ]

[highborn]

[ Ah, there it is. He'd smile, but his lips are busy. His hand shifts to cradle her face, thumb rested at her cheek while his fingers have the pleasure of curling through her hair. His kiss and touch both are gentle, freely offering the lead if that's what she'd like to have. ]

[sulahnan]

[ What she wants in this moment is more. She sees his gentleness and raises him a degree of enthusiasm and insistence, pulling him closer by the front of his shirt.

And when she pulls away, she makes sure to graze his bottom lip with her teeth. ]

[highborn]

[ An old hand at matching energy, Vanadi is happy to play into that enthusiasm. His fingers tighten in her hair, curling about the back of her neck, and he wears a smile that borders on enchanted as she draws back. This beach trip is feeling pretty well worth it. ]

Why, yes, that's just what I meant, how did you know?

[sulahnan]

I'm pretty good at reading people, [ is a nice answer, but ] but mostly I just felt like enjoying myself.

How nice that we have that in common. When can I see you fight?

[highborn]

[ It's an unanticipated swerve. He blinks, and leaves the smile on his face unattended. ]

I ... why should you want to?

[sulahnan]

Because I like to see what I'm working with.

[ She's not shy about this at all. ]

[highborn]

[ He sighs an unhappy sigh, mainly because he already knows this is something he'll make himself do. After a kiss like that, there's little he wouldn't do. He runs a distracted hand through his hair. ]

Mm. Who, then?

[sulahnan]

Me, naturally.

[highborn]

[ Well. He supposes that's better than some innocent bystander, but he makes a face regardless. Maybe it will go from fight to something sexier quickly, and spare him. ]

Very well. And the when?

[sulahnan]

At your leisure. Once we're back at the Gallows, if you like.

[highborn]

[ He heaves another sigh, just in case the first hadn’t made his take on all this clear, but nods. ]

When we’re back, then. I hope you’ll enjoy my inevitable death at your hands.

[sulahnan]

[ She smiles and leans in again, her lips brushing against his as she speaks. ]

We both will.

[highborn]

[ This particular trick gets him every time, any time. Unpleasant thoughts of any upcoming spars melt away. He tips his head and leans forward, missing her lips with his only just as they brush across her cheek, toward an ear.

Low, into that ear: ] Knowing you, I think, will be very bad for my health.
