[ Here are a few places one can find Erik within the Gallows on a regular basis:

The Library: Reading a little bit of everything, actually but focusing on recent history reports, whatever passes for science fiction, books about the Fade, and books about religion. Oh and a book or two on elven culture. Shh.

He's here at all sorts of hours but mostly between 11pm and 5am, apparently not sleeping very well otherwise. Why else be in a library at prime sleeping time?

The Smithy: Erik is fascinated by this area and mostly writes notes about whatever process he's allowed to observe here. Leave his little engineering heart alone about it! (Or don't, actually. Bothering him is preferable to the narration.)

The Herb Garden: Because he's curious if he recognizes any plants from home. Spoilers: he doesn't, but he keeps coming back anyway, usually in the early afternoon.

Training Area: Sparring with swords and spears, because there's no excuse not to stay in shape. Also there's a war on? So. Come gawk at the man. It'll be fun.

Anywhere else: He explores the entire Gallows during his quarantine and then does it again afterward, so consider this an open invitation to wildcard me.

[ Erik discovers the market district in Lowtown and spends an inordinate amount of time there, mostly browsing, but occasionally buying small items. A scarf at one point. Close to the middle of the month he is clearly looking for something specific - jewelry, it would seem. He picks up bracelets, necklaces, earrings, but doesn't seem to settle on anything for a while.

You can also find him in the occasional tavern. He hates drinking alone; join him? ]

[ Erik left a note at Athessa's. Now he just has to wait for them to show up. So he's chilling in the herb garden, again, this time at sunset. ]

Edgard grins, shakes his head in wonder and then claps Erik on the shoulder.

"Sounds like a plan. Thank you! You're alright."

It's a good plan and not a scrap of judgment. Edgard likes this guy!

"Sometimes," Erik sort of argues, but sort of not; either way, he heads over to the vendor to suss out what's what with the cost of the tray.

Sort of expectedly, the cost he's suggested is quite above and beyond any pay he's received this far and Erik shakes his head softly, before turning and walking away. Whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen and he's not going to interfere until he's sure that it's safe.

Edgard is not the most subtle of people, in the past the sneaky bits were left up to Rayan, but he saw him do it enough times that he knows the basics.

He walks forward and then appears to wildly slip on the pavement and land directly onto the table, knocking multiple things onto the ground with a clatter. He apologizes profusely to the man and grabs several items to help set everything back up. The man snaps at him, grabbing wares out of Edgard's hands. Edgard flees the scene, tray under his shirt.

He walks hastily towards Erik and throws an arm around his shoulder. "Walk with me. Has he noticed it's gone?"

There is no polite way to tell someone they need a bath and while Erik isn't polite in general he sees no reason to start a fight with Edgard over hygiene. Still, there's a little nosewrinkle at the arm over his shoulders but then they're moving fast enough that while Erik says:

Give it a second.

[ There's a yell, but no one immediately gives chase. There's too much of a mess to clear up first, and Erik doubts that the vendor is that invested in something they were using to show off other stuff in the first place.

(Watch him be wrong and this become a problem for Erik in the near future, just watch.) ]

Back to the island, yeah?

Yes, let's go! Walk quickly, but casually.

[Edgard readjusts the tray under his shirt and clanks a little. He grits his teeth and hisses a little. They make it to the ferry with no one following. Once there, he lowers his voice to Erik.]

I owe you one. Thank you for your help. This solved a big problem for me. Are you with Riftwatch then?

[ Walking quickly but casually is something Erik is good at, turns out. No one's followed them, and he'll leave the area well enough alone for a few days until things smooth over or his face is forgotten in the passage of a short amount of time. ]

Mhm, [ he nods, ] just got here last month. [ He's got on the gloves that they gave him to block the glow from the shard in his hand. ] I was assuming you too.

[He nods back and smiles.]

Been with Riftwatch nearly half a year. With Forces. Welcome. It's a little [He wobbles his hand.] but mostly alright.

[He leans forward.] If anyone asks, maybe don't mention that I had to steal this to get it back. I mean, I don't think you would, its just...I'm trying to make something right.

Yeah, that's the vibe I've been gettin', but ain't nothin' perfect. I joined up with Diplomacy, myself. [ Forces sounds like exactly what Erik used to do, and since this is all about turning his (new) life around, well. Look at him, being helpful and shit.

He raises his eyebrows as Edgard leans in but then shakes his head. ]

Man ain't nobody gonna ask me shit, and I ain't no snitch. You did what you had to do, and if someone hears about it, ain't gonna be from me.

[Edgard whoofs out a relieved breath and half smiles at Erik.
He claps him on the shoulder.]

Need a favor sometime just let me know. Not always easy being new here.

[At least, it wasn't for Edgard. Given Erik is in diplomacy, he likely has a few skills that Edgard does not.]

I will. No worries, man, and I'll let you know if I need anything, 'fo sho'.

[ Erik has managed to make some friends (like this one, completely unexpectedly) but he's not about to turn down being owed a favor at any point. ]
