This isn't the reaction she expects. Frowning a little, she takes a small step forward and sniffs--still from a distance that most people wouldn't be able to catch the scent rising from his cup. "What does it taste like?"

"Brighter than plain coffee," he explains, reflexively holding out the cup nearer so she can smell it better. Which is kind of weird, but, okay. "The flavor's cleaner, a little sharper."

She doesn't lean in, though she does sniff again. "It smells only like coffee. Do you taste the lemon?"

"Sort of." He considers how to put this, then, "The point isn't to taste the lemon in the coffee, just to improve the coffee's taste."
