"Well I know that much," Barrow answers amiably, "you can't, least as far as I'm aware. Or you can, but you won't like it." He holds up his left hand and wiggles its fingers to indicate where the shard would be, if he had one.

"Raw deal, though. Hopefully you don't find us too intolerable."

"Mmm. I forgot about that."

He considers his own hand briefly, sunlight glinting off the shard. He'd tried wearing gloves pretty religiously when he first got here, but has been more lax about it since murderhaus.

"No, I can't say I do." He says, and smiles faintly. "Like I said, no danger of that."

"Hopefully it stays that way." Barrow sips from his coffee again. "I've been here about a year now, give or take. Sometimes everyone gets on like pigs in the mud, others..."

He pauses to consider his words.

"...well, not so much. But I like to think we're all still working toward the same thing." Sip. "Whatever that is."

He's probably joking.

Luckily, he's not the first person to express this kind of sentiment to Holden.

"Whatever that is," he agrees with some humor. "Some healthy disagreement isn't a bad thing."

A chuckle, and Barrow raises his coffee cup to clink with Holden's.

"To healthy disagreement, in spades."

Well, he can toast to that, good humored.
